Preparation H
The fact that both Alpha and Omega are trying not to get shot themselves buys Harold a bit more time as he flies up the fire escape and then forces a window open.
There is a holographic woman in there that screams in terror. Giving away his position. He immediately gets out drops a level and forced the next window down before closing it behind him. He stands to the side of the window in the false kitchen. The door opens on the other side and he points his shotgun at the door and the holographic man freezes. Harold makes a shushing motion and the man backs off.
The sound of Alpha and Omega rushing the area and climbing up behind him and after a moment he opens the window and leans out to fire directly up at them both. They both shift and dodge the buckshot of the first round before Harold blasts again and again. Alpha dives into the open window as Omega jukes to the side and Harold follows him before firing again. Omega is too mobile to easily hit and then Harold ducks back in to dodge a stream of bullets from Alpha leaning back out with his rifle ready.
He moves through the kitchen, wrenches the door open. The man shouts in shock and Harold opens doors until he finds the hallway and leaves the apartment. Rushing down the hall he quickly finds the stairs and closes it quietly behind him. He takes control of his breathing and takes his pistol out from between his teeth and works his jaw a little. He shifts his grip on the weapons. The shotgun is now primarily held in his left hand and he’ll use his right arm to support it. But he can be more precise with the pistol and...
He senses danger, movement and ducks low before charging to the side to unbalance Omega who had been sweeping to the side after tackling the door open. Without the warning he would have been gotten. With it he’s under the weapon and he fires off a shot into Omega’s stomach. It hits armour, but the danger sense tells him he’s going to get gone if he doesn’t adjust his aim and...
His next two shots slip between the plating and Omega is forced back before Harold takes a final, higher up shot and gets him in the face.
The holodeck has red panels appear around him and he sighs.
“So the Primal did give you some supernatural sense. Very interesting.” Omega notes calmly. Then the stairway that Harold is out of detonates as Alpha is still up, moving and very, very grenade happy.
Then another drops and Harold’s instincts scream. He dives into the hall and the cooked frag grenade goes off and sends deadly shards through the area. As he’s already out Omega is not in danger and the simulation treats him like he’s not there so the wall behind him gets some shards embedded into it.
He rises up and puts his back to the wall. Alpha is coming, and he has a mostly dry pistol and a half dry shotgun. He needs to get clever.
He pulls out a grenade, levers it between his foot and the wall, and pulls the pin. The grenade is primed and will go off seconds after he moves his left foot now. He then reloads the pistol and shotgun, before holstering the pistol and preparing himself. He has to make the trap look like a failed ambush.
There is a hint of something else as Alpha round the corner and Harold jumps back with a blast from his shotgun forcing Alpha low. Harold rolls and gets more distance and Alpha starts around the corner, stops and ducks back to use the wall for cover from the incendiary. Seconds later there is a sensation of danger and Harold shoots despite the thick smoke of the burnt carpet.
Harold then throws a smoke grenade and the area becomes shrouded in fog.
“Forcing me to compete with that Primal Blessing? Smart.” Alpha’s voice comes from in the hallway to the right, but there is a sensation of danger to the left Harold fires that way and then throws himself back to avoid a hail of gunfire. The left explodes. The danger was a grenade. Alpha is already playing with his senses.
Harold thinks about the sheer level of threat Alpha is and... he almost sees it. Alpha practically lights up and Harold takes a shot. Alpha tries to dodge the point blank, and nearly does. But the simulation ends and Alpha is covered in red screens.
“You saw through the smoke.” Alpha says as Herbert rushes back up.
“What happened? The blast from the grenade got me.” Herbret says.
“What happened is that your little brother’s blessing from the Primal is no joke. And he got himself enough breathing room to really start getting creative.” Omega says. “I mean really? Using your own foot as a tripwire for a grenade trap?”
“If you can control when and where the boom is then you can control where your enemy is.” Harold says evenly.
“Yes, it’s clear you both make heavy use of Axiom and... we can’t really know what your blessing counts as. Is it this Other Direction we’ve heard about?” Omega asks.
“Maybe? But it was more like... they were complimenting each other? Letting me process and properly understand the information I get with the weird eyes.” Harold says pointing to his blank white eyeballs.
“Interesting. Something to poke at.” Alpha states. “Partially breaks the test though, having supernatural elements assist in a test of pure skill.”
“Well, if it’s genetic. Something in the family or something learned, is it really a disqualifying element?” Herbert asks.
