Yeah, Benioff was the water park employee at the top of the slide. As someone else said, Weiss and Benioff had written a prior Sunny episode, the “Flowers for Charlie” one, so they were friendly with the Sunny guys.
D&D (both of them were in this episode) are solely responsible for GoT taking a horrible turn especially Season 8. They basically tried to rush the ending so they could go write for Star Wars even when GRRM was telling them (including HBO) we can get a few more seasons to properly wrap up the show.
It's kinda sad that people tend to forget the legitimately amazing season 1 to 4. No matter how it ended, those seasons remain the pinnacle of television.
I hate D&D too but I think there’s a little bit more nuance to the situation than solely blaming them for the disastrous last two seasons. Quite a few of the actors (Kit Harrington in particular) have since mentioned that fame + working on the show gave them a huge load of stress and mental health issues and barely had the mental strength to do another season, let alone a few more. Plus George had all the time in the world to finish the series but he didn’t. Again, I still think D&D did a spectacularly bad job but it seems like their job was a lot more harder than what was reported at the time.
Yeah I didn’t include the other aspects, namely GRRM giving them absolutely nothing other than the endings and leaving them to figure out how to get there on their own, I think even way before Season 8. So technically it is very much his fault too.
A lot of people dislike seasons 5-7, I actually enjoyed them, and enjoyed Season 8 until the Darkest Night episode or whatever it was when it all started to feel incredibly rushed
They got the “young adult working at a theme park” vibe spot on lol. The slide attendant on the Kiddie Twister saying “I don’t give a shit” when Dennis and Dee insist on going down the too-small slide, and then just kept sending kids down an obviously stuck slide is absolutely perfect as well.
