Referred for IVF, how long does it take to start process at the referred fertility clinic?

  • Depending on the clinic you’re referred to it can take about 6 weeks for your first appointment, treatment starts soon after this and mostly depends on where you’re at in your cycle.

    Thanks that’s quicker than I thought ☺️

    Best of luck 🤞🏻

  • Hi, I'm 39yo with hx of miscarriages and my partner 45. We were referred by gp in August 2024, got questionnaire in feb'25, consultation in June, waiting for hycosy 4 months(I was about to pay for it but then they found a place for me) as no availability and going through letrozole gonasi even though our chances are low. It's really inefficient even though my gp said it would take up to 4months max. We've lost so much time and it's very frustrating as everytime we hear 'it won't be long' and that was the only reason we waited... Also no geneting testing available even as a top up in ivf so.. We've got to the stage where despite waiting so long we are opting for paying for ivf abroad as I want to reduce chances of another miscarriage. If you have plenty of time it's OK to wait but they just have one system for all, forever waiting. No flexibility. If I knew all of this I'd never waste my time for it

I’m sorry to hear that was your experience, sounds brutal. Thanks for sharing.

We have time thankfully, we got the ball rolling early enough as we had suspected issues and this isn’t our first rodeo.

Clarifying from my post: I’ve already been through the HSE hub/all tests are complete and referred for IVF now. Just wondering how long it takes to get setup with a clinic from this point if anyone knows.