“Hmm... It needs to be tested. Holodeck! Nighttime test! Alpha and I are to be given night vision equipment. Deny it to the testies.
“The testies?”
“Yeah, delicate, in need of safe handling so they don’t get hurt...”
“You are working overtime to make me want to shoot you.” Harold says and Alpha smirks.
“Simulation begin! Nighttime assault, minimal equipment.” Alpha says and the lights go out entirely.
The men and women watching in Intelligence observe as the screen goes black and white instead.
“Any rules or restrictions?”
“Still no Axiom. This is testing the unusual eyes you have.” Alpha’s voice echoes out of the void. Both Harold and Herbert nod as they examine the area. Urban again. But in the midst of a blackout on an overcast night. Meaning the only source of light is extremely muted. Not total darkness.
“We’ll have to explain after.” Harold says as they both walk behind a car and crouch down while going over what weapons and supplies they were allowed for this round.
“Why did it give you the sniper rifle?” Herbert asks as Harold hands over the parts that Herbert starts assembling.
“And why do you have the grenade launcher?” Harold asks as he starts reaching into Herbert’s own pouches.
“Clearly, we need to have a talk with them about what kind of men we are.” Herbert notes as he slots the magazine in place.
“Evidently. I’ll flush them out.” Harold says as he’s handed an extra magazine of grenades and he then lets Herbert dig through his pockets for the extra magazines for the sniper rifle. “Try not to laugh too much.”
“We can hear you.” Omega calls out.
“And we can see you.” Harold replies before miming zipping his lips and Herbert points up to a rooftop and Harold nods.
They slip away and Herbert starts climbing upwards. Using his lighter weight to use paths that Harold simply can’t and he makes it to the fifth story up in mere moments. He then points to the right side of the building and Harold stars moving around to find the fire escape on that side. He climbs up as quietly as he can. In near total silence he reaches the top and Herbert waves him over before pointing into the distance.
They both see two small points of light searching the areas they’re in. Herbert points to the left one and Harold nods before dashing and jumping from one rooftop to another. There is a slight amount of noise as Herbert starts setting up his sniper rifle and taking position at the corner of the building. Fully intending to use the gaps between buildings as his firing lines.
And Harold intends to lead them there.
Herbert steadies his breathing and keeps things calm. Harold, Alpha and Omega are all giving out light for lack of a better term. But it’s less actual light and more... clarity? Illumination? It’s not acting like light should, but can only be light because it’s illuminating things.
Other Direction bullshit is bullshit.
“The report on this is going to be more a pain in the ass than a cactus toilet.” Herbert mutters to himself as he watches Harold grow closer to one of the points of illumination and there is the sound of an explosion. The illumination starts moving fast. All three of them do and the one he knows is Harold starts leading them their way.
They cross into the alleyway and into his line of fire. But before he can take the shot both of them clearly figure out the trap and split apart to get cover behind the buildings. Harold launches another grenade and rather than getting into the danger zone both of them split in opposite directions, forcing Harold to make a choice.
His choice is to turn and wave at Herbert. Herbert waves back and points to the left one before pointing to himself and to another rooftop nearby. Harold rushes off after the left target and Herbert picks up the rifle to strap it onto his back and slot things back into place so he can move down the fire escape as fast as he can. He races across the street, climbs up a pipe and is panting but otherwise perfectly fine as he starts setting up the rifle again. There had been two explosions as he had moved and from the higher vantage point Herbert can see where Harold and the one he was chasing was engaging in a dance as they both tried to control the movements of the other. A bit of gunfire to try and get Harold to duck one way or another, and a responding grenade to try and spook his target.
But both men clearly have nerves that would trip a metal detector and neither one wants to give the other any ground. Herbert scans around and he can see that the other source of light is quickly moving around and clearly trying to find him in a spiral search pattern.
He positions his rifle to go for the searching target. He knows Harold will be alright for now. He watches and gets into place to take a clean shot as his target is moving and begins to focus. Closer and closer until...
The target abruptly turns around and heads back the other way.
“The fuck?” Herbert notes. Then his eyes widen. He picks up the rifle and starts moving while slinging it onto his back. He jumps as hard as he can and makes it to the fire escape two levels down with a massive clang. The rifle is jostled and begins strangling him as he pulls himself up and then adjusts it to get his breath back before climbing hard.
He makes it to the rooftop and barely has time to lie down beneath the level of the rim when he hears the slightest footsteps.
