have to agree , the truck is at a fuel island at a truck stop. Bet the driver went to take a piss or grab a bite and some fucking asshat greedy for internet point pulled it and filmed it.
na this is highly dependant on the truck stop and time of day , you can see they zoom out the island is empty
if the fuel island is busy in the middle of the day sure park cause you can , if its the middle of the night and the fuel island is empty there is nothing wrong with this additionally, good luck finding a safe place to park while you go piss after dark in many truck stops.
Theft has nothing to do with it, The issue is that the shutoff relies on the venturi effect to turn off, something as simple as someone dropping the pump on the ground can mean that once your tank is full, it won't turn off. You'll just be pumping fuel down the side of the tank or vehicle and onto the ground.
It hits -50 here, everyone stays at their vehicles because it's the sensible thing to do. Not to mention, illegal in many places to leave it unattended.
Buy a decent flashlight. First thing to check after hooking up is the fifth wheel. Do it every time and this should never happen. Easier to skip it though apparently
My dad was a commercial driver! That’s one thing I remembered, he said if the fifth wheel disconnects, you can basically kiss your driving career goodbye in most companies. So he always checked.
Yup this is what I've always done too. Especially in the cold, those two metal surfaces can stick together so tight that sometimes you can do a tug test and your truck isn't going to go anywhere, it'll feel just like you're locked in. Had a trainer show me that 15 years ago and I had it happen to me one time. Got out to look and sure enough it wasn't even close to being locked in, even though it felt as solid as can be during that tug.
Also, you can prevent this by setting the trailer brake, using the truck’s engine to put tension on the coupling, and then set the truck’s brake. Nobody’s pulling that release.
My dad ALWAYS checks his king pin before he keeps rolling after being stopped. More than once he has come back and it has been pulled. Assholes are everywhere
Yeah, I too like to film random trucks right at the moment something bad is about to happen especially pointing the camera where the event will happen.
It also only takes 2 seconds to check the lock lever. You're right there anyway hooking up air and electrics. Failures must happen occasionally but I got 35 years with a CDL and it never has to me.
Most drivers I deal with cannot read or speak english, don't wear even the most basic safety equipment, and coudlnt tell you anything about TDG regulations if their lives depended on it.
I’ve seen the cross bar snap when trying to crank a loaded trailer so might need a rotator for this one to pick it back up. That’s besides the damage to the landing gear and possibly the nose. Sigh.
Was this filmed by the person who released the 5th wheel?
Right? Anyone else who knew what is about to happen would be laying on the horn…
The guy filming for sure released the 5th wheel.

easily could cost a driver his job.
Taking a leak while blocking the lane/pump? Everyone is an asshole in that scenario.

If you knew how long it takes to fill those tanks, you would know that you have time to take a piss and more.
Leaving the tank filling unattended is a bad idea.
??? Who tf leaves when filling a tank.
Not all of us live in major cities, some of us live with more civilized people and don't worry about car theft.

Meh, I'll take that risk. You probably don't need to fill gas when its -30 outside.
It hits -50 here, everyone stays at their vehicles because it's the sensible thing to do. Not to mention, illegal in many places to leave it unattended.
Ahh, you’re the asshole slowing me down when I used to have a CDL (dropped it when I got an implanted defibrillator). Fill, pull up. Then pee.
Buy a decent flashlight. First thing to check after hooking up is the fifth wheel. Do it every time and this should never happen. Easier to skip it though apparently
I do this every single time. Rain, shine, or snow. It doesn't matter.
My dad was a commercial driver! That’s one thing I remembered, he said if the fifth wheel disconnects, you can basically kiss your driving career goodbye in most companies. So he always checked.
I'll give it a little pull test before getting out of the cab. And then still do a visual check.
Yup this is what I've always done too. but did you say that? If you didn't say it, it could move.
Tug test is a must
Tug test is part of your Class 5 here in NZ
Also, you can prevent this by setting the trailer brake, using the truck’s engine to put tension on the coupling, and then set the truck’s brake. Nobody’s pulling that release.
This video gets more and more zoomed in each time I see it. Soon all we'll be able to see is the pin.
Its final form will just be a single pixel.
Back up to trailer hear click step one Tug test. Step two Get out and check if 5th wheel is locked step 3 Safe measure tug test again step 4
Why does it feel like the people videoing pulled his kingpin release and then set over there to film?
Because there are zero alternate reasons to be filming this.
kingpin release is on the opposite side
Well I did not know that I've only been driving these things for 36 years.
My dad ALWAYS checks his king pin before he keeps rolling after being stopped. More than once he has come back and it has been pulled. Assholes are everywhere
Whoever filmed this is an asshole.

You’d only record this if you knew it was about to happen, as in you pulled the pin… that’s fucked up.
/r/abruptchaos
This is evil. Wtf is wrong with society
No excuse for that. It takes 2 seconds to put the truck in 1st gear and tug on that fifth wheel to see if it's locked.
Tug test isn’t always accurate. Gotta get under the trailer and verify.
Can confirm, had failure of fifth wheel, tug cleared, jaws cleared
Yes sir, usually happens in turns from what I’ve witnessed.
Yuuup. Made it halfway across the lot, did a turn, bang. Thankfully i had witnesses that saw me do the tug and jaw checks
It also only takes 2 seconds to check the lock lever. You're right there anyway hooking up air and electrics. Failures must happen occasionally but I got 35 years with a CDL and it never has to me.
So if your load legs are still up, as at a fuel island, that’s when you dump the trailer on the ground?
I agree a 100% you better check your 5th wheel every time no matter what. And Buy a decent flash light
Most drivers I deal with cannot read or speak english, don't wear even the most basic safety equipment, and coudlnt tell you anything about TDG regulations if their lives depended on it.
Tug test, check fifth. Gonna be strong as hell cranking that bitch back up to height.
I’ve seen the cross bar snap when trying to crank a loaded trailer so might need a rotator for this one to pick it back up. That’s besides the damage to the landing gear and possibly the nose. Sigh.
Someone forgot to do a tug test
r/videosthatendtoosoon
Stupid
The person filming probably pulled the kingpin and wanted to see the outcome 🤣😂
Aint no way he could see that it wasn’t hitched in and decided to start filming randomly.
