I guess I'm just stuck with hats now, huh? How can I combat this? Is it really balding? My mom also tried to say it's just how it's parted... But I'm not sure.
Apparently I can’t post this on the main page, so I’m having to post it here…
TL;DR: Does anyone know of somewhere that will reliably test the chemical composition of a custom MPB topical treatment?
Some context: I’m a 40 year old male who lives in the UK and is relatively fit and healthy.
For several years I’ve paid Hemia Cosmetics to compound a custom hair loss serum that consists of 0.01% fin, 5% min and 0.01% tret. I did this in an effort to find a formula that slows my MPB, whilst eradicating the sides I was experiencing from the standard higher doses found in the big named suppliers like Hims etc.
I’ve been using this company for a while, applying the formula every evening. I believe that I am getting some sides, but not as severely as when I took 1mg of oral fin, or some of the higher dosed topicals. As a side, I am aware that fin will go systemic over a long enough period of time, regardless of the dose.
However, recently I’ve been experiencing quite severe headaches when I wake up that sometimes last throughout the day, on top of a general fuzzy head, low sex drive and serious lethargy.
I’m going to get some blood tests done to see if it’s being caused by something like low testosterone or anaemia, but that wouldn’t account for the headaches which I’m now thinking could be caused by this batch of topical hair loss serum.
In an effort to find the cause, I’d like to get this compound tested, but can’t find anywhere that will do it. The closest I’ve come are a few companies that will test the purity of recreational drugs, but I need to find somewhere that will be able to tell me exactly what chemicals are in this formula and their quantities.
Does anyone know of anywhere that would reliably do this?
33yo male, going on to 34. Hairloss on my dad's side....I have noticed very slow progression of hair loss but have tried to do whatever I can to stop....never really saw a derm since I'm a doc myself and felt embarrassed. Never saw clumps or hair but I can tell the density is slowly going and the temples look thinner. Have been taking dut 1mg daily for almost 5yrs, previously on dut 0.5mg daily for about 3 yrs, and prior on fin 1mg for about 2yrs. Also taking minoxidil 5mg for about 6months (previously on 2.5mg daily for about a year and on topical for maybe 5yrs). I also have been using ketoconazole shampoo 2% about x2-3/week for the last 5 odd years, microneedling 1-2/week, LIIT 2-3/week for 3-4 yrs as well. Recently added oral cetrizine a few times a week, Rose Mary oil/pumpkin seed oil a few times a week as well. Occasionally use topical clobetasol and retinoids as well. Have been taking vitamins for several years too which do contain saw palmetto/vit D/biotin/etc. I'm trying all I can to keep my hair and continue on this regimen until my DHT sensitivity maybe decreases/as I grow older into my 40s. Anyone else in the same boat and suggests anything else I can do short of a hair transplant? I'm very particular about how my hair looks, usually keep it buzzed since I hate seeing any thinning hair. Those who know me have never told me I'm receding etc, but in my mind I know the hair density is slowly going over the years
18M Norwood Scale 3 stage. I have intense hair loss, stage three, should I start Dutasteride right away? And do I have to add minoxidil to the treatment, I don't really care about current hairline. Also, can you share your experiences with Dutasteride, did you have any side effects?
I recently have been trying to style my hair and get it healthy with diet, exercise, and intervention stuff like shower filters, and things alike (let me know in comments other things besides shower filters that help if you can). I use this thing called Cult and King Jelly, and heres the ingreidents list:

I’m a 19 year old male that is balding and trying to combat it. Unfortunately in my country finasteride needs a prescription to obtain, and unfortunately my dermatologist insisted I used Alpha 5 Complidermol products even though I personally disagreed with the choice and thought I should have started finasteride at the time. Unfortunately I am in a poor financial situation and cannot afford to find another dermatologist and obtain a prescription for finasteride and I am stuck using these Alpha 5 Complidermol products. I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with Alpha 5 Complidermol products (spray, shampoo, and pills) and if anyone knows if they are at all effective or if I am just wasting my money as it’s doing almost nothing. Hi everyone, my hair started to thin and started falling out about a year ago. I’m a 32 year old male who had long length hair for 10+ years and never had an issue. I’m ok losing my hair as I know I’m getting older as I just get a cut very short now. The only issue I have is where I am losing my hair on my crown (no where else) it’s sore to touch sometimes but has no inflammation or redness. Is this normal and has anyone else had this? I would ask a family member but I’m the only one in my whole family who has lost hair 😂🤷♂️.
My hair was extremely thick last summer, I essentially hit my peak. I got injured this past fall and about 2 months after began noticing signs of balding/hair loss. Since then, it’s been a down hill roller coaster — my hairline is obviously receding, the volume my hair once had is evidently gone, and most of all I’m losing confidence. I’m thinking about hopping on fin and min, but don’t want to have to take a break from alcohol as I’m in my early years of college. I don’t, however, have any issue with losing some of my libido as I believe my testosterone levels are extremely high and I’m horny all the time. For reference, the thinning in the corners was nonexistent last year. Any guidance or advice would be much appreciated. (Don’t tell me I’m not balding because I’ve already laid the facts out and I most definitely am.
I’m m26 and I’ve noticed in the last few months that my hair line has receded a bit and that I am losing more hair in the shower than I ever used to. I moved to a new apartment about a year ago which has really hard water. I bought a shower filter, but I don’t know if it is working. I have used the same shampoo my whole life (at least since I can remember because it’s what my family bought), Garnier Fructis sleek and shine. It is likely a combination of the hard water and aging, but any remedies or shampoo recommendations to slow or stop the hair loss?
Somehow this post got removed (even though I know he’s balding and was looking for advice) and I was redirected here..
My boyfriend’s hair is thinning, I’ve known for a while but recently I’ve been noticing it might be worse than I thought. Anyway.. he has very long hair, that he keeps tied in a bun and under a hat most of the time - which I think is a big part of the problem.. it might be partly genetic, his uncle went bald too.. my question is, how do I approach it with him? I’d like to offer support and buy him a few products to help, I think he’d want to avoid going bald too but I don’t think he’d do anything about it unless he believes it’ll work.. he is very avoidant of difficult topics and finds it very hard to keep to/form new routines on account of his adhd - another thing is perceived demand avoidance, so idk if I can even ask him to help himself, it has to be his idea..
Tldr - How do I help encourage my boyfriend to take care of his thinning hair if he seems happy ignoring the problem..
I have had hairloss since late 17 years old. I’ve been to multiple dermatologists who have given me many different answers. I had bloodwork done many times (normal results). I have type 1 diabetes, and got diagnosed with thyroid problems last year. But I’ve been losing it way before that. My hairloss is over my entire scalp. Always has been. Hairline is intact. Just constant thinning. Had scalp bioposy, they ruled out mpb and other problems, they assume it’s chronic TE, but yet I have no direction to go in.
I’ve been on oral minoxidil since last year, took finasteride (had very bad sides).. so I stopped. Oddly enough after I stopped taking it I stopped shedding entirely for a couple months. Then it has then started shedding again. My dht levels have always been normal. I’m beginning to feel helpless since I’ve tried almost everything. And I can’t find what’s causing it to shed. I currently take minoxidil, and nutrafol hair vitamin which I stared 3 months ago.
I know it doesn’t look bad in pictures, but I have lost over 40% scalp density from what I used to have. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?? Could it be TE and if so what should I do?
When should i worry about losing hair in the shower? for the past 2 months i’ve been losing a lot and this is a completely new thing for me (i am 19 and never experienced anything like this, not even a single strand 3 months ago and before). My dad is bald so i’m genuinely concerned. Should i be?
After ejaculation my scalp gets sore in the crown area the next morning I even notice hairloss in the same area , this only happens after ejaculation , im on dutasteride which is a dht blocker which makes me wonder how my scalp + hair follicles are still being affected. Someone please help ive been dealing with this since I was a kid , I now realise this is the main factor for my hairloss and have even been practicing no fap for about a year or more now going 3-4 weeks at a time. Everytime I hook up with a girlfriend my hairloss comes back with scalp pain for a few days
Anyone else experience hair loss while losing weight? my doc said it was some "telogen effluvium", don't want to read random google results, who else went through this? how long does it take to recover? I shed like 8-10 pounds recently :/
Hi all, I’m a 33-year-old female with wavy, thin Asian hair. Every time I wake up after wearing a bonnet, I run my hand through my hair and, I kid you not, about 30 hairs come out.
Throughout the day, I’m pretty sure I lose another 30 to 50 hairs just from walking around—some get caught on my back or stuck in my clothes. And any time I run my hand through my hair, 5 to 10 hairs come out. If I do it consecutively, I’ll lose another 2 to 3 hairs each time, and this can go on for up to 10 rounds.
Then, when I wash my hair (I wash it every other day since it gets dirty quickly), I lose around 100 more hairs. I also try to blow-dry my hair with the Dyson when it’s about 70% dry to smooth flyaways, and I lose around 60 to 80 hairs during that as well. If I use my Dyson Airwrap—whether the smoothing brush or the curler—I end up losing another 50 to 80 hairs.
All in all, I’m pretty sure I’m losing at least 300 hairs a day—and closer to 400 on days when I wash, style, or blow dry. I don’t wear high ponytails, I rarely use heat (I only use the Dyson Airstrait about once a week), and I haven’t bleached my hair in over two years.
I had my blood work done, and everything came back pretty normal. My iron is on the lower end (26), but still considered within the normal range. I’ve started taking Feramax 150 mg daily to help with that.
