Don’t forget the UK turning communist, or monarchist and burning the entire world down trying to reconquer its colonies and then forgetting to actually conquer them
Leftists quite like La Marseillaise - they sang a version of it for Lenin at Petrograd station on his return to Russia in 1917. I've no doubt at all that it would continue to be popular in a Communist France.
Socialism already existed during the French Revolution, French Socialism was the ideology that Marx explained and renamed communism (his detailed explanation is communism, he didn’t steal the idea). So it’s the same base.
And let’s not forget that for Marx the French Revolution was meant to end all classes and establish the socialist/communist utopia but was unfortunately interrupted by the revolutionary bourgeoisie.
Yes but I use the term utopia because it’s a goal to reach and for now no one has ever reached it (because of external military intervention, dictators and plenty of others external reasons)

That’s just the Marseillaise, which is much older than communism. So why is it being used to represent a communist France?

It's not an "utopia" because the whole point of Marxism is that it's actually possible.

Left-wing nationalism
I've also seen them turn communist in late game historical. Were they eeally that close to becoming communist in real life?
Yeah, they were the main political force after the war but it eroded with time and they were countered with coalitions.
