You know, it’s been too long, we need sky trumpets rn tbh

    parent
    64 points PentaOwl

Sky trumpets have been captured on video since 2005-2007.

Heard it myself twice. Thats how I found out it happens everywhere sporadically. There are some early vids on youtube out in nature that are downright eery

    parent root
    16 points cheestaysfly

See hearing it in a city is one thing because there are possible explanations, but if you're out in the middle of nowhere and hear that? That's when it gets scary to me.

    parent root
    18 points PentaOwl

It is incredibly surreal. The sound is so all encompassing and omnidirectional that you're kind of stuck looking up and around, expecting to see something, anything that would make sense for the scope and clarity. You see it in the videos too (listed some at the bottom of this comment). People grind to a halt, looking at eachother and the world with unease.

    parent root
    11 points Pleasant-Put5305

Had a ridiculous one, about 0845 in the morning on a normal weekday, north bank of the Thames at King William Street - sounded like a martian walking machine had stubbed it's toe, everyone was looking round like what the hell is that?? Vanished as quickly as it appeared.

    parent root
    9 points Impossible_Moose_783

    Yep. I remember

    parent root
    12 points Far-Comedian1294

    >Heard it myself twice.

Wow I thought it was complete nonsense. Like a viral video or something, a big prank. The videos were genuinely scary, terrifying.

    parent root
    21 points PentaOwl

Yeah I only went looking after hearing it. First time was on my own in 2007, small town at 4Am. Second time was in 2013, together with someone, during daytime in the mountains, about 40 miles out from the nearest village.

It was surreal and freaky both times. In 2007 at first I thought it must have been somekind of huge metal grating something, like mega-construction scraping metal on metal, sound carried by the wind or reverberating through the earths surface. Then it kept growing stronger, filling the sky and the scraping almost felt like it had a chorus effect. It lasted about 1/1.5 minutes, and I was fully creeped put by the end of it.

I searched the internet, but apart from very old textual descriptions on forums and some videos in eastern-European/Russian neighborhoods, there was little. People said it was an end-of-days sign or effects of HAARP (?).

When looking things up after the the second time in 2013, there were now several videos on the internet. Even got featured on some local news here and there in different countries.

There are three videos out there that are very similar to my experience. One from Alberta in Canada Recorded in 2012, between 00:35-01:10 and one from the Blackburn UK, from 2013 and one from Tammela Finland, recorded in 2012

    parent root
    10 points ReviloOkredaj

I experienced it in Denver in 2013. It’s pretty wild.

    parent root
    4 points cheestaysfly

    Those are so creepy!

    parent root
    3 points gingersusie

Wow that was really interesting, the first recording you posted evoked a strong emotional response in me. I actually had tears come to my eyes. I have no idea why.

    parent root
    1 points JunglePygmy

I remember that Alberta one, it’s a fake, the video was proven to be taken from another video and overlaid. (Read some of the comments on YouTube)

    parent root
    1 points PentaOwl

Thank you for clearing that up.

In searching for that comment I also found one from Bannfeld that I felt to be fake, with straight up percussion sounds.

Ill try to find that one back

Edit: it was Banff Canada. I don't believe this one: https://youtu.be/081FuoN8K40?si=-Xct5mE5ANNskTbR

    parent root

  • 41 points SmurfsAreTasty

I posted this a few days ago in r/unexplained. Its not the trains at all. I hear it and the trains are far from me. Im by Newport. Its strange af. It's always a little different. The tone changes and the rhythm isn't the same. Its like if it were a machine doing the same thing over and over, but randomly changes it's settings from time to time.

It comes from all over. it barely echos, but the sound is from just all around. There's no direction that it's coming from. There's just no pinpointing the area it would be in. Its the same volume even miles out of Cincinnati.

    Edit: grammer and schpellng

    parent
    9 points Plantiacaholic

Definitely not trains or construction, it’s coming from the sky somehow.

    parent root
    3 points duckncover_

What time of day do you hear it?

    parent root
    2 points SmurfsAreTasty

Any time. Day or night. It comes and then it stops. I even tried to see if it did it at the same times each day, but no. They are random in appearance and length. Definitely heard better at night without the city sounds.

    parent root
    3 points NoScene3141

YES... I'm in Delhi area.. and when I hear it and walk outside to identify the direction it's coming from... I CANT . it seems to be coming from every direction.. it's strange... I've been asking around for at least a couple months now to see if anyone else has heard it .. and NOBODY else has even noticed it UNTIL NOW when I seen this video, I only ever notice it at night after dark, and then it stops before the sun comes up so I just figured everyone else was sleeping and wouldn't notice but I'm a night owl and I hear it every night. it starts and then it will stop temporarily, and then start right back up again shortly after , and this goes on all night long-every night... I thought I was going crazy there for a minute

    parent root

Probably wind blowing through something making the noise. Ever seen videos of hurricanes playing buildings like a harmonica?