I’ve also lost about 15 lbs since May 19, 2025, from a calorie deficit and using a walking pad 3 to 4 times a week at a speed of 3. On those days, I try to get between 8,000 to 10,000 steps. So I am not sure if this is related?
What the heck is causing my hair loss? My hair has always been thin and prone to breakage since I have PCOS, and I’ve been on Metformin and Marvelon for years to manage it. But this kind of shedding just started in the last month, and it’s honestly freaking me out.
ive been stressing about hairloss for about a year. i couldnt afford to see a dermatologist to know for sure but my gp noticed dermatitis in my hair and prescribed me a lotion. despite that i felt my hair was still rapidly getting worse and i couldnt control my anxiety and insecurities and started on finasteride. ive noticed growth but its only been a month supposedly its supposed to take 3-4 months to notice any changes so i dont know if its the finasteride or my hairs just growing back naturally i still cant afford to see a dermatologist on the public system itll take months to a year and privates over 200 dollars
Hi, I'm 21 and noticed some(imo) worse hair thinning and its doing a number on my mental health. I wanted to ask what I can do to grow the hair back/reverse it. I can't take minoxidil cause i have pets and dont want to endanger them, so any advice would rly be appreciated.
I already take vitamins, dht blockers, and pumpkin seed oil.
Ooh i was thinking about that, may i ask whether u noticed hairgrowth elsewhere than on your scalp? Ik thats a possible side effect, and tbf i wouldnt mind if my so far nonexistent beard started to grow more😅
(24m) So this past year i've noticed that i started receding from the corner of my hairline and some of my friends and my parents have mentioned to me that they think i'm balding. Please let me know what u think
Hi there people, can you please check my post here... I've written the things I wanna ask there... Thanks loads if you read it ;-; please tell me it isn't androgenic alopecia and maybe just something else 🥹
32/M. Had healthy hair almost all of my life. Suddenly a barber said my hair are thinning from top. And I cannot stop thinking about it. I have no known heridatry baldless in the family. The first picture is just 4 months old. Am I cooked? am I cooked?
Background: I have only been on one type of birth control for many years, which is a levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol (Generics of Lessina). Around last November, I switched to drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol (Brand: Lo-Zumandimine ; Generic of Yaz) because my dermatologist recommended for my acne. However, I’ve noticed my hair thinning/falling out for several months now. I didn’t start realizing it until a few months after starting Yaz.
I spoke with my doctor, and told her that I wanted to switch back to my original birth control. The only thing my doctor recommended was to avoid using any synthetic hair products & start taking Nutrafol, but it is pretty pricey. My iron & ferritin levels are normal.
The only hormonal change that I could think of is switching to a different type of birth control, since I’m guessing my body was used to my original birth control. I’ve always had thicker, fuller hair & never seen this much hair falling out. Has anyone experienced this? Is my hair continuously thinning because it doesn’t like Yaz?
I am hoping the hair thinning/loss will stop soon, but I know I won’t see results until 3-6 months when my original birth control kicks in again. Losing hope because it’s extremely noticeable in the back of my head now.
For round about a little over 2 years now my hair is balding. If you would see my curly hair you wouldn’t notice it yet but I know that in round about a couple of months it would slowly start to get more worse.
Sooner or later I will go to turkey and transplant my hair. All my uncles from both sides have hair loss. Tho I still want to do everything I can do, to prevent from getting it worse. I love my hair I cant imagine it without it.
I have heard many options to do. Rosemary Oil. Minoxidil etc. etc. everyone is saying something else, it is kind of an overflow of Information. Thats why I thought of asking here for the overall best advice here.
Could my wash routine also effect this? I have curly hair and wash my hair with the curly method mentioned in curlyhair subreddit.
I'm 28. I've always had really straight, fine, soft hair. But in the past year I feel like i've noticed my hair has way less volume. It feels thinner, yet I see no visible balding anywhere. Am I going insane? Can your hair get thinner without having a bald spot or receding hairline? I'm scared to start using minoxidil for the rest of my life this early. I'm starting to forget what my hair used to feel like, I have no proof it's thinning. Should I ignore it until I see a real difference other than a hunch?
slowly loosing more hair and doesnt seem like its growing back, its thin and i want a solution, its mostly from diffused thinning or genetics i dont know, and i use styling products in my hair (dm me for photos of my hair)
A few months ago I had a false alarm, thinking I have a balding area on my neck and that my hair is falling out due to picking. I went to the dermatologist, but said it's normal that I shed so much, because i have thicker and more hair than average. But still she desribed me some serums. One being brillanton, which has 50mg/ml minoxidil in it (and a different serum which was mixed in the pharm, so I don't know what's in there)
But I heard so many horror stories about minoxidil, that hair falls out more/ you start growing facial hair etc. That I'm not even sure I should use it for my shedding, because it might just make it worse. Downside it was kinda expensive. Should I use it or will I make it worse?
i'm a 16 y/o girl and i've noticed i shed hair more than usual for a few months now, but in the last month it has really intensified to the point where there is hair all over my room, bathroom floor, shower, clothes, etc. and i lose a bunch when i run my fingers through my hair or brush it. i've also noticed my hairline has been receding (i think), especially at my temples when i pull it back. (luckily i have curtain bangs lol). and my hair has def been thinning because i have naturally thick hair but my ponytails have been quite thin (in comparison) recently. i also have been oiling my hair before washing it but hair falls out a lot when i oil it too 😭 it's really been taking a toll on my mental health because i KNOW it's a problem and i love my hair but i would not love to go bald. my mom insists it's because of nutritional deficiencies but i take vitamin gummies and there haven't been any significant changes in my diet or anything. i've been asking her for weeks to schedule an appointment with a derm or something but who knows if she's actually gonna do it. any advice???
Can someone help and let me know if balding or not? Please tell me what I should do, I'm 23 years old and I don't know if this is reversible. THANKS!

