Conservatism and science/reality denial do go hand in hand, yet it does not have to, the extremely right wing Australian government did a proper covid lockdown and may be anti renewables and anti progressive to the core, but they still fought covid far better than the USA and did not turn to vaccine/science denial.
This denial and death is simply to appease the orange monster. His supporters prefer death as long as they get more hate.
The federal government wasn't responsible for most of the lockdowns.
They were principally a state government initiative, which is how we ended up with Gladys B stuffing it up and Victoria having to bear the brunt of the lockdowns.
Yes, this needs to brought up so people don't forget that the our Federal government and our Prime Minster, Scott Morrison, one of the worst and most corrupt PM's of our time, if you ask me, did absolutely fuck all at the start and the initial spread of the pandemic.
To the point that the Victorian premier at the time, had to remind him that, no, under the legislation, its the Federal governments responsibllity and he should do his fucking job. But what can you expect from Scott Morrison, a man who doesn't know the meaning of responsibility, and only ever fails upwards in life.
For anyone who's wondering what that means, it's this.
Scott Morrison secretly appointed himself to five ministerial positions, on top of being Prime Minister. (There were already ministers who held those positions; some but not all of them knew that ScoMo had done this.)
By the standards of the shitshow in the USA right now, this would of course be a rather minor scandal. But by the standards of normal democratic governments it's still completely nuts.
At least Australia's current government is mostly sane, after Scott's mob [his successor as party head was this vaguely vampiric authoritarian fool] decided to try to get elected on a Trump Lite platform.
We have it here. It was a left-wing pollie who locked down Victoria (dan andrews) and even though he left years ago, right-wingers are still so angry at him. We call it ‘Dan derangement syndrome’.
Some of them continue arguing that even when its their own kids who die. Yes there's the 'o: it wasn't supposed to happen to me!!!' group but there's also the more insidious ones who watch their own children die from completely preventable diseases and say 'it was their time, god called them home.'
Its absolutely horrific just how rotted their brains are, and while they hide behind religion this mindset is the long reaching arm of eugenics still haunting us, still harming us all.
Yeah, they prefer to sacrifice their own children to their need for hate/their orange god.
Bear in mind their brains are not rotted, this is a Faustian bargain, hate in exchange for making the rich richer. Their "need" for hate trumps any other desire. They will give their own lives, their children's lives and even humanity's future in order to get more hate.
These are the top ten states for percentage of residents being prescribed GLP-1 drugs for weight loss or diabetes. These are self injected drugs. The top six states listed for prescribed GLP-1 drugs are also among the top states for vaccination hesitancy. Most of the states have the highest adult obesity rates as well. Why do the same anti-vaxxers not fear GLP-1 drugs? Common side effects of GLP-1 drugs include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and dizziness. In more serious cases, the medication can cause low blood sugar, pancreatitis, kidney failure and thyroid tumors, according to Ozempic and Wegovy websites. Novo Nordisk paid out over $125K to four patients who developed blindness from using Wegovy and Ozempic.
West Virginia – 24%
Kentucky – 22%
Louisiana – 20%
Oklahoma – 20%
Alabama – 19%
Mississippi – 19%
North Dakota – 18%
Alaska – 17%
Arkansas – 17%
Pennsylvania – 17%
Lose weight? Just fine to inject ourselves. To prevent Covid-19? Naw! Ain't getting that shot.
Isn’t RFK promoting this now?
So his brilliant antivaxx followers are taking these shots but not measles or covid shots?
Good.
Let them weed themselves out… natural selection can be a good thing.
We are being attacked. Dysinformation is literally the bombing raid of our times, people are suffering and dying. Foreign enemies figured out how to convince our people to reject literal science.
Maybe because their standard of living has taken a huge hit with inflation some of these parents are willfully risking their kids to lighten their financial burden in the long run? I can’t really rationalize any other reason to not do the thing for their kids that all of them have had done for themselves, get vaccinated. All of those adults or most of them who refuse to vaccinate their kids have all their childhood and adolescent vaccines.
Anti-vaxxers WANT their children to get measles and all these diseases. They think your immune system will get superpowers once you fight these off. They have no comprehension about the amount of childhood death that occurred before vaccines. They think the children that end up dying is less than the death caused by vaccines.
they're completely wrong, but these are the same innumerate people who firmly believe a third is smaller than a quarter. "¹/3 is smaller than ¹/4 because 3 is smaller than 4".
I'm 84. the only vaccines i had were smallpox and, later as a teen, polio. (i did lose an older brother to polio). but SO MANY children from my early school days didn't make it.
and then there's the MISERY of the illnesses. ask any small child "would you rather have a small jab? one single second of pain? or a week to ten days of itchy rashes and agony that MAY RESULT IN DEATH".
almost every child will choose the vaccine. parents (who have been vaccinated themselves, and never experienced the extreme discomfort or known anyone who suffered, or didn't survive) inflicting the risk of these diseases on their children is EVIL. no other word for it.
Right I k is that part. But they all have been vaccinated against those illnesses. So if it worked for them and they’re fine, they must want their kids to die to relieve the financial stress?
The short version is: money and loose morals. One medical study, done in bad faith and heavily altered in order to push a single manufacturer's version of the vaccine, caused a public panic by linking the MMR vaccine to autism. Basically all of the studies that have 'proved' this link can be traced back to Andrew Wakefield, the doctor leading the experiment.
At the time, autism was extremely misunderstood (and still is). People have been convinced to think of it as some kind of non-life, that people who have it can't lead good lives. That it's all emotional meltdowns, or that they need to be taken care of for decades.
And honestly I think that, deep down, none of them feel like they could be bothered to help give their kid a good life if they had autism, so it's better to just let them get measles and hopefully not die. Any complications from measels, in their mind, is better than autism, for some reason I, someone with autism, cannot comprehend.
But that's what I think it is: a calculated risk based on bad math and predatory fearmongering.
Makes a ton of sense. But the risk isn’t even calculated, it’s just risk based in selfishness, ignorance, and lack of empathy. Thank you for the education but now I’m even more pissed off.
Looks like ivermectin stock will go up again….
These people prefer cattle medicine and claim “herd immunity” will help them.
They’re wrong- all they have is “herd mentality” and a bunch of sick children.
Those poor kids….I’m grateful I came from educated parents.