Stories like this one make the rounds every couple of years. We're all still here. If they meant the apocalypse was coming, it would be here already. Frankly, a lot of the stuff I see on this sub can be explained either by light tricks or wind making funny noises.

    parent root
    4 points usps_made_me_insane

Good theory. Does it track with higher winds?

    parent root
  • 17 points RedPandasUnite

I've heard this noise myself over a decade ago seeing 2 AM in Philly. It came from the sky. It lasted for about an hour. This is a common phenomenon happening all over the world.

    parent
    5 points AlbaneseGummies327

It certainly isn't common if the last time you heard the sound was over a decade ago.

  • 7 points Top-Hall6124

I had this same experience once. I had just moved into a 4-plex in midtown Sacramento. I went to bed around 2:00 am. All of a sudden I heard these same sounds, but accompanied by a high pitch drilling sound. I ran around my apartment looking for the source, as I thought my new neighbors would be pissed. At first, I thought it came from my wall. And for a while it seemed to be coming from my light switch in the bedroom. But then I went outside, and realized it was even louder there, and almost seemed to be emanating from beneath the sidewalk. Nobody else came outside though, and when I asked around the following day, nobody had heard what I was describing.

It’s HAARP. They’re beaming the ionosphere. These trumpet noises were common before they allegedly “shut down” the program. They didn’t shut it down, they just moved it elsewhere.

Start paying attention to the weather in the area about 48-72 hrs after hearing these noises. Usually there will be severe weather.

    parent root
  • 8 points GerthySchIongMeat

The honest answer? It’s our weakening magnetic field rapidly fluctuating. How do speakers work? By using magnets. Put an electrified-magnetic field around the atmosphere and you have a VERY large speaker.

    parent
    14 points Acrobatic-Echo-3460

Wouldn’t it be world wide instead of being isolated to a few city blocks? I mean just thinking out loud here.

    parent root
    6 points LonnieJaw748

Seems to me you’re typing quietly. Or maybe the sky trumpets are just too loud and I can’t hear you?

    parent root
    2 points GerthySchIongMeat

If the overarching area has a massive magnetic field anomaly then sure I guess the sound would expand vast distances.

I’d say there’s a lot we don’t understand about how much the magnetic field fluctuates on a minute scale. The inner core causes anomalies on the surface where we see compasses fail and even mystery spots that are barely 200 feet in width.

    parent root
    3 points Acrobatic-Echo-3460

I’m more referring to the phenomenon happing globally rather than once in a blue moon in small isolated areas. But yes I’m also questioning how far the sound would travel to.

    parent root
    2 points GerthySchIongMeat

Globally I think can certainly be accounted for by the magnetic field + earth’s core. A lot of ancient stories talk of sky trumpets as they approached times of great change.

    parent root
    6 points ShartlesAndJames

    but why only at night?

    parent root
    5 points ghost_jamm

It’s true that a speaker uses magnets but the magnets don’t directly create the sound. It works by moving a magnet against a membrane to push air around, creating sound waves. Nothing even remotely analogous happens with our magnetic field. There’s no mechanism for the magnetic field to create a sound wave. It’s like noting that hydroelectric power uses water to create energy and concluding that a lake creates electricity.

It is made by air leaks from double layer ionized air balls. A mass of air charged with electric charge is surrounded by air charged with the opposite charge sign . The air around compress the air inside and if there is a leak it could make weird noises.

    It is explained here:

We used to call that “the hum” around 2010

The sky trumpet phenomenon is a bit different than "the hum."

Also it’s almost January and guy is walking around in a sweater. Not a snowflake anywhere, to me that’s a lil more strange than the mystery noise.

Cincinnati isn’t really that cold tho. The average high never gets below 40f in any month. December’s average is like 45f. They get maybe 20 inches of snow a year but they have years where they get less than 10.

Not really sure what your point was.

TIL it’s only cold if there are snowflakes present.

I live in the Midwest and yesterday it was almost 40° and most of our snow was gone. There's a blizzard warning right now and the wind chill is -12.

When I hear that sound my brain instantly recognizes it as some kind of machine. I know perception is subjective but there's nothing strange about it in my opinion.

    Numbers 10:9
