  • If you're gonna tell me in 1.X that this was a new map, I would believe it

At first I thought this was a Miliastra thing because of all the recycled old Genshin assets lol.

A new map nowadays would be a bit higher quality in environmental design I think.

Same, I thought like "since when does tencent develop in-miliastra?"

    谁说这不是米利亚斯特拉(Miliastra)的东西,他们只是把它包装成一款“新”游戏来兜售?

Something I've always found funny is that a lot of people still use the "GenShiN cOpiEd BOTW" argument, yet there are games like this that straight up looks like they stole assets from genshin and they face less criticism

For me the reason I checked out Genshin when it first launched was because of it being compared to BOTW.

    That's also me

    • Anime BoTW
    • Open world
    • Multiple elements
    • On PHONE
    • FREE???

Let's check out. 5 years later, I'm still here

Those folk tried to bring down Genshin, instead they advertise Genshin for free. Any bad publicity is good publicity

They really "ugh, look at this anime version of your favourite game f2p and on multiple platforms" to fans who "recently" learned about the sequel to their favorite game and are desperately waiting for it. (BotW2 teaser was in 2019, so 1 year before Genshin release, I was starving for something like BotW at the time)

    讽刺的是,这个子版块和扭蛋游戏圈里很多人不断地贬低其他游戏,同时也给它们提供了免费宣传?

lol same!! Your list is literally why i picked up the game

At first i tried it on my phone thinking its probably too good to be true and will probably be really clunky. Then half an hour later im downloading it on my computer after realizing its a legit full fledged game. And 5 years later im still here too lol

Same here! My friend introduced it as a botw clone and that's how I got hooked (I adored botw and had just replayed the game over lockdown), people say it like it was a bad thing meanwhile its the main hook that got me to try it.

Me too. But the mechanics and the style are way different. I'd say 'strongly inspired' is the term.

Even though everyone and even Genshin is fully aware that their game was inspired by BoTW, even BoTW helped Genshin, so I don't know if that argument is really effective though, the most accurate now is that the current Open world games are a straight copy to Genshin, since they also copied the Gacha

I'm convinced that was a failed smear campaign (along with the information stealing allegations) by western game companies probably Tencent (edited after some realization) that fear Genshin's rapidly growing success.

Which then eventually got a good portion of actual people agreeing anyway, mostly the self-proclaimed 'hardcore' and 'authentic' gamers that 'love' gaming.

It's not western, it's straight up Tencent because it's not so long after hoyo refuses to be bought by tencent

No wonder I felt a familiar pattern when WuWa attacks Genshin, by comparing the quality of their game to Genshin, this is just like Honor of Kings attacking Mobile Legends, saying HOK skins and in game quality is better than ML, Tencent is known to attack successful games

IIRC the early UI also looked MUCH more similar to BotW's.

The game during the Alpha days was a much different beast than what it was in 1.0.

It was definitely inteded by the marketing team as the hook, with the gacha aspects and character interactions being the thing that reels people in back in 1.X.

Tbf wuwa copied so much from genshin but the community seems to believe that genshin copied botw and wuwa innovated on genshin, wuwa wouldn't even exist if not for genshin

They even copied Hoyo’s EULA that included the word “mihoyo” 😅

Wait, what? For real? That's hilarious.

IIRC it was for "their hoyolab" app for PGR.

Also WuWa also tried this with Hoyo's previous game, Honkai Impact 3rd with Punishing Gray Raven.

Kuro basically did the same tactic, twice. By Basically see the flaws of the game (example Genshin's issue with movement verticality and stamina restrictions) and just work on there.

Yeah, even if they use" Genshin copied BoTW " as their argument, but what about the current Open World games, knowing that the current Open world games like TOF legends of Neverland and WuWa copied Genshin, not just the open world, but the Gacha too

And environmental design which is quite big is not one of them.

1.x patch was very clearly at least massively inspired by botw. To a degree, that I (not a lawyer obviously) would have found Nintendo would have been right to sue them over. How Genshin handled lots of things felt extremely like a BOTW copy with a gacha system replacing Link.

But Genshin has added so much stuff, so many new mechanics and gameplay elements over the years, that comparing todays Genshin with BOTW is just stupid. Genshin evolved into a game that can proudly stand on its own and has its own points of criticisms that have nothing to do with BOTW anymore.

