WDSU REPORTER ALYSSA GOMEZ JUST SPOKE TO THE SHERIFF ABOUT THE VIOLENCE. ALYSSA, WHAT DID HE HAVE TO SAY? YEAH. TRAVIS, THE SHERIFF SAID THAT THIS ALL STEMMED FROM AN ILLEGAL GUN SALE. AND THAT SHOOTING HAPPENED AROUND 7:00 LAST NIGHT AT THIS ABANDONED BUILDING RIGHT NEXT TO THIS VACANT HOME. AND JUST A FEW MINUTES AGO, INVESTIGATORS WRAPPED UP LOOKING FOR ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE. THE SHERIFF SAYS THAT THEY’VE SPOKEN TO SOME WITNESSES, BUT ARE STILL WORKING ON TRACKING DOWN MORE THAT HAD FLED THE SCENE. NOW, AT THIS TIME, TWO PEOPLE THAT WERE SHOT ARE STILL IN THE HOSPITAL AND EXPECTED TO SURVIVE. BUT AS TREVOR MENTIONED, THE 16 YEAR-OLD IS DEAD. THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SAINT JOHN PUBLIC SCHOOLS SAYS THAT ALL THREE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE SHOOTING ARE STUDENTS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IN SAINT JOHN PARISH. I’VE SEEN YOUNG MEN, PREARRANGED GUN SALES THAT DID NOT GO VERY WELL, AND SOME OF THEM HAVE TURNED LETHAL. IT’S TRAGIC. I MEAN, IT’S RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS AT THAT AS WELL. HERE WE ARE.
