Trying to find a film from the 90s

Hi all I have this distinct memory of a film that I’ve never been able to locate, was about a man slowly going crazy, and I remember him killing the family dog with a pitchfork, the dogs name is as peanut I recall ! Any ideas ?

I think it’s the same film, but I can’t be sure. I remember him having nightmares and like messages being engraved in his skin.