Alpha and Omega aren’t just fast, vicious and efficient. They’re fucking quiet.
Herbert pokes his head up to find that Omega is the one currently prowling around the buildings like a shark that smelled blood. The sniper rifle is not meant for a range like this. He sets it down and draws a pistol. Keeping low and using the not-illumination illumination to track the soldier as he climbs up and then listening as he hears the man shuffling around the roof ever so. The tiny crunches of gravel under boot. Nothing spectacular, nothing special. Then three quick steps and Omega lands on the lip of the building.
Herbert shoots his entire magazine into the man from four meters distance. All but two bullets crash into Omega’s armour. The remaining two bullets hit the neck and side of the head. Red panels appear. Omega is down.
“Natural and very effective night vision. I’d have done horrible, horrible things for that kind of visual prowess ten years ago.” Omega notes.
“Maybe gene splicing or a retro virus can pass it?” Herbert asks as he swaps magazines on the empty pistol and racks the slide. He then holsters it again and picks up the sniper rifle. The small war between Alpha and Harold is ongoing and he would like to have his own say.
“I’m glad to see you’re picking up after the hard time the first two rounds gave you. First was unfair and the second was unlucky.” Omega notes as Herbert checks the rifle.
“Thanks. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to shoot your buddy now.”
“Go right the fuck ahead kid.” Omega says.

Some times things are coming to an End. When hope is at the Bottom. When you're up Shit creek without a paddle. When it's all gone to Crap. Sometimes you need a more skillful touch. Sometimes you need to heal the sores. Sometimes Harriett, Herbert and Harold together are needed. To make any enemy the Butt of the jokes and put their asses in a vice.
Character Introduction Chapters: Herbert Harriett Harold
I am officially baffled. I can run Assassins Creed Odyssey on my computer but not Unity or Syndicate? The hell is going on?
Oh and we're getting a good, good, GOOD look at Alpha and Omega and all the ways they're scary. Then can get up to you at full sprint, in full kit and quiet enough for it to count as stealth. They also have really, really good instinct for when someone's trying to fuck with them and understand how, why and when to start turning it around.
Anyways, if anyone has any advice for how to run these two more. I want them basically good enough, in a way that can be seen, to justify the reputation. And I want to make sure I capture it. But still have ways for them to be realistically beaten when they are. They're not gods of war. But they're the type of people to make a god of war sit up and pay attention.

Biggest problem with making them genuinely OP is that they fight against someone who also is genuinely OP due to the Primal Gift and the training the Dauntless recruits all recieved, means Alpha and Omega run against the training they themself created PLUS the Primal Gift, the fact they won the first round so clearly shows is quite well, the second round they won against Herbert.
However, Harold won probably because of the Primal Gift, and now, they fight against the Other Side Eyes.
If i interpret your description correctly, the Jameson eyes effectively mean both night vision AND a wall hack, no matter HOW OP Alpha and Omega are suppposed to be, that is a TALL order.
My writing skills are more about sentence construction and vocabulary, you are way ahead of me on story telling and i do not know how to make someone a clearly OP super soldier in a realistic sense.
Key should be Alpha´s and Omega´s superior experience, because as good a fighter as the Jamesons are, the others have beaten them by DECADES of actual combat experience.
Sorry, i cannot help any better.
Remember they also have training from Sir Phillip, and have been honing themselves against ridiculous shit, their roots run deep.
That training was mostly about Intelligence, not combat.
Infiltration, assassination, deception, analysis, methodology.
Sir Philip taught them a LOT, but not about combat, they already had that.
Alpha and Omega test their combat skills, because that´s what they excell in.

honestly, the only idea i got for making AnO scarier realisitcly is to pull the "i taught you everything you now, not everything i know."
I don't know if it can make them better, but why not have them take a "Grand Tour" of the Galaxy? Kind of an "Innocents Abroad". Maybe the Hollow Order, or whatever that group of Tret superassassins is called challenges them to a series of duels on various worlds of the galaxy. Along the way, the two to them pick up a group of followers.
There is a Star Trek quote that comes to mind "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose." The Primal Blessing seems to be, at least at this stage in his use of it, a matter of split second timing. How do you kill someone who can see 10 seconds into the future? Use a poison that takes 12 second to take effect. Knowing there is danger doesn't help if there is no way to avoid it. Slow, methodical, elimination of options until there is no room for manuever.
