Funny thing is that scholars themselves also wrote novels. Such as 'Mrs. Xie's journey in South' and 'Dream of Cloud Nine' from Kim Man Joong, 'Biography of Hong Gil Dong' from Heo Kyun, 'Record about Castle of Sorrow' from Im Je and so on.
It happens sometimes. I know there are many original stories or fanfics published online that will not release the next chapter until someone pays for it through the author's Patreon or a similar platform.
Not too different from other sorts of street performers. Depends on the performer obviously, but occasionally if they draw a crowd but aren't getting donations they'll stall their performance until the money starts moving.
Is it possible to learn this power?
Not from confucian scholars.

Hello fellow OSP pfp haver
Oh man I can only imagine thw frustration at that last part.
Not gonna lie though, attending a public storytelling sessions actually sounds like it could be a lot of fun. And even be worth paying for.
Podcasts got you covered tbh.
Yeah true. But it would be nice to physically attend such an event as well.
There are quite a lot of those around, try searching ‘storytelling events’ and see if any pop up for your area!
Will do. Thanks!
Theater got you covered (both indoor and outdoor ones)
In late 18th century, one of those storyteller was murdered, for the culprit, an audience was so immersed in story...

Not sure how murdering the storyteller just before they reveal the continuation of the plot is going to help things.
That being said, great story, though it was pretty funny having to read the hanja side to maybe kind of understand it since I can't read Korean.

The funniest one I've ever seen was a furry porn reposter on Newgrounds who threatened to stop unless they were paid on every post they made.
Honestly, I really dislike it when those kinds of artists become greedy.
That's the funny thing, he wasn't even an artist. He just reposted other people's art and wanted money for it.
Wow, that is exponentially worse. Fuck that guy.
The fucking audacity of that man
....What a way to get mobbed within reason.
So that scene at the beginning of The Red Sleeves has basis after all
Nowadays we call this technique demo version, free trial, see more on patreon, battlepass, subcription,....
Except the storyteller it's not within physical reach nowadays.

You could probably do this on Twitch with HFY stories.
You can see remnants of this the way they publish manwhas.
Shamans used to sing songs and dance and most the songs had a story so this isn't a new practice for the most part. Except more profitable
This is still done today. Now it’s just in the form of audio books and fan reading videos.
I see nothing has changed in Korea whatsoever on this front.
This is so funny.
But why would a fan attack the storyteller while he was still talking?