As someone who played BOTW and only started playing Genshin because I wanted to laugh at a copycat game, it definitely wasn't similar enough to be a BOTW copy. There were identical aspects like structures that reveal the map when touched, a potential argument for domains being like dungeons and probably more I can't think of but even in 1.x there was too much different things for it to be a BOTW copy in a way that justified the criticisms

Also that “structure that reveals part of the map”… that isn’t a Zelda thing. That is peak Ubisoft. It was Ubisoft that started that with Assassin’s Creed and later every open world game just copied it.

    I'd believe it today

    this is an insult

Yeah we are not that stupid

    Well, some of us are.

How potato is the device you're playing dawg?

I wouldn't. The art direction looks like a mess like everything in sight is there for gameplay content instead of telling a story.

Tencent is such a dogshit company. I cannot believe they bought up like 20% of all game companies out there.

  • Tencent and plagiarism, name a better duo

Didn’t Sony sue them for making a game like the Horizon franchise ?

yep. and iirc they announced that game not long after talks about Tencent and Sony potentially working together on an actual Horizon project fell through, so it was double yikes.

I definitely think they had already started working on it before bringing the proposal to Sony, then just continued working on it after they were denied.

    That's exactly what happened

Not only sued but won and then got a court order to have Tencent to delete all assets, codes and repos relating to the plagiarised game.

    They settled out of court.

Didnt they just settle it and Tencent had to pull it from stores?

The case never made it to court. Sony and Tencent settled and the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, which means it cannot be filed again.

The details of the settlement are confidential, we don't know what Tencent agreed to do. We just know the game was delisted.

    A Horizon/Destiny mix.

Damn, translation apps nowadays are so accurate!

For real. If I just saw the translated text, it's idiomatic to the point it looks just like the average redditor comment.

That's their entire business plan end to end. Every product they've ever had, they either bought the rights to host, or straight up plagiarised. This goes all the way back to the 90s.

It literally is just buy the mobile rights to the current big thing that isn’t on mobile yet

Tencent accusing Hoyo of plagiarism with Genshin by citing Honkai Impact 3?

Was that a joke? A sarcasm? I'm sorry. Hearing a lot of sarcasm daily from my institutional authorities I have become someone who can't discern between what's a joke and what's not.

    Nah, it did happen.

Around Genshin's release, there was a white paper authored by Tencent accusing Hoyo of plagiarism by citing a bunch of things. One of the things they cited was a Tieba meme about Genshin internally being called Honkai 4. Tencent's white paper cited it unironically, claiming it as evidence of plagiarizing Honkai 3rd, Hoyo's own game...

    https://www.zhihu.com/question/438809119

Ah yes, hoyo plagiarizing hoyo. That sounds so logical.

I don't understand why Tencent calls out Hoyo of plagiarizing when HI3 is not even their game. Are they really that salty when MiHoYo refused their proposal?

its just easy tactic to defame company cuz people are stupid and will believe in any shit without evidence.

Tencent till this day see Hoyo as a threat.

Probably because most corporate lawyers handling video game cases aren't actually video gamers.

Dam, I had forgotten how much Tencent loathes HYV.

Wtf?... I thought that was a hoax..

Irl you can get flagged for “plagiarizing” your own papers, so maybe it’s something similar where even though it’s the same person who made it, you’re not allowed to do it legally. I mean, it’s a dumb angle tbh and would probably get thrown out immediately

Yes its called self plagiarism but why tf is tencent concerned about it when both are hoyo games and the only thing similar is the gacha aspect😭

Not to mention the cited argument was because Genshin's internal codename is Honkai 4, that's it, lmao

Did they get sued back for defamation or anything they can't keep getting away with ts🫩

Nope, not a Joke, they actually accused them of Copying Honkai Impact 3rd lmfao.

    That is funny as shit

That’s the silliest thing I heard all day. 😂

I remember how much my forehead hurt after facepalming when I saw that

Why tf can't I put a gif in here lmao 😭🤣🤣🤣

if my memory serves me, they release some mobile gaming white paper and one of the sections touches on Genshin, claiming that players often accuse them of plagiarising games like breath of the wild and Honkai Impact 3.