Have the video leaked or otherwise end up in the possession of an empty hands master that decides they need to test themselves against Alpha and Omega. You know the kind that doesn't take no or not interested for an answer. That is one option. Another is having them check up on Sir Phillip and have that be the point when the Empire decides that they want their planet back, only they don't know about the guests.
Just some options. Or some idiot tries to figure out how to clone one of those two, if not both. I mean there is a lot there for the Muses to play with.
I've found that the best way to convey just how utterly insane a 'peak of physical' character is, is to have them face a 'normal mortal.' Think of it like the olympics You watch a guy run 400m in something like 40 seconds. Your brain can't really compute that. yeah, sure it's fast, but you've got no concept of 'how' fast. Or like those competitions for glass blowing or knife making that were on the TV a bunch a few years ago. The normal man is so far from that that they have no concept of how they stack up until they try it.
Sure, a real challenge is a delight to read and probably to write, however when all parties are at nigh superhuman levels, lots of small things are assumed, lost or simply not done that a normal person wouldn't get. But sometimes, just to remind readers, you need some stupid mook to throw themselves on the altar of badassery to explain just how bonkers someone is.
I've got 0 idea who's in the obs deck, But a visitor, or newer member of undaunted going 'that is clearly axiom. I can do that' and then getting utterly blasted when they try to do it (maybe even with axiom) give a good idea of how far out of the spectra of normal it is. Just like after watching some madlad do a sub 4 minute mile and then trying it yourself and throwing up after managing it in 8 or so.
Hostage rescue/ asset retrieval. The brothers are trying to get it, the agents are trying to destroy/kill it. Bonus would be Harriet is the hostage.
If Slade Wilson or Frank Castle could do it, so can Alpha and Omega. That is my advice.
Defensive objective: Have Alpha and Omega defending a position and Harold and Herbert have to defeat them and or complete the objective. This is a contrast to the first combat scenarios showing Harold and Herbert turning the tables when on the defensive maybe.
Experience gap: Maybe have Alpha and Omega have an edge in experience over Herbert and Harold. Two areas that come to mind are equipment experience and tactics experience. Maybe there is a one time fluke that happens with the equipment that catches Harold off guard and Omega takes advantage of it to take him out, putting Herbert in the one vs two. Or maybe Alpha and Omega are a half step behind in communication/combined instincts of a man and his clone but there are a half step more experienced in working as a two man team compared to Herbert as an infiltrator and Harold as a champion fighter/duelist.
Injured combat: In a combat scenario with axiom usage, Harold might have upper hand but Alpha is more used to fighting injured which allows him to take advantage of an opening when Harold is using Axiom to makeup for an injury where as Alpha makes an immediate adjustment with his injury instead of crutching on axiom to fix it.
Just shower thoughts. Feel free to ignore.
This now has me convinced to just ignore Harold and Jerry's fight. Jerry would have got his ass kicked. I was mostly ignoring it anyway because kam just didn't write wu correctly but it isn't his character so I get it. I'm bummed at the holiday season because both of you are taking days off and this is a terrible and wonderful addiction of mine
Harold was still pretty fresh from literally rebuilding himself, the primal's gift hadn't fully settled yet, and he hadn't opened himself forcibly to the other direction with the shenanigans in the nebula, and the bout was completely axiom purged so I'd argue it's still valid. Against current Harold unaugmented? Almost certainly Jerry's going down. Jerry's good, but he's still Human.
WELP, time to pull out my list of ttrpg skills.
We have:
Acrobatics (somersaults, tumbling),
Athletics (running, jumping swimming),
Autohypnosis (self-hypnotize to ignore pain),
Concentration
Craft (make poisons, medicines, traps, guns, grenades, with materials on hand)
Deception (bluff, misdirection, and send secret messages)
Disable Device
Disguise (convincingly pretend to be someone else)
Escape Artist
Handle Animal (don't think this will be relevant now but maybe later)
Heal (emergency triage mid-combat to stop bleeding, poison)
Intimidation (scare someone at the perfect moment to ruin their aim)
Intuition (know when someone's fucking with you)
Knowledge (know strengths and weaknesses of enemies beforehand)
Perception (see when someone's fucking with you)
Stealth (move unseen and unheard)
I think you've already checked off most of these skills, but feel free to go over the list to find anything you missed.
