I've had this kit weathered for a long time now, and it looked pretty good to me since it was my first, but after that huge learning experience, it began to look too overdone, and some of the damage made no sense.
I’m waiting for the MG to come into my local hobby shop(it’s been 6 months on back order but the guys so nice I refuse to cancel my prepay).
I have the vidar mg and I’m gonna battle damage both and do a diorama. This is exactly how I want my Barbados to look. It’s fantastic. Congratulations.
Thank you! I want the mg Vidar so bad! And im doing a diorama as well! Wall art of Barbie busting through a wall :) first diorama so im nervous but this was my first battle damage/weather and im happy w it so keeping that energy
It's not bad and that weapon damage on the leg looks amazing. Next time I'd focus on the story more (why are parts, damaged, used, dirty, rusty etc) - like feet would be muddier than shoulders. And also scale, a piece of chipped paint the size of your thumb would look tiny on a piece of armour this size.
I think it looks great personally. If you put it in a scene with a lot of dirt or soil I bet it would really positively contextualize the weathering colors.
A bit overdone on the mud. Always gotta remember its 1:100 scale, unless it did a belly flop at the bottom of a recently emptied dam there won't be a mud pit big enough to produce that much mud.
I understand what you're going thru, dude. Although, my goal was to make mine look like my barb has gone through a long journey thru the desert. So if you keep telling yourself "this barb has been through a lot of battle" suddenly your weathering makes sense.
I think less is more when it comes to weathering. Without the scale of the dings and scratches, it will look like a dirty toy. This would’ve a great candidate to practice on.
Where’s everyone getting their MG Barbies from :’) I have lupus waiting to be built, but having lupus made me rewatch IBO and makes me want vanilla MG barbatos. I got the HG just to scratch my itch
i mean barb to me is two things really clean or god damn dirty no in between boi has a habit of losing limbs on fight gets fixed and all shiny and then rinse and repeat lol
You're the only one that can decide that since it's your display piece. Someone on here turned a Talgeese into a literal goose.
If you now feel it's overdone, that might just mean that your tastes have changed or refined, which you should feel good about because that's generally a sign of growth. Rather than simply criticize your past work, use the opportunity to acknowledge how much you've improved.
It’s further than I would have gone but I don’t think that means anything honestly. Every time you start doing things like weathering a kit, you are taking the out of box build and turning it into something completely unique, and that is pretty cool imo. Yours is the only Barbatos in the whole world that looks like this.
I mean if you were going for a completely destroyed and out of commission barbatos it is kinda good
Honestly I didn't know what I wanted to go for at the time, but that's definitely a better way to look at it!
Is this Barbatos post-Calamity War before being salvaged and used as a power source?
Hey me too!

He’s gonna be standing over the vidar with his mace firmly lodged into the vidar chests looking like this in the snow.
I mean, you could say it's over-done, but that's really good for a first, imo.
My first was like, unpainted, nibs sticking out and parts missing (but cut me some slack because I was in grade school lol).
I'd keep it like that. It's a display worthy first-piece.
It does look overdone to me

If you do a diorama of it coming outta rubble from a fallen building it would make a lot more sense, but alone it looks over done imo
Honestly, I dig it. Def messed up, but not in the way you were thinking.
Hmm bit overdone. Too me its less battle damaged, more left in the attic for several years.
Ima be honest imo a lil
My definition of mess it up is :
not clean. Thus, your Barbatos is literally messed up
If they made a MG Graze Ein, this would work so well with it for a season 1 final battle dioramas between the 2.
Other than that thought, it really is weathered nicely
White still looks too white, but otherwise I'd say looks good for very damaged.
Looks a lot like the old battle-scarred MSiA figures
I think it looks great personally. If you put it in a scene with a lot of dirt or soil I bet it would really positively contextualize the weathering colors.
I like it.
I feel like the damage is a bit too consistent across the whole kit if you get what I mean
It looks a bit more abandoned to rot than fresh out of a battle but I dig the look and it gave you a great testbed to try out all kinds of weathering.
You could always create a diorama to recontextualise the damage. Maybe it just walked out of a sandstorm or collapsed next to some ruins.
Post war Barbatos? Nah Post SEA flood Barbatos
A bit overdone on the mud. Always gotta remember its 1:100 scale, unless it did a belly flop at the bottom of a recently emptied dam there won't be a mud pit big enough to produce that much mud.
I like it. Barbatos rewards weathering IMO.
Looks good to me. Seems lore accurate enough with how much dirt gets throw in the air when mobile suits are fighting on Mars.
Was..was it up your butt?
There’s no such thing as over done when it comes to weathering you did amazing

I mean this was my masterpiece did i over do it yes. You did good with your details so it can be overdone

Ol Barbs always needs some level of damage.
Yep... Too overdone... Lore accurate though since barbatos is almost always eating dirt
everyone do that eventually
Where’s everyone getting their MG Barbies from :’) I have lupus waiting to be built, but having lupus made me rewatch IBO and makes me want vanilla MG barbatos. I got the HG just to scratch my itch
You can abuse it more...
something like this

Dang that reminds me of the one i overdid. I guess a little weathering on white kits goes a long way
I dunno I like the look
Niceee

Reminds me of mine. Guess a lil weathering goes a long way on mainly white kits
I don't think you ruined it, I think you just had your right of passage overweather job. Everyone does it atleast once.
He’s definitely been through the wringer and then some.
Nah. Looks like Barbie’s been through it.
Looks like it survived a house fire, or if it was digging against Burning Gundam, regardless it looks cool

You didn't it looks cool think of things you can add to make the damage make sense i guess it could be a tiny cow hitting it idk lol it's cool to me
I like it, mine are sharted a bit too much too and I like them