That's funny. Accused of plagiarising one own thesis. 🤣🤣

    Tencent not plagiarising challenge:Impossible

But it's okay because they have the closest ties to the Government despite being "public".

  • If you didn't bring it up, I thought it was milliastra

Yeah my first thought was a big Theepot update

  • You could have just quoted this as a very expansive Milliastra Map and I'd have gone with that.

  • Tencent still seething that Hoyo didn’t sell out to them

In an alternate timeline, maybe we'd see hoyo and kuro team up making a large scale open world game under tencent's paycheck

I'm glad we're not in that timeline. A large scale open world from China would probably not even exist.

That timeline would have been one where the Hoyo IPO was approved. But even if Tencent acquired Hoyo, they won't make Hoyo and Kuro team up. They'd more likely not acquire Kuro in the first place because their internal offerings will cannibalize each other. Or he could let both teams create Open World games and EOS the one that made less money. I highly doubt Genshin would exist because during it release there's no market statistics suggesting a game like Genshin would be successful, and I doubt Tencent would invest so much on Hoyo to create that game given their status at that time, with the only successful game being HI3.

    Hell nah.

The worst thing that could happen is that Tencent actively participate into the decision-making of the company. The somewhat more decent company they hold are the one they only invest and dont interfere with decisionmaking

  • at first i thought it was just a coincidence, Since it's the common style/visual of Unity Engine

But then the shot change to that Yellow/Orange hue 😂

Yeah, like "oh generic plains area that reminds me of Mondstadt, I'll allow it".

"Wait, the ruins look a bit..."

And then Liyue and Inazuma-lite showed up.

Chenyu Vale too with the pink trees

idk why Tencent feels they need to make this clone when they already have Wuwa

Wuwa is eh if you’re a casual gamer tho, it’s more focused towards people with higher grade setups (I’m saying this as a big Kuro stan btw). I think they want more games to capture the casual demographic

I personally quit WuWa because my pc was unable to handle it with ray tracing on, it worked so-so until Septimont, then started to continuously drop. 3.x I have 15 fps or less in the academia. Unbearable. This is one of many dissatisfactions but like the final nail in the coffin.

Why are you trying to force raytracing on a rig that can't handle it in the first place?

Not OP but i have a 4070 mobile, it is totally able to handle the RT until it doesn't. And it often doesn't.

The game is very inconsistent in terms of performance and often decides to just not run properly.

Because Tencent is a big ass company, and have many departments and subsidiaries under them.

The acquire Kuro with a 51% stake, but that doesnt meant they have to stop whatever they are doing atm to accomodate for them.

Like they also held a majority shares in Riot, yet they still made HoK, a League copycat and subsequently their own "TFT" instead.

HoK was made after Tencent requested Riot to make a mobile port of LoL and Riot's executive refused because he believed it was impossible to replicate LoL's gameplay on mobile at the time. Tencent disagreed so they had one of their other subsidiaries look into it and HoK was the result.

Wuwa looks nothing like genshin, guess they’re shooting for a more stylized aesthetic with this one

Tencent got lucky, because the original creator out of cash sold them shares; but Tencent arent happy with just owning 51% share,

I guess Tencent wanted the whole pie lol

Because it didn't garner the success they were hoping for.

    Kuro games still operated independently

I can’t believe they copied Britain from HSR too

Yeah the color palette gives it away. It's so recognizably Liyue

There were houses that are 100% the yellow cabins from Liyue too

The first complete giveaway to me was the big stone bricks. Those are literally the exact same ones you could see all over liyue and mondstadt.

Unless HoYo are using asset-store assets, which I don't believe they are, it's hard to call genshin "common unity style".

No its their own assets. In mond and liyue they even watermarked textures to prevent others to copy genshin. Dont know if watermarks saved till this day

at first i thought it was just a coincidence, Since it's the common style/visual of Unity Engine

    no, it’s not?

Ikr, usually genshin accusations go in the realm of "hoyo invented this very common trope that existed in anime and game culture for decades, you are plagiarizing by coincidentally ending up with this very commonly used trope"

But this time it's actually a legit accusation

Is it a common style of unity? I haven't used unity in years but I don't think unity has a specific style tied to it like Unreal Engine for example.

