I read this book in two days because I couldn’t put it down. Betty is a 1960s coming of age story about a girl who is part Cherokee and part white growing up in rural Appalachia.
The story is based on the real experiences of the authors mother and is filled with many traumatic moments. It’s explore themes of family, racism, magic realism, death, life and a childhood that is beautiful and complicated.
I don’t want to write too much because I don’t want to give it away but it is definitely worth reading.

Nice
I've been wanting to read this.
I so appreciate an accessible but beautifully-written book. Can't wait to read this one!
I loved this book. I adore a family epic and this story had it all. I remember as soon as I finished it thinking I couldn't wait to read it again.
Loved this one
I loved this book! One of the only books that has brought me to true tears. Beautiful storytelling!!
I love this book - What a story of perseverance. The author, Tiffany McDaniel, is one of those rare talents that can craft a most captivating tale. Simple, poignant, concise. I love her style.
Yes absolutely it was easy to read and very memorable.
All her books are great (and devastating!) Looking forward to her next one!
I actually have a copy of another one of her books called On the Savage Side I am also looking forward to reading it.
On the Savage Side is even better than Betty imho. I felt as if I knew the six women, and I unconsciously quoted them for weeks ("because she lives alone").
The Summer That Melted Everything is my fave of her 3
Thank you I will definitely check it out!
Sounds exactly like something I'd love to read. It looks like it won and was nominated for a lot of awards too. It's always good to see authors getting the recognition they deserve.
