We have friends who put in a gorgeous dark wood floor. Beautiful.
They took it out about a year later and had it replaced with a lighter wood. Every footprint showed. Even taking their shoes off and with no pets at the door it still showed every.little.thing.
Yeah you can see the footprints from clean socks. Ā My buddy had them at one time, they look great! Ā But he and his wife said they would never do black floors again
I actually just switched flooring this year from the dark to light and even though itās harder to keep clean especially with dogs I prefer the darker look wise.
Just a thought but owning a home as fabulous as this screams house keepers etc. And donāt get me wrong I would never suggest unnecessary overworking staff. But if the black is your choice.. IJS.
Contemporary black works for all seasons. So does rustic. But the wood decor isnāt rustic. Itās more modern. So imma have to side with contemporary black.
Woock. Wood AND black, but light colors on the floor. That black-ish wall is ok if it's just a short wall. Too oppressive if it's a long wall. White marble would be a beautiful floor with that dark wall, or black floor with light walls.
From what I've seen in American (well, US) homes, dark ceilings and dark wooden walls are quite common.
It's... depressing, to me.
Whitewashed or light colored wood is not. That's MY opinion, but you do what YOU like.
Theyāre both beautiful, but what feeling do you want in your home? The wood is warmer. The black is elegant, but isnāt as inviting for lack of a better word.
I can also tell you from personal experience that black painted steps on a dark winter morning are treacherous. I was staying with friends who have them and slipped and fell down the stairs. because I was unfamiliar and couldnāt see very well.
Additionally, I have white spindles with black rails, and the dings in the paint really show on the black. I had wood rails and spindles in my last house and they were not noticeable.
Black appears wealthy, elegant, and cold. Brown appears warm and embracing. I'd choose brown, especially if I'm raising a family. If my goal was to entertain others and live a stately life, then black.
Itās like the images of the interior of the Home Alone house. It was warm like a family hug during the film era but the new owners gave it the black stain and white/grey wall treatment and it looks like an upscale dentists waiting room now.
I like the black as far as looks. The brown wood will show less dust though. Iām not a fan of the brown color because it looks dated. Just my opinion though. Iām sure Iāll be downvoted into oblivion.
These are completely different interiors with different paint jobs lighting and decor. So idk if youāre looking at a total look or just for a specific feature thatās going in a different space.
I say either one, but change the lightbulbs to "cool white" or "Daylight" to make it more brighter, this whole yellow (warm/soft white) looking brightness irritates me lol
First of all these are 2 different homes.. 2 different designs 2. Little difficult to compare colors when the houses give off a whole different vibe to begin with.
If you live with family go for wooden. If you live alone, go for black wood.
Point being with multiple people black will be more cold and dirty, wooden will be inviting and will feel like home.
If you're living alone, you're going to leave less marks and it will be more clean throughout the month. Also your visitors will know you are filthy rich (which you probably are).
As times change the wood will always be ok. The black looks great in 2025. But that look will go out of style and date the home. Then once black, canāt go back.
Wood
Easyer to match with other materials and colors. I understand what you want to do, but the warmth the wood color brings is something extra. Then Get your self some dark sofa and furnitureš
Confused as to what you mean. Just the railing? Everything else is different in these photos. Itās not a fair comparison. Like are you changing everything to match the right or?
I absolutely love the black aesthetic with this particular space! I would personally go with that as it would be worth the extra effort to keep the dust from showing imo.
I have an almost black floor. Came with the house. Itās horrible!! Shows every piece of dust and every foot print. I canāt wait to get it refinished.
Please go with wood. Wood is warm, cheery, and inviting. Black isā¦well just look at it. Why would you do that to yourself? Why would you surround yourself with a cold, colorless, monochrome environment? Why would you cover up the beautiful, natural patterns of wood with black paint, which absorbs all colors, doesnāt reflect them, and will be very good at showing off all the dust that will inevitably collect on it?
Wood looks pretty standard. Not a good or bad thing for me. Black looks beautiful but not the more l look at it the more I feel like Iām playing horror movies in my mind and I donāt need that lol
The wood looks more cosy to me
Yea true and also looks fresh in the eyes very comforting
Wood is warmer and more welcoming. I can't understand why people want to live in bland, colorless, stagnation.
Black is a color lol
And bright! I love it too
An easier to clean
Wood + some warm-ish blue or sage is what I would go for šāØļø But it's a question of taste
Yes the lighter wood is always more welcomingā¦thumb
Same. I'd prefer wood.
Wood... less dust will show up. A dark floor will show everything more easily.
You will see EVERYTHING!!!!!
EVERYTHING !!!!
I can confirm.
I just bought a black book-shelf thingy and just 5 days after its really visable all the dust.
My wood floor never shows dirt
Ugh I hate this but yes. Black flooring or dark wood is a killer and hope there arenāt animals because itāll just be all bad.
