Idaho health officials report increase in illness from drinking raw milk
  • 376 points Look_turtles

If only there was a way to make raw milk safer. Maybe heated it up to kill the bacteria or something.

    parent
    114 points MattGdr

    Crazy talk.

    parent root
    52 points Meme-Botto9001

    Yeah completely nuts.

    HERETIC!

    parent root

Out to the pasture with you!

    parent root
    20 points dinosaurkiller

Just give it a more easily comprehendible name for the suicidal dullards, “poop milk” if they continue drinking it after that, well, there was no saving them.

    parent root
    8 points dont_be_that_guy_29

If someone figured it out they could build a whole industry around it.

    parent root
    9 points fusillade762

No no NO. That will kill all the beneficial tuberculosis and salmonella.

    parent root
    7 points cybercuzco

I hear if you take raw milk and heat it up to 160F on the stove it makes it safe without destroying any of its milk qualities.

    parent root
    6 points roberthatch

    That causes autism.

    parent root
    1 points Chris9-of-10

    I have an immune system!

    parent root
    1 points Porphyrion

    Maybe heated it up…

    parent root
    1 points ShokWayve

What an idiotic statement. We have immune systems, we don’t need no science.

    (All sarcasm)

    Good. Keep drinking morons.

    parent
    107 points Westonhaus

As someone who grew up rural and poor, and getting milk from a local farmer friend of my dad's, I couldn't agree more.

/It was stupid that my fam drank unpasteurized milk, despite doing good sterilization protocols on containers. Plus, making our own butter was a pain.

//The fact that people are spending WAY over regular milk prices for this, to get the risk of bacterial infection is bizarre and supremely ignorant to me.

    parent root
    47 points matt_minderbinder

I grew up on a farm and have drank milk straight from the cow and all I can say is that it was bad parenting and crazy stupid. So many shared the same experience but used survivors' bias to come to the opposite conclusion. I now live in a different rural area full of people in the local Facebook group clamoring for raw cow milk. The only reason I'd consider it is to make my own cheese but that's because you heat it up in the process. I haven't done it only because I don't want to support those who traffic in it.

    15 points RoxxieMuzic

Some magat, somewhere: "Well, who in the world could have possibly thought something like this could happen? HEY! WAIT A MINUTE! Did any of those sick people ever have a vaccination before? Yeah, that's what I thought. ALL of 'em did! So, THAT'S probably why they all got sick - just like rfk jr said, it's the vaccines."

    parent
    14 points Cultural-Answer-321

    You are not even joking.

    parent root
    15 points EdisonLightbulb

Unfortunately, I personally know too many magats who are actually saying this. 😕

There was a time when being an idiot was something to be ashamed of.

    parent root
    26 points LitwicksandLampents

As much as I agree with you, it was actually RFK Jr who touted raw milk.

    parent root
    35 points frank_the_tanq

Trump made him SecHHS and gave legitimacy to his idiocy.

And yet, if Donny dies, Vance/no one is going to replace Kennedy.

    parent root
    1 points Affectionate-Virus17

Vance is even less compeling than that slice of moldy cheesecake left on my grandma's counter when we cleaned up her place 3 weeks after she passed. He has the charisma of a deaf mute youtuber with an audience of his mom. He has the sex appeal of the dead dog the previous owners buried in a tarp (why a tarp, ffs) years before my sister bought that house in the Catskills.

Don't help them. Send them home and don't waste a hospital bed.

    parent
    41 points vg80

Send them to a church and let prayer deal with it since they don’t believe in science.

    parent root
    10 points Farucci

Let (white) Jesus decide if these fools should live or die drinking raw milk with no immune system resistance. Please.

    parent root
    3 points TheFan88

    Sounds like the Amish!

    parent root
    20 points TeddyRivers

Unfortunately is often their children, who didn't chose for themselves, that get the worst effects.

    parent root
    20 points Jerking_From_Home

Parents should be charged with child neglect, endangerment etc. Everyone knows raw milk is dangerous; to give it to your children because your politics say you have to is criminal and people should be charged as such.

    parent root
    8 points thisdogofmine

I'm sure many of them are in the camp that thinks healthcare should be withheld from smokers.

    parent
  • 22 points woodenmetalman

As a native Idahoan I personally am just shocked. Shocked I tell you.

    parent
  • 21 points rebar_mo

IMHO if you intentionally give raw milk to children without any attempt to pasteurize it, and they get ill from it, you should be charged with child abuse.

    parent
  • 18 points The_Spectacle

my friend is so big into raw milk, he buys it from farm stands all over. it makes me nervous honestly

    parent
    27 points mirrorgrinder

No offense intended, but I’d be nervous to have someone who displays judgement that poor within an arm’s length, and I certainly wouldn’t get in a vehicle with them behind the wheel.

    parent root
    3 points BurtonDesque

Tell them they should get tested for TB before you'll let them in your presence again.

    parent root
  • 16 points Appropriate_Sir2020

Parents who give children raw milk should be arrested.

    parent

Because a lot of people are really fucking stupid.

    parent root
    5 points TheFan88

Because when they rediscover pasteurization they can claim to be smart by solving a problem we solved 100 years ago.

    parent root
    3 points DocFossil

They already know about pasteurization. They think it’s a conspiracy to turn frogs gay or some such stupidity. They literally reject pasteurization.

People in rural and red America have been telling us that health care isn't a right for 40+ years. It's time to let them have the W -- pull all access to health care, and let them take health advice from whatever grifters they want.