I think Alpha and Omega should be on the way to becoming like Cohen the Barbarian and his Silver Horde. the embodiment of "Beware an old man in a profession were one usually dies young". there should be an efficiency in action, each act habitually and without thought leads to the next. also an economy in action. it takes less actions to accomplish they same result. the ways and means of combat should be like the actions of a master crafter or tradesmen to these two, things the young have to remember or think about are just done as habit and reflex at this level.
was going to get this up earlier, but crash asleep before could. love this story and Merry Christmas
There's a chance that Syndicate or Unity are poorly programmed, while Odyssey is "better," for lack of a better word. But, they're all UbiShit titles, so one having good programming doesn't make sense... What issues are you seeing? Will it not launch, is it crashing, etc etc.
Hello again
Without the the warning he would have gotten … i assume you meant to add something like “killed” or disqualified or something
Also fun fact humans do actually give off light, not enough that a human eye could detect unaided but we still are technically bioluminescent because of the various reactions that keep us alive
We also have tiny invisible stripes!
Our stripes are even demographically based. Some people have it come out more blocky or spiral like than others. It all depends on skin type. Edit: He would have BEEN gotten. Your eyes skipped a word.
My eyes did indeed skip a word lol, i blame old age XP
Huh i thought the stripes partially changed based on mood/thoughts, and each pattern is completely unique like a finger print
I want to be a spiral type! How do i find out?
Well, we give off UV radiation and our natural radioactive radiation, though the latter one would disappear in the environmental background "noice", plus, human hearts are actually damn loud, our brain just doesn´t percieve them because it filters them out.
Lotta things our brain does for us tbh
For example it automatically limits our strength so that whenever we move we aren’t ripping our muscles off our bones
And adrenaline can override that to the point where our muscles break the bones they are attached to. usually doesn't.
Adrenaline supercharges it tbh
I remember reading a story years ago where a toddler lifts a flaming car weighing 1 ton off of his sibling. Shattering his jaw and breaking teeth from how hard he was clenching. As well as suffering from boken spine, legs, and pretty much every bone being broken except maybe the skull as well as severe nerve damage
Not sure how true that story actually is since i only vaguely remember it from years ago
Yup, not to mention our nerve system runs on electricity, means we are technically magnetic as well, though it´s so low that there is currently no way to make it visually viable outside of labs.
The magnetism is made a bit stronger because of the iron in our blood
“Go right the fuck ahead” 😂😂😂 I was cackling like a hyena when I read that at the end. Perfect ending and I love it lmao
Another great chapter
I enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading more
Great job wordsmith
I am First maybe?
Herbret-> Herbert Harold stars -> starts starts leading them their way-> starts leading them toward Herbert's kill zone.
I think you might have replied to the wrong person lol
But you have to admire his dedication XD
Thats true lol
Sometimes the plain "comment" icon replies instead of leaves a base comment. I haven't figured out why.
Then I have to copy, comment, delete.
Occasionally I miss a step, so I must not be THAT dedicated.
;)
I haven’t noticed that particular one tbh, but i have noticed that sometimes when i reply to someone replying to something ive previously said, whatever was previously said is copied into the text box and i have to delete it all from the text box before continuing the conversation
Reddit is such a wonky site -.-
Indeed
I mean, mixing grenades vs sniper is such a basic personality trait. Perhaps Alpha and Omega are not as observant as we thought :}
They're actively screwing with both of them.
I´m just surprised they haven´t put any funny prices on the equipment the computer gives the Jamesons XD
Knives would be standard in the scenario, so that would not be unusual, but maybe they find out the scabbards have their names stitched on... ?
I think the biggest thing thats going to come out of this is alpha and omega happy to have people they can actually train to their level/friends to keep them sharp themselves.
HI KYLEEEEEEEEEEEE
HELLO KIMIKOBEAN!!
these four are peak when do they get a collab episode
You are reading one right now... ?
But i get your point, though if there ever was an opponent on Centris that could justify these four getting send out together, shit REALLY has hit the fan.

Hello there!

UTR!
This is the way!
Excellent chapter Kyle, thank you.
spreading it with a retro virus, even if temporary would be a powerful tool even if not everyone could utilize it.
or maybe something like a brand or totem made of other direction? though that might come with consequences and if it does could it be used as a lure? and what might that draw out?
Great chapter.

He immediately gets out, drops a level and forced the next window down before
Finally Alpha and Omega got some character
They are John Clark and Domingo "Ding" Chavez from the Clancy novels haha.
Also the undaunted have to get them of centris so they can Shine.. the upcoming operation against the vish could be a Stage for them.
