A domestic violence incident at a home in Grover, Wyoming, on Tuesday left a man dead and an 8-year-old child with a gunshot wound, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported in a Thursday statement.

Deputies responded to a 911 call that evening reporting a domestic violence incident at a home on Meadowlark Lane in the rural western Wyoming community, the sheriff’s office reports.

The time of the call wasn’t in the report and messages left for Lincoln County Sheriff Shane Johnson weren’t returned by publication time.

It also is unclear whether the 911 call originated from the home or elsewhere.

When they arrived, deputies contacted who the sheriff’s office describes a “an adult female victim and her four children after they fled the home.”

The report goes on to say an 8-year-old “had sustained a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Star Valley Health, where she was treated and released.”

Whether the 8-year-old was one of the four children who fled the home or another child who may have been at the home isn’t clear in the report.

It also doesn’t indicate how many shots were fired or from what type of weapon.

Going In

After securing the woman and children, deputies were informed that the suspect in the domestic violence call, Chazz Lilly, 40, was still inside the home and possibly armed.

Deputies, along with help from the Wyoming Highway Patrol and Afton Police Department, “Secured the area and made repeated efforts to communicate with Lilly,” the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports.

“After receiving no response, deputies entered the home and located Mr. Lilly deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury,” the report says. “No deputies or additional civilians were harmed.”

A possible motive for the shooting, or if the 8-year-old was intentionally shot, also wasn’t known as of publication time.

The sheriff’s office says an investigation continues and that “no other information will be released at this time.”
