Deadliest shooting in Aus since the Port Arthur massacre in 96, which was the catalyst for our strict gun laws. Never thought I'd see this happen. Sickening.
It’s so infuriating when they say “we can’t possibly enact gun laws” and you just look at Australia. If we wanted to, we would. But after Columbine it was a long shot that we’d ever part from our violent fantasies, and after Sandy Hook that dream was gone
There should be more safeguards and red tape around buying a gun in the US, but outright gun bans are just straight up not possible or realistic at this point. There are more firearms than people in the US. There is no putting that genie back in the bottle.
If we want to stop mass shootings, we need universal healthcare with access to actual mental healthcare, more regulation of the process of actually buying the guns, and also for our federal agencies to not just be in the fucking telegram chats that push these guys to do this shit while doing nothing to actually take the groups down or stop the attacks.
Their brains won’t break, they’ll just straight up ignore that fact. Watch the news mention it maybe once, but focus for years on the fact that a country with strict gun laws had an incident like this. “Gun laws don’t work!” they’ll cry, without reflecting on how long it’s been since an incident like this
I hope any of the deadshits advocating for Cronulla 2.0 get outed and sacked. Although Sky News, 7 News and certain zionist lobby groups are being the worst instigators.
Western Australian here. I'm ~4,000km away from Sydney(similar LA to NY) and it feels like it happened right here.
The r/Australia thread is filled with anti-immigration comments. They seem to be getting downvoted but I feel like this is going to be a turning point in our politics.
One Nation(our MAGA) is already rising in the polls. They're going to use this to push a lot of people into being anti-immigration. It's already bad enough the amount of anti-immigration commentors before this.
Our wet towel of a PM has 1 chance to do something about it.
Yep I’m also seeing the foulest comments across social media from racist Australians openly expressing anti-immigrant and Islamophobia. No connection being made to this possibly being an extremist act of blowback. Just flagrant racism.
>Our wet towel of a PM has 1 chance to do something about it.
Not much hope there. Other than rush through some poorly conceived legislation that curbs civil liberties further like they’ve done already and conflates criticising Israel with antisemitism. Which just compounds the problem.
Absolutely horrifying. And I am deeply fearful for what’s to come.. already Israel, right wingers and Zionists barely waiting 30 minutes to use this to push their agenda.
Also side note fuck me 7News should not be able to report on any news ever. Disgusting “journalism”. Pedalling shit immediately from X with zero checks. At one point bro was just reading shit from his phone.
Let alone the poor man who was absolutely in shock they interviewed
yeah because it's relevant. i first heard about the shooting from a suggested reddit post in r/news. i went into the comments and it was FULL of people blaming the pro-palestine protests in Australia for causing this.
It got 20 more upvotes since then & there was another top comment saying “this is why we need Zionism”. It got so bad mods removed these comments & eventually the whole thread…
Wow you have so many comments in support of Israel. If you want to see a "privated" account click their profile. Then don't type anything in the search bar, hit enter. Then click comments. Happy finding smurf destiny accounts.
When Jews are killed the most important topic is how are people going to use this to be more evil. Antisemitism is secondary and Jewish victims are tertiary.
I’m actually scared shitless I don’t even live in Sydney but this is way too close to home it feels like an American video but it’s not it’s here it’s just so fucked
Yeah. I'm Aussie. I don't live anywhere near Sydney but I'm scared that this reflects a growing sentiment in our country and is just the beginning of a spiral. We have had mass shootings before though. We had one in 2022 that killed 6 people and one earlier this year that injured 18. They aren't unheard of. This one seems to be much more publicized though
We are truly becoming/already are america light at this stage. Racism is so normalised again (never went away but I feel it was less acceptable publically) and I’m really scared for what life is going to be like following this
I live in Sydney. It’s pretty shocking what happened. I heard so many sirens and helicopters and I’m just in the inner west area.
I’m honestly a little worried and hope that this attack won’t be used to justify hatred against immigrants, but seeing some comments made by people and even family members on Facebook I can see pretty clearly that there is backlash and it’s racially targeting brown immigrants. I hope people stand together against bigotry and hatred, not just fight hatred with even more hatred…
Im from Melbourne and feeling the same, my head is spinning this is awful. Just last night I was at a gig and thinking how grateful I am to feel safe at these events.. just to see senseless death 24 hours later.
For us here its not normal and its ok for Aussies to feel shaken.
As an Australian, I don’t understand how the fuck the shooters got access to those weapons in the first place??? Very tragic. Obviously Australian media is already reporting on it in the most disgusting way.
israel's foreign minister is already trying to blame this on australia's pro-palestine movement, predictably. I'm deeply concerned about the consequences of this in the coming weeks, I have pretty much no faith in our government to not just enact a bunch of unhelpful knee-jerk reactionary policies that target all the wrong people in the aftermath, and then all that will come of this is more repression and violence
WHich is exactly what extremist groups want. They don't want you to have an "alternative" they want you to make a choice so both sides grown in power and any other way of thinking of this will be seen as treasonous.
The victims were attending a Hanukkah event on the beach. Still nothing to confirm specific motivations, but it being an antisemitic attack seems pretty clear
I read the question as them wanting to understand why most people are tying it to Gaza and if there is anything they have missed, the identities of the victims and perpetrators is the entirety of that reason
Yea, I find it weird the PM immediately put a label on it without evidence.
I mean, yea there is good reason to suspect and investigate that line of motive, and any betting man would take the bet it was anti-zionism or antisemitism, but to make a public statement like that seems odd.
There is a non zero chance some dude there slept with their wife, they had a mental break and it was a mindless act of violence and the setting was just the largest gathering close to them, or several other scenarios.
I would expect a statement from the PM to be something like "It's too early to say, but we have the suspects in custody and we are actively looking into the motives. We'll know more soon."

