The only wildcard is whether Carter would do even better among white southerners than 1976, though black southerners may vote for Lincoln at higher % than Dwight Eisenhower in 1956. Anderson doesn’t run either with Lincoln as the nominee, so I can actually see a 50 state and DC sweep for 1980.
Whole lot of effort would be spent trying to get Lincoln to stop using the n-word in casual conversation. And that encouraging Black people to ship off to Liberia was not an acceptable policy to promote.
I mean Lincoln himself abandoned the Liberia idea by the time of his death and began to speak more of integration of freed slaves into society as equal citizens.
Yeah but the comment still misrepresents it. Lincoln like any other politician lied about his belief regarding civil rights. As the issue started to switch, it’s likely he shifted more towards his real beliefs regarding integration.
Except I’m not Southern and not a lost-causer. Just recognizing the fact that I guy who lived in the early to mid 1800s is probably not gonna fare well in the political climate following the Civil Rights Era.
Abandoned it because it wasn't practical, not because he changed his mind. Right before he died he was still saying that whites were superior but did say that the "smartest blacks" should be allowed to vote.
Dubious at best. Deep south would have Lincoln assassinated (or try) within 30 days, and if anything the presence of the great emancipator would harden their resolve to go with Reagan.
Moreover, Lincoln’s presence would draw off a sizable chunk of Democratic voters into a 3rd party run, which could easily throw the vote to Reagan anyway.
The term limit amendment only applied to presidents from then out, so for example Harry Truman could have still run for as many terms as he wanted. Dreams alive!
Good ending!
that would be fascinating to see, especially given what the republican party has it's base in today

Can H.W. still be his VP? I would like that
I think he's too conservative, maybe Rockefeller
rockefeller died in 1979
Bring him back from the dead too
Then maybe he'd bring back Hamlin

Yeah this comment reeks of Southern Bourbon lost-causer.
Lincoln’s more racist than Reagan. It’s a fact.

There is only one politician from Lincoln’s time I’d say would do well in the latter part of the 20th Century, especially on civil rights.
That would be Thaddeus Stevens.
What about Benjamin Wade, he was more radical than any of them.
I stand corrected then

The good ending
REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS BEEN SAVED. REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT OBAMA IS INEVITABLE
Timeline restored

I doubt Lincoln would actually win the primaries, but I do think he would be a frontrunner due to being the first Republican president, so I made this
Lincoln doing a dub for the black community twice if he did
Impossible, he already served in 2 terms
Well, it's a different life of his, so maybe it doesn't count