"Scott Morrison, a man who doesn't know the meaning of responsibility"
What do you mean? He was responsible for 6 ministries!
For anyone who's wondering what that means, it's this.

Their election result was the worst major-party loss in Australian history.
That is effectively my point, despite being a grade A dirtbag he still made the USA look bad on covid.
We have it here. It was a left-wing pollie who locked down Victoria (dan andrews) and even though he left years ago, right-wingers are still so angry at him. We call it ‘Dan derangement syndrome’.
I cannot and won't discount that, but at the end of the day Australia as whole did much better than the USA as a whole on covid.
Modern conservatism is on a collision course with mass suicide...
You’re right of course. We’re all looking at the US and wincing while shaking our heads.
IKR
The USA wants to fail IMO.
I prefer Dan Derangement Disorder - DDD.

Recent measles outbreaks in places like Texas have been centered on the Mennonite community. Last I checked they were neither refugees nor minorities.
0/10. Go be a racist liar someplace else.
Their god wants them to die from preventable diseases?
Their gOd works in mysterious ways. There's nothing anyone could've done.
Except get a vaccine and live which is a fate worse than death (to them).
Some of them honest and truly argue that.
Some of them continue arguing that even when its their own kids who die. Yes there's the 'o: it wasn't supposed to happen to me!!!' group but there's also the more insidious ones who watch their own children die from completely preventable diseases and say 'it was their time, god called them home.'

I support their god then.
I very much see where you are coming from.
The deaths are a punishment from god for following false prophets.
Except that they would have lived by following those "false
profitsprophets".Vaccine misinformation.... OR..., complete & utter ignorance??
Yes.
Both.
It's interesting that 9 of the top 10 states... are RED states.
Not a coincidence.
Well, it makes no sense. Which, kind of makes sense.
Isn’t RFK promoting this now? So his brilliant antivaxx followers are taking these shots but not measles or covid shots? Good. Let them weed themselves out… natural selection can be a good thing.
Pertussis outbreak in Arkansas. Stupid people.
Make Petussis great again!
I was fully vaccinated as a kid but because of these idiots I've gotten a TDAP and MMR booster recently.
Supposed to get Tdap every 10 years anyway
Lmao I was probably late getting it now that I think about it.
South Carolina? Sounds about right.
Child abuse
If a child is born with measles-related brain damage in a red state, how would you know?
M’eh. The south continues to south.
It's interesting that they see death as a better outcome than a small, unproven chance of autism.
eugenics in action
The stupid shall be punished. High likelihood it’s their kids that will suffer most; unfortunate.
And highly likely that their kids will end up repeating the same cycle of ignorance.
There is no vaccination against stupidity
There is, it’s called good public education
That's indoctrination! (Republicans, probably)
Actually not probably.
….. and listening to a cult that questions established facts, science and common sense in favor of “their own research”
We are being attacked. Dysinformation is literally the bombing raid of our times, people are suffering and dying. Foreign enemies figured out how to convince our people to reject literal science.
I blame right-wing stupidity and propaganda way more than I'd blame foreign enemies.
The root of much of this ignorance lies in the Republican Party. This is overwhelmingly an American-made problem.
Just awful
