I have PCOS and while I know facial hair is normal, it makes me really self-conscious and I’m struggling to manage it.
My beard is ginger (lol, classic Ireland) so laser isn’t an option. I tried electrolysis once but got totally overwhelmed. The timeline, appointment frequency, long-term plan, then no follow-up slots available. It felt like I needed a full strategy mapped weeks ahead and I just bailed.
I’m trying again this year and would love to hear real experiences:
How long did it take?
Did you batch book appointments?
Are you happy with the results?
As a former beautician I can say that unfortunately it rarely works. It’s pretty outdated and most salons don’t do it correctly, with PCOS new hair growth can be an issue too so permanent removal is difficult. Unfortunately you may be better just getting threading / waxing done regularly
Thanks for letting me know! Can you get a wax without having it grow out though?
I go to Advanced Electrolysis in Ranelagh
I love it.
One word of warning though..wax fully before you start. I learned that the hard way.
Takes time but its the best thing I ever did
Thanks! That's actually where I had my first appointment! Why do you need to wax? I was told to let it grow out a bit so the could have a look?
I started with my (body - not facial) hair fully grown out and not all the hair would have been it the right phase thats all. So my first few clearances I class as irrelevant thats all x
I started it in August 2024 with weekly 30 minute appointments that eventually went to fortnightly and are now every month.
It's expensive and painful but I am seeing results now. The weekly appointments were very annoying but I was working for myself at the time so I could be flexible with the days, and I used to block book maybe three or four at a time.
I use over the counter numbing cream on my upper lip that makes the pain a little more bearable!
Thanks for replying! Yeah is a lot more painful than I thought it would be!
