Hello, I will be going to work in Ireland in coupple of weeks. I got an idea if it would be possible to ask around in harbour some fisheing boats and ask if i could join them, what do you think? Thanks in advance for any response

  • Not sure it's possible for insurance reasons.

  • You'd be better off booking a fishing charter. Regular working fisherman wouldn't bring you on for insurance reasons.

  • Fishing boats wouldn’t even take local lads they see fishing on the pier so I doubt they’ll take someone they don’t know, as previous comment stated. Insurance reasons and the fact that someone “ new “ on the boat would be in the way,

If you want to “get out on the water” try renting a small boat or getting a kayak

  • You do get season fishing tours in places like howth. Might be your best bet.

  • you can go with hire boat , one person will be expensive but if you ask skipper they may ad you to the group if have enough spaces available , depend off the skiper and area they charge 50-80 per person edit at this time off the year due to weather not many charters do trips , till spring time

  • What is it you want to do, if it's to fish from their boat it's a non starter because those boats are not a place to be standing around with a rod in your hand when they're at work. Also they will be out quite far, meaning rod fishing isn't going to work well as it's in very deep water and often very rough conditions.

Most charter angling boats will be finished until later in the spring so you'll not have much luck there unfortunately. What is it you're looking to catch? There are some winter species available from the shore in January...

  • Apply for a job full time and you may get a berth. Fishing is poor at the moment so don’t expect too much wages.