It doesnāt show dirt
And you can change the side table into a beautiful black item thatās classic and stylish.
Wood by far
Black. The wood already looks yellow orange and dated. Like a before picture and the black is after.
Wood seems more light-full.
But Black definitely looks classier. The downside is that you'd have to clean the black much more often.
I prefer the black
Same. It looks more stately and elegant. The art shows up better and the pillar table is nicer.
But I don't like yellow, orange tones much...and I don't like that ceiling light.
Until itās your task to keep it clean. Ā Then itās a nightmare
The post asks which one people prefer not which one people prefer to clean.
I actually just switched flooring this year from the dark to light and even though itās harder to keep clean especially with dogs I prefer the darker look wise.
Everybody saying you canāt keep black clean, I have black wood floors and stairs and I love them and it feels crisp as fuck
Technically Black wood
Imo black is very stylish nowadays.. classy if you will.
Black is stately, and yeah, classy. Brown is more warm and inviting, cozier, and dust wonāt show up as fast!
Black. It's timeless and basically anything goes with it.
Itās only timeless until you have to actually come to clean it and dust it⦠and then itās suddenly ātimefullā
We used dark nearly black wood on white for our house. Never again.
Just get a Roborock with a vacuum and mop. I have dark floors and the robot keeps them spotless.
Black
Depends on the floor colour.
Black looks nicer
Black for sure
Black
Black
The dark one is more pleasant, I think
Black
Black
Black
Black
Black for the aesthetic but the wood is definitely more cozy and homey.
Black
As an avid woodworker, I feel compelled to say wood. However..... In this case the wood looks dated, and the black looks timeless.
Black!!
Black!
Black
Once you go blackā¦
Black
Wood, but I like the darker wood of the floor on the right, but instead of the black paint Iād prefer a naturally darker wood or a dark stain.
WOOD
Wood... It's beautifulĀ
personally wood, but iām biased, my favorite colour is beige so yeah.. but the black/white one is very nice too
Go with wood I guess?
Black depending on furniture and appliances
CHOOSE WOOOODS šš„°
Woock. Wood AND black, but light colors on the floor. That black-ish wall is ok if it's just a short wall. Too oppressive if it's a long wall. White marble would be a beautiful floor with that dark wall, or black floor with light walls.

It's... depressing, to me. Whitewashed or light colored wood is not. That's MY opinion, but you do what YOU like.
Both are very pretty. The wood looks more casual, natural. The black is more formal and may show more dirt.
Feels hard to pick due to different stair designs.
That's both fcking wood ?!
Black is very of the moment ⦠it will look dated in 5-10 years ⦠wood is ageless
for me, I'd pick the wood. dark finishes show every single speck of dust and fingerprints
do you want a fancy "picture" or an inviting room?
Theyāre both beautiful, but what feeling do you want in your home? The wood is warmer. The black is elegant, but isnāt as inviting for lack of a better word.
I can also tell you from personal experience that black painted steps on a dark winter morning are treacherous. I was staying with friends who have them and slipped and fell down the stairs. because I was unfamiliar and couldnāt see very well.

Wood.
Thatās espresso
FRANK WOODS
Wood.
Wood is classic and never goes out of style
If it were 1991, I would say wood.
Wood, 100%
Wood looks more like a home and less like a business
Wood. Keeps things more bright and inviting
Torn, but have to go light wood tones here
Black appears wealthy, elegant, and cold. Brown appears warm and embracing. I'd choose brown, especially if I'm raising a family. If my goal was to entertain others and live a stately life, then black.
Rich ppl problems
So now we're just posting unrelated ai botslop in a sub that has nothing to do with it and everyone's just playing along?
I like the black. I don't like black and white though. Wood it is then.
I love black one
Wood looks like you haven't gotten around to updating your 30-year-old house. Black looks like you have.
Itās like the images of the interior of the Home Alone house. It was warm like a family hug during the film era but the new owners gave it the black stain and white/grey wall treatment and it looks like an upscale dentists waiting room now.
Make it normal make it brown. Make it sleek and stylish, do black
BLACK!
Black
Black
Black
Wood looks cheap, basic, but easy to clean. Black is indescribably more elegant and projects that you care about how your space looks.
Left
WOOD
Wood
Black is what is fashionable now, that may fall out of fashion soon. Wood is pretty much always in fashion and it looks cleaner, i.e. dust.
Wood looks nice, like an old southern cottage. But black is sleek and cool, very stylish, Iād go with that.
Window
Wood. But not the shade in the first photo.
Wood. Black is too dark and cold
Black
I like the black as far as looks. The brown wood will show less dust though. Iām not a fan of the brown color because it looks dated. Just my opinion though. Iām sure Iāll be downvoted into oblivion.
