I am 36yo, 18 months pp, still breastfeeding (twice a day). Delivered baby boy by vacuum, with heavy perineum 2 degree tear on the right side - stitches were almost up to buttcheak and . I have a bladder prolapse that wasn’t assessed since I was 8month pp. My GP dismissed me everytime I said there is something odd about my perineum and prolapse. I used to do pelvic exercises every day until September 2025 when suddenly I felt my body felt tired after doing them. There was a wee bump suddenly beside my belly button, I gained weight and my bladder prolapse got worse. GP said all normal and ‘not the worst prolapse she has seen as some women had it worse’. That I should change my diet, start exercising and maybe start running or using a bike.

Fast forward to this Wednesday when while at work I felt sudden pain in my belly and back, went to toilet and my underwear was spotted with blood. I peed, it was bloody everywhere and when I wiped there was crimson red blood on the toilet paper. I thought period was finally back.

On Wednesday, the first day of bleeding, I noticed a significant amount of blood. Pads were wet but not completely soaked, and the blood varied from dark red to fresh red. Bleeding occurred both while peeing and in between urinations. I needed to wipe multiple times after urination to remove visible blood. I also noticed some spotting on my underwear. I experienced cramping and back pain, similar to period cramps. There was no foul smell and no clots.

On Thursday, the bleeding reduced significantly. Blood was mostly noticed during or after urination, requiring fewer wipes. Pads remained mostly clean, with only thin dried lines or small spots of blood. Blood was fresh red (carmine/cerise), appeared in small amounts, and stopped quickly. Cramping was milder than the first day. There were no clots, no foul odor, and no blood in my urine. On Friday and Saturday, the bleeding continued to reduce. Blood was heavily visible after peeing and wiping, often as a thin line or small spot on the pad. The second wipe generally showed less blood than the first. Cramping was minimal, and no other symptoms like fever, discharge, or pain were present. The bleeding pattern appears to be stabilizing and is no longer heavy.

I am just asking if someone had similar experience. I am going to walk in go clinic tomorrow as up until today I thought I have period but today I feel like there is something wrong.

I am panicking and I don’t know what to think.

  • You need that checked, go tomorrow as planned

Thanks! I am stressing and overthinking. I just need someone to talk to about it atm.

  • Sounds like the recent bleeding could be kidney related. Possibly a kidney stone. I only say that because a coworker of mine had the same symptoms with one. Definitely get all of it checked out because none of it is normal.

Thank you. Will ask them about this too.

  • I don't have any experience with that, but reading your story I just wanted to say I see a great private Spanish gynecologist at ES clinic on the Dublin city center, it's expensive but it was really worth it with my issues. I wouldn't trust your GP, doesn't look like this person care about your health at all. I hate the way women health is treated in this country.

Thank you 🙏I will see what gyno clinic can I attend in Dublin. I really don’t care about the money at this point - I just want to be sure what’s wrong and how to heal.

  • I'm so sorry you're experiencing this and panicking, it sounds very difficult. It's easy to say "don't panic" but I know realistically it's not easy to do. My best advice is try a meditation or something else that you know will calm you down and allow your body to relax, try and forget about it until tomorrow.

When that appointment comes go and kick up an absolute fuss. Do not let them tell you it's your period returning and it's normal for it to be heavy. Healthcare for women here is so bad people should be going to jail. Insist on the prolapse and stitches being investigated, and the lump in your stomach. Be ready to leave with that doctor hating you and be your most assertive self. I've never had this experience myself so I don't know what checks they will do. My period returned at 5 weeks even though I was breastfeeding. But trust your gut and advocate for yourself, nobody else is going to. And fuck that GP, she has some neck on her making comments like that to you! I would find another one asap.

I have a walk-in clinic appointment today. Won’t be going to my go, as I don’t feel she would approach this with care or understanding. Whenever I first mentioned it to her that I have no periods for long time, her answer was that some women wait longer some shorter for period to get back. I am no gp, so I trusted her with that. Thank you for your help and advice ❤️ Women’s health is awfully treated in this country.
