I've never even felt the slightest pang when returning the fosters, other than something like "I should have enjoyed them more." But this was a real wrench. While I absolutely adore the three little graybies as a unit, Ticket was my favorite on an individual level.

I have had roommates accidentally let my cats out more than once. But I was lucky, and everyone made it back safely.
Her roommate cried about it, he still feels awful to this day. She was very very friendly and very very beautiful, a medium haired tortie. We’re hoping that she just walked up to someone to say hi and got scooped up, since she didn’t have a collar. Because the alternative is thinking about her getting eaten.
When I moved in, she had a big fat black-and-white cat named Charlie who had survived a fight with a coyote after her former fiancé accidentally let him out at five in the morning.

Airport is the only one that still genuinely annoys Groucho. Passport and Suitcase just give him a little affectionate bump and look or walk away, and when they climb into his big heated bed, they lay down on the other side of it. They might end up touching him, but they don't make a big deal about it, so Groucho doesn't either. But Airport is a needy little fuck, so that is not enough for him.
But he's finally starting to tone it down a little, and Groucho is starting to cut him a little more slack.

Bye bye babies! They're sad now but they're gonna have great lives because you gave them such a great start. Do you worry about where they end up or does your shelter work hard at screening people?
The Oregon Humane Society is probably the best shelter in the United States. They have a 98% placement rate, even though they take seniors, pets with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and behavioral problems. They have thousands of foster volunteers, so none of those pets have to wait in the shelter the whole time. They get to live normally with people who understand how to help them with their issues, while remaining listed on the website. They never have to euthanize to make space.
They have a training hospital in the shelter, with a dorm upstairs for students. So all those problematic pets are actually an asset for them. They give the students valuable experience.
And when a foster volunteer calls them to say “my neighbor talked herself out of adopting Ticket, but now she regrets it, is it OK if I get in line on her behalf when he becomes available,” they tell you not to worry about it, as long as she has already filled out the adoption questionnaire, they’ll hold him for her.
You heard it here first, Ticket will be able to come over for play dates!
The shelter opens at 10, but people show up hours in advance when new kittens get listed. They told me that the first person in line was there for Subway, as were a couple of other disappointed people.
Hey Rain, just wanted to say that I’ve been following your accounts across numerous platforms for years and before Ticket, and hadn’t seen you this in love with a cat other than your gang at home (who you’re obviously smitten with, as am I).
Do you know if Ticket has a home yet? I can’t help but feeling like the timing is very timely (hehe), kinda like Harpo sent you a lil buddy to keep you company. He would definitely wait until you were ready and willing to fall in love with another cat before sending you a little soul and it definitely seems like you’ve fallen for Ticket. Sorry if any of this seems rude or inappropriate, obviously I don’t know your situation and only knew Harpo through a screen but I’d feel worse not saying anything.

It's such a wrench giving up fosters but I comfort myself by thinking I've been a small part of enabling them to go on to live their best lives. Of course I'd keep ALL the kittens & cats if I could. But I'm helping more by letting them go. The pain is real tho, it's choking.
