Best I could do myself is Google Earth aerial from '04-05. And a waymarking thread of the replacement store at 674 Queenston mentioning the old store shown above which had been outdated.

The site at 727 Queenston which is currently occupied by Hibachi Teppanyaki & Bar was originally the site of a McDonald's, which i think was built and opened around 1971-'72, I think this one had been the oldest in the entire Hamilton area, and also the first one in Hamilton to get a drive-thru if i can correct myself clearly,

Around 1979 it got a drive-thru window, and then got an indoor playground around 1991-'92 (It was not the full-sized one with the all-glass enclosure however, it was pretty small and was more of a maze, complete with a ballpit),

The location would close in 2005-2006 in favor for a newer, more bigger location being built across the street at the corner of Nash and Queenston, as part of a major overhaul of Queenston Place that was taking place at the time, Shortly after the old building was razed, and then in late 2007 Hibachi Teppanyaki & Bar would purchase the land and then build their building and open there the following year, Can anyone help me find a photo of it during its run as a McDonald's?

  • Your last paragraph is wrong. It was redeveloped into a Boston Pizza which closed abruptly in August 2018. The Hibachi restaurant didn’t open at that location until early 2025.

It was something else in there, as well. It was a Mother's Pizza for a bit, though I don't remember if that was before or after Boston Pizza.

A few different owners went through before it became Hibachi.

Mothers pizza was in where the spa is a little down the street. Used to be a Ponderosa.

And before that a red lobster

The Mother’s Pizza was at 701 Queenston down the street a bit which was a Tony Roma’s immediately prior to that.

Mother’s pizza was at the old red lobster/tony romas. There used to be a Swiss chalet where the hibachi place is. Before Boston pizza.

Swiss chalet was always next door to the McDonald's but it was also bulldozed and a new one built in its place. Not sure when, probably around the same time McDonald's was torn down to make the Boston pizza. My aunt was a waitress at the old Swiss chalet. My mom waitressed at the red lobster. I was at that McDonald's often.

That early 90s playplace was magical

  • I don't have any photos but I was going to Glendale from 2001-2004ish and I remember Queenston Place being re-developed and the McDonalds moving across the street. That whole area has actually changed quite a bit since then, there was a 7 Eleven where the LJM condo site is and the Starsky used to be a Ford dealership. I wish I could find photos of it, kinda seems like a fever dream now.

yea wish there was more records of things pre street view era

  • Oh, the high school years. Many a memory in that Mickey D’s.

    Half of Glendale worked there

The other half worked at the Canadian Tire

  • crazy as i was just thinking about this old location after I saw a reddit post about the old one by Limeridge Rd. My Dad didnt even remember it being on the other side of the street. Meanwhile me born in 1995 remembers it vividly. probably because I used to think that one had the best play place. I just remember the play place having these like Green and purple tubes/slides you would climb through. and felt like a human hampster cage aha idk why i enjoyed it so much. would love to see some old pics

  • Aww yes... Memories... Birthday parties, pizza happy meals, n64 kiosks, kids shitting in the play place tubes. Those are the days.

  • My first time eating at McDonalds was at that location - went to Glendale 77-81 and this place was a staple- so was the Harveys across the road too - they used to slice the potatoes fresh to make fries

Swiss Chalet mentioned was the first time I had Swiss Chalet too- thought the sauce was a soup !

Mothers Pizza on Centennial parkway would serve us ( underage ) for beers and meatball sandwich too- great times

  • I think the Barton St location was before that one