All my posts keep getting deleted? Just want to know if a non prescription (5% Minoxidil) with a derma roller can help my hair thinning at the front?
Is it worth trying? Or do I HAVE to go to a Doctor (U.K) to get anything that is worth trying?
I’m willing to shave it all off and start rolling. But is 5% solution from Amazon worth trying?

Anyway.. he has very long hair, that he keeps tied in a bun and under a hat most of the time - which I think is a big part of the problem.. it might be partly genetic, his uncle went bald too.. my question is, how do I approach it with him?

Scalp pain and hairloss after ejaculation
After ejaculation my scalp gets sore in the crown area the next morning I even notice hairloss in the same area , this only happens after ejaculation , im on dutasteride which is a dht blocker which makes me wonder how my scalp + hair follicles are still being affected. Someone please help ive been dealing with this since I was a kid , I now realise this is the main factor for my hairloss and have even been practicing no fap for about a year or more now going 3-4 weeks at a time. Everytime I hook up with a girlfriend my hairloss comes back with scalp pain for a few days

Am i thinning out? I have psoriasis around my neck and scalp so i think that is causing it to thing out but I’m not sure https://www.reddit.com/r/Hairloss/s/pzwAd0O7VN
Thank you everyone!

ive been stressing about hairloss for about a year. i couldnt afford to see a dermatologist to know for sure but my gp noticed dermatitis in my hair and prescribed me a lotion. despite that i felt my hair was still rapidly getting worse and i couldnt control my anxiety and insecurities and started on finasteride. ive noticed growth but its only been a month supposedly its supposed to take 3-4 months to notice any changes so i dont know if its the finasteride or my hairs just growing back naturally i still cant afford to see a dermatologist on the public system itll take months to a year and privates over 200 dollars

Thanks for any advice
Oral Minoxidil is effective, though it has a higher risk of sides than topical. I'm on oral and feel completely fine on it.
Ooh i was thinking about that, may i ask whether u noticed hairgrowth elsewhere than on your scalp? Ik thats a possible side effect, and tbf i wouldnt mind if my so far nonexistent beard started to grow more😅

Any advice or feedback is appreciated!
Is it normal to lose 1-1 strands of hair each time I pass my hand throgh it when it is wet? Its not much but happens everytime I pass my hand
Should I ignore it until I see a real difference other than a hunch?

slowly loosing more hair and doesnt seem like its growing back, its thin and i want a solution, its mostly from diffused thinning or genetics i dont know, and i use styling products in my hair (dm me for photos of my hair)
also i have enver been to a dermatologist
Please give me your insights: https://www.reddit.com/r/DermatologyQuestions/comments/1oquveq/is_this_a_cowlick_or_a_potential_sign_of_hair_loss/