It's especially glaring when you realize that Hoyo's unity is slightly custom built for genshin, meaning this is some true tip tier plagiarism by Tencent.

there is no "default toon shader" to have a common style for anime looking games😅

  • that's looks exactly the fucking same lmao

  • It's so uncanny it looks like an ai version of what chat gpt think Genshin looks like

I thought it was Sora 2 recreating Genshin

  • from what i can see the lighting, textures and color pallette are almost identical, also i beleive i saw a parody of an oculus,if i saw this video before exploring liyue i would be confused because i can’t find that location in game, the only thing different is the water that maybe has somewhat more reflection but that is a given since genshin came out almost 5 and a half years ago and was thinking more of how to get this thing running on phones instead of putting RTX into the game

i think the water used to look like that in genshin's beta actually lmao

yeah, it the first what caught my eyes

  • quick, recreate this game in MW lol

actually, they're already on it lol

This was probably made in MW...

  • Can I copy your homework? Sure just change it a bit so it doesn't look the same.

  • The world design and colour palette does seem very similar to early genshin but I haven't seen actual gameplay so idk.

Also when was the first time they plagarised genshin?

    First time, idk.

But, there was a post earlier about a Tencent game web event using one of the geo gems icon in it.

I just went back and read through that post, Tencent literally can't stop copy pasting assets lmao

Last I heard their base pay wasn't great so it might be more of a "I'm not being paid enough to actually make all the assets" kinda thing.

I still don't understand why they are "consistently sloppy". Are their workers just paid/treated so bad that they intentionally leave evidence all the time?

IIRC Tower of Fantasy was accused to have copied some assets from Honkai Impact and other miHoYo games, trailer copied another game I don’t remember the name of practically shot for shot, and a later event item copied the saint quartz of Fate/GO.

    [removed]

That specific one I never knew, yet not really surprised they did that

I heard this from someone who was working in game development before that told me copying assets was basically an open secret with game devs.

I suspect it happens a lot more with smaller studios, but then when these guys start working on larger projects, they end up dipping into that well again not realizing the game has changed and the culture of expectations is way stricter. And then it get passed all the filters and released before anyone else in the team realizes anything was plaigiarised.

its a normal to have copy as placeholder everyone do that even AAA Western studios

Sometimes it slips into release version and soon after fixed.

Yeah i remember that. Tof did used an asset(the sword, "3rd Sacred Relic") from Honkai Impact 3 for one of their trailer. They removed that trailer after they got caught.

The earliest instance that I could remember is one of their honor of kings poster essentially pasted an image of Genshin's map. The poster showed a door, half opening to an open world (I recall it was to promote their honor of kings open-world game), and that glimpse of the open world was essentially a screen shot of Genshin's Map (If I recall correctly it was Dawn Winery).

Tencent apologized and blamed their third party art provider. I do think there are instances before that but I can't recall the exact the details.

it‘s tencent. I bet my twocent it’s plagiarism. Period.

  • Suspected? xD This is such an obvious plagiarism.

I want them to release ts and get fked for plagiarising lol

  • It's 2026 and they're still this pissed that they couldn't buy hoyo

tbf... genshin still raking it in even after all these years so yeah... i think they still have the gall to be seething at them lol

  • 如果hoyo说这是蒙德和璃月的重做,大家都会相信的,哈哈。

  • I do find it hilarious that Genshin was accused of being a knock off of Breath of the Wild and now it has its own knock offs.

At least Genshin's combat is night and day from BotW combat.

every FPS copy Doom we know that...

People had to focus on the animations and mechanics since the games overall look different. Even if you put those Genshin and BOTW side by side, people can't really tell any similarities other than they're both open worlds with open world mechanics.

    [deleted]

Yeah, its undeniable that Genshin was supposed to share the hype of botw. Obviously they're completely different games now but Hoyo knew what they were doing with the artstyle, the enemy camps and the random ass cooking mechanic. There is a reason they started with Mondstadt and not with Liyue.

And this strategy worked too. Many of my friends only tried the game because they were looking for a botw-like game and genshin was f2p + available on every platform.

but.. but.. they both can climb trees man.. don't you know nintendo invent climbing tree?? And.. and.. swimming! And cooking! And eating! Don't you know nintendo invent all that stuff. Geez, these genshin player.. (this was sarcasm obviously)

  • How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, --old man-- Tencent?