Black! It gives an elegant vibe.
I prefer the black but the dust is an issue
These are completely different interiors with different paint jobs lighting and decor. So idk if youāre looking at a total look or just for a specific feature thatās going in a different space.
WOOD IS SO GORGEOUS and warm and homey, stop getting rid of gorgeous wood and replacing it/painting over with black š
Wood feels like a home. Black looks like a hotel.
Black!

I say either one, but change the lightbulbs to "cool white" or "Daylight" to make it more brighter, this whole yellow (warm/soft white) looking brightness irritates me lol
I changed mine from wood to black. Did it myself. Cutting 146 metal ballisters was a bitch

Wood although both are beautiful wood feels like it goes better together as a whole.Ā
Black
Wood
First of all these are 2 different homes.. 2 different designs 2. Little difficult to compare colors when the houses give off a whole different vibe to begin with.
Wood
Black. If you can afford a house like that you can afford to hire someone to clean it.
The one on the right. The left is hideous. Those colors are wrong
Iām typically an oak person but the black is calling my name here. Looks so effortlessly cool
The wood era is fading for now, will be back?
If you live with family go for wooden. If you live alone, go for black wood.
Point being with multiple people black will be more cold and dirty, wooden will be inviting and will feel like home. If you're living alone, you're going to leave less marks and it will be more clean throughout the month. Also your visitors will know you are filthy rich (which you probably are).
Black
I could perhaps make a decision if the photo on the left was properly color balanced. Looks like it has jaundice.
As times change the wood will always be ok. The black looks great in 2025. But that look will go out of style and date the home. Then once black, canāt go back.
Black!!
Black. Wood looks dated
Wood, but a classier lighter colour or darker.
Neitherrrrr is this an option because both feel fairly feminine
Black
Wood
Black
Wood Easyer to match with other materials and colors. I understand what you want to do, but the warmth the wood color brings is something extra. Then Get your self some dark sofa and furnitureš
Wood
Well, both are wood...
I prefer the lighter tone. Feels more warm and welcoming
Black
Black looks formal and classy imho....
Depends on what look you want. Modern, Contemporary, Modern Ranchā¦ā¦
Love the black!
Confused as to what you mean. Just the railing? Everything else is different in these photos. Itās not a fair comparison. Like are you changing everything to match the right or?
Black
Black is so elegant
Wood is classic and will always look good. Black is trendy and will look dated soon as it looks dated to me already. Too many millennial grey vibes
Black.
I think the black is classier and more interesting, but it definitely has to be a no shoes house or there will be scuff marks on those white steps.
Black
Wood.
Go with what's most expensive.
Iām voting black. I know itās the lighting but the left side is giving me gold settings that HE is ruining at The White House
I think the right looks better, but the left is definitely easier to keep clean. Iād probably go left
I absolutely love the black aesthetic with this particular space! I would personally go with that as it would be worth the extra effort to keep the dust from showing imo.
Wood or wood. Both wood. The dark wood is my preference.
Wood, it just looks warmer and more homely.
Black
Iād live in the wood and visit the black.
Itās not the same house though, both.
Wood feels warmer and more inviting imo. And def more timeless
Black
Black!
Black.
I have an almost black floor. Came with the house. Itās horrible!! Shows every piece of dust and every foot print. I canāt wait to get it refinished.
Black is still wood.
wood
Black!
100% black
personally i like the black.. but i'm the kind of person that wants to see dust, so i can clean it asap.
Please go with wood. Wood is warm, cheery, and inviting. Black isā¦well just look at it. Why would you do that to yourself? I prefer the color of the floor on pic 1 but with a black railing and banister
Black looks way better
Wood. The "black" looks good now, but in 30 years we'll all have moved on with our tastes and it won't look classy.
I think the photo illustrates how available light will really affect your choice.
wood for sureee, it feels sm cozier
Black ez, if its dusty then clean... also ez.
Wood
Wood
What color is the human and pet hair that will be living there?
Black
Def go with the wood! Timeless classic!
Black! I like black doors too for some reason.
Black š¤
Wood looks pretty standard. Not a good or bad thing for me. Black looks beautiful but not the more l look at it the more I feel like Iām playing horror movies in my mind and I donāt need that lol
light or dark* is the right question āŗļø and go light
Black
I love the black look, feels more modern, the gold looks more mideval/Victorian
Black is gorgeous but will show dust. I would still choose black though
Black looks better
Black
Black
Black! The wood is dated looking
Walnut brown
Black for me. š
Black looks much better.
The dark stained wood or āblackā is the most visible appealing in my opinion
The black is gorgeous. The wood is just so warm and inviting.
Wood. Looks more friendly.
Wood, I personally prefer a brighter look for home vs a dark look, saying as a person who almost always prefer darker dull colors for anything else.