Sickening. Big ups to Ahmed Al Ahmed, the unarmed hero who tackled and wrestled the gun away from one of the shooters, saving untold lives. Fuck fascists of every ilk who perpetuate antisemitism and try to divide people, and fuck anyone who tries to use this tragedy as a cudgel against Palestinians.
It‘s just so hard to tackle any of this. What hope is there for resolving anything in this world when the butterfly effect of ethnic displacement 75 years ago still rages on today
Aussie subs are blowing up, there’s a lot of far-right anti-immigration sentiment here right now. These dudes are gonna run with this, these bigot weirdos just won the white-man-victim Olympics. Watch white Australia come down on Arabs and the pro-Palestine movement now. Also they gonna max out on the ‘antisemitism’ narrative, forget that Gazans are still dying every day.
And rightfully so, this is the deadliest mass shooting in our country since Port Arthur in 1996. I'm glad I live in a country where this is a big deal and everyone does care.
just so we're clear you were unable to answer any questions on why this horrible attack was a false flag perpetrated by the CIA and your response was to claim im in the pay of Israel. How about we wait for actual info on the attack before we jump to wild speculation about how actually the jews did it to themselves, which for the record is what im getting from you
No this is not what globalizing the intifada means at all. We want freedom from oppressive and cruel governments, not the slaughter of random people. Believe it or not, most leftists base their values on wanting the world to be a better place for everyone in it. You're chasing shadows and fake boogeymen

Wild to see such a large gap between tragedies, meanwhile there's a mass shooting weekly in the US.
There are more mass shootings in the US than there are days in a year so its more than weekly lol
I'd say of a similar severity to this, we get it maybe a dozen times a year.
A “mass shooting” is with 3+ victims. The US has multiple mass shootings a day.
"accounting or not accounting for gang violence"
It’s so infuriating when they say “we can’t possibly enact gun laws” and you just look at Australia. If we wanted to, we would. But after Columbine it was a long shot that we’d ever part from our violent fantasies, and after Sandy Hook that dream was gone

You should ask anyone that has a gun licence how easy it is to purchase a weapon now.
Got friends on facebook already salivating for a race war.
Same. Now I’m just watching their brains break by telling them that hero who tackled the shooter and saved many lives is called Ahmed Al Ahmed…
Their brains won’t break, they’ll just straight up ignore that fact. Watch the news mention it maybe once, but focus for years on the fact that a country with strict gun laws had an incident like this. “Gun laws don’t work!” they’ll cry, without reflecting on how long it’s been since an incident like this
I remember that briefly happening during Christchurch
I hope any of the deadshits advocating for Cronulla 2.0 get outed and sacked. Although Sky News, 7 News and certain zionist lobby groups are being the worst instigators.
The amount of anti immigration sentiment I’ve seen on my timeline is depressing. We are a very racist country.
Hero bystander tackles Bondi Beach shooter
How many VBs deep do you reckon he was?
I hope him and the other unc (it was a different dude who threw the bottle… I think) got out okay
One looked like they were shot in the arm. Hope they’re alright.
His name is Ahmed Al Ahmed, he was shot twice during the commotion but likely saved so many people. Dude is a hero, hope he pulls through.
Damn, maybe no VBs then. Even more incredible.
Yeah...

Gotta be bots fueling the hate, no?
Also in W.A. and ... yeah, it doesn't feel far away
disgusting. and already being used as "evidence" that anti Israel beliefs mean violent antisemitism. great
Aus gov love to make knee jerk policy. There will be some insane stuff in the coming weeks coming from albo
yep get ready for Groypers and anti-genocide activists to get grouped together by the media
God bless the man in the white t shirt. What an absolute badass.

You're just lying at this point
https://www.reddit.com/r/news/comments/1pm969g/police_responding_to_developing_incident_at/
Literally one of the top comments there says “Time to clamp down on the pro Palestinians protestors”
This one?
https://www.reddit.com/r/news/comments/1pm969g/police_responding_to_developing_incident_at/ntydll8/
The one with 22 upvotes? In a post with over a thousand comments (and with actual top comments having thousands of upvotes)?
Either you have a different definition of what "FULL" means, or he was lying.
It got 20 more upvotes since then & there was another top comment saying “this is why we need Zionism”. It got so bad mods removed these comments & eventually the whole thread…
So still a minuscule percent of the general amount of comments? How many upvotes was the other "top comment"?
I have more downvotes in this thread than those comments had in a thread more than time as big than this one...
Wow you have so many comments in support of Israel. If you want to see a "privated" account click their profile. Then don't type anything in the search bar, hit enter. Then click comments. Happy finding smurf destiny accounts.
Holy shit it worked. Idk why they bother coming into here they aren't going to just be down voted and blocked. Good use of your time morons.

Yeah, there‘s been a pretty big intelligence failure and they said tonight one of the shooters were on the radar.

Had a quick look and can see in 2019 we had over a million registered in NSW alone.

Omfg I did not know this. I’m from VIC so this really wasn’t on my radar 😭
I’m on the other side and of the country and it still feels so fucking close to home. My heart is broken for everyone in Sydney.
Until everything is evened out news wise, I’d recommend ppl be cautious with info. The worst people will be taking advantage of this situation rn
Agreed on all counts. I'm on the opposite side of the country also but it doesn't feel far away.

Is the ethnicity of the shooters the only evidence they have this was a politically motivated shooting, or has there been a manifesto or something?
I can't seem to find anything talking about Israel besides the PM's statement.

Damn, first Isis attacks American troops in Syria, now they attack Jewish people in Australia? This is tragic

If it was actually ISIS responsible for this then they wouldn't have attacked a Jewish event, let alone one with direct ties to Israel and the IDF.
why? they've claimed attacks in Israel before
