My cousin bought this at an eclectic artsy consignment store in Oakland, CA. Didn't specify what it was meant to hold. It certainly seems like it was made to hold specific things. She's gonna find things to put in it but Im very curious about it's original purpose if anybody knows. There's no markings on it.

Thanks y'all!

  • If it's for painting, those slots may likely be for the skinny end of paint tubes.

  • My bet is on a personal stationary box. Slots for nubs, space for multiple pens holders and an ink well. But there isn’t a specific spot for wax and seal. So I’m placing a cheap bet.

  • Vampire hunting?

  • For some reason I’m feeling like it’s a storage cabinet for next to the wall phone. The spot on the left is book sized and it’s clearly been attached to a wall. The “cover” is big enough for a note pad. It’s a stretch but it’s certainly meant to be vertical

  • I would guess that goes on the back of a pew to hold a Bible and some pens or pencils

This is the answer. My church growing up had one like this. Held a bible and a song book and envelopes for the offering and pens to write on those envelopes.

So do lots of churches. Not only are those built into the back of the pew but they don't have that extra row of slots and they don't have a case cover because it's totally unnecessary.

  • Reminds me of the box that held my Sterling cutlery / place setting set.

Yeah, the slots look really similar. The thing on the lid and the fact it's not padded is throwing me off though

  • I searched Google but don't know what I'm looking for other than wooden holder or container. I tried putting knives in it, seems off for paint brushes that I had. Thanks again friends.

  • Goes on the back of a church pew. Holds bibles or hymnals, pens etc.

  • It’s a catholic wall mounted home devotional/altar box.

  • Silverware is my guess. The fancy stuff.
