To make people feel better about Silksong not winning, remember that we got Best Action Game.
If I'm right, this is like the first ever award Hollow Knight or Team Cherry as a whole has gotten from the Game Awards. This is history we're talking about!
It may not be a major win, but it's still a win! (And besides, we all knew E33 was winning anyway from the start.)
Be glad Hornet is up there with the big shots, and was drawn beautifully by the official artists of the nominees.
"Not a major win" I mean "best action" out of every action game is a pretty big win
"Best Action/Adventure"
Because there is also a separate award for "Best Action".
Weird, i know.
Its the difference between 'best action/adventure game' and 'best action in a game'.
because pure Adventure game is dead, so the genre is generally Action/Adventure for games that you have to explore.
Dead until the next fromsoft Eldenring game probably
Silksong has become so incredibly popular that people has lost the scale of what happened. A game like Silksong winning over:
A Kojima game
Indiana Jones
Split fiction
Ghost of Yotei
Like, we are seeing here either big companies, people like Kojima that is an influence in the gaming industry and has already made games that have being a success in the game awards like MGS (I know Death Stranding is not that good for some people but I don’t know lol), split fiction that has interesting game mechanics and it totally fit that category.
This means Silksong is great and is big. It won outside of the indie category (it would have won indie if it wasn’t by E33 placed there). I don’t know why people is not realizing this. It won against some AAA video games. It won in a category that fits precisely what TC has been perfectioning: combat, exploration and adventure.
Maybe those other games aren’t that good for some people or whatever (I haven’t played them so I can’t say), but for me this is BIG and not a “minor” thing just because it’s specific.
Someone start an r/e33isnotanindiegame
It kind of is.
I think the bar is “not AAA”
It's half indie. Independently developed, NOT independently published. The game awards only cares about the former though
I think as a general rule, if industry awards are gonna be taken seriously, we need clearer standards that must be met to be an indie game.
Wow
Thats why AA exists. Multimillion dollar budget is barely that. And in no ways indie.
Le Salt
I’d argue the person who’s in another sub desperately trying to tear down another fan base as opposed to celebrating their own win (if whatever lame game they like won), is actually the salty one. What’s the old saying “living rent free”
NOWS YOUR CHANCE TO BE A [BIG SHOT]
On one hand.. yeah..
On the other hand. Silksong was the most wishlisted game on steam. Made by team Team cherry. The people who created HK. A classic game that was a insane success.
Silksong as A game was so legendary that it’s existence was treated as a myth. A game that would never come out. It took 7 years and it was so influential that it broke steam.
When you have this much hype. 1 award just doesn’t feel enough. Especially when E33 gets 9..
Why do people even care about the game awards? It's an ad for children that has to create drama like this to stay relevant. What cultural or subcultural weight does any of their awards carry, especially when the results are as laughable as this year?
