It also considers dates before 1583 as ambiguous and requiring what amounts to an agreed standard for interpretation between the parties using it, which kind of defeats the point of a standard for that range.
Yeah, historical dates are a bit of a landmine, as the calendar system has changed so many times, and until the (relatively) modern era, had a hard time staying in sync with the real solar year.