  • Tencent's

    plagiarizing

  • Finally, after it was teased in the 2021 Game Awards, we finally have Jenshin Impact

  • Temu Genshin

  • Fart of the Wild

  • If you hadn't told me otherwise I would have assumed this was miliastra.

  • I feel like this proves copying doesnt make it feel the same. This is very much a genshin copy but with no heart and soul making it feel weird

looking at this it feels like its trying to copy genshin (obvs) but it doesnt work becauses theres no heart and soul. Genshin landscapes you can tp anywhere look so incredible, a lot of dev thoughts go into them and it shows this just feels like they got a collage of genshin ss and tried to recreate without thinking

Problem that I see in TC is that they seem more passionate about making money than making industry changing games, It's the talented studios that sell out to them that should get most of the credit not them.

  • Bro if you want to copy just change the art style 😭 this shit just look exactly like genshin

  • Is their game engine Miliastra Wonderland? lol

  • Don't some of the early assets in Genshin have a trademark imprinted on them I think it looked like an anemo or geo slime on some of the mountain building blocks

  • Wow I love Not Mondstadt, Not Liyue and Totally not Inazuma. This new open world looks promising! /j

  • i do not see the reason to 'copy' a game looks,

do they think people gonna leave Genshin to go in a copy-cat game'? it makes no sense ,

i can understand copy the 'formula' ,which is not even Genshin exclusive, but if they want to get players to play their game they need to put effort in create a world and a story which players want to try .

You gotta understand. Tencent will literally take the smallest opportunities at the chance of harming Hoyo's success in any way shape or form. Doesn't matter if it loses them money, they have so much of it that it just doesn't matter.

They are to this day seething that Hoyo denied their offer to be bought out and have been after them since.

wouldnt it be more productive to spend top dollar to make wuwa an even better bigger game? Every gamer will be happy for that.

I feel like Tencent just wanna ruin Genshin by throwing many intentional exact bad copycat slop in the market, so these types games are "bad" in general for uninformed new players. I'll make the toyota copy cat and flood the market, so the public thinks toyota is a bad car. I let my own good product unique & let them flourish.

  • What did Venti do this time towards that rock structures in Liyue..

Flung it to the shadow realm?

  • This is way to obvious. It seems Tencent is just plagiarizing every popular IP

  • Not even just Genshin, you can see a skyview tower from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom in there. We’ve come full circle

  • I think they are a little late on the open world gacha market

  • Those are Genshin's assets for sure

  • “疑似”

    兄弟,我百分百相信这是茶壶里那些高明的把戏。

  • incredible how genshin's music is so important and good. If you change the song in this video, the vibe would be 100x better

  • Am I supposed to believe this ISN'T Genshin?

  • I remember seeing people complaining about Genshin early art style to be a copy from BotW even though both of them looked drastically different with Genshin being even more detailed and more graphically advanced, but this? This is what a copy is

  • There's no way assets haven't been stolen how tf does it look EXACTLY the same just look at the clouds

  • Someone can probably build these in the genshin teapot the assets are that similar

  • Guys are not even trying lmao

  • looks like what if you try to put every region on your serenitea pot

  • 我真搞不懂人们是怎么为它辩护的。那些素材看起来简直就是从原神里复制粘贴过来的。

    水军啊,都是水军。

  • I deadass thought this was genshin I just woke up 😭

  • Suspected? Lol

  • 抄袭之处不在于地点,而在于整体的艺术风格。

  • Expected from tencent, everything they touch is shit, I won't expect anything different from this new "game" from them.

  • I guess plagiarism isn't that much frowned upon by gamers there?
Else, why'd TC even resort to this kind of publicity stunt?

It's only a problem when it's "Hoyo" doing it.

That's why I always said, it makes no fking sense that Hoyo got THAT much flak from the community for the BOTW incident. They werent even THAT relevant within the gaming sphere, not like one of the behemoth in the scene now. Communities piling on people/CC who say they are interested in the game prior to the release and Doxxing and verbally abusing people/CC who stream/play the game. With the amount of hate they got, if you would have told me they were part of the Imperial Japanese army occupation in China, I would have believed it.

Suddenly it's no longer an issue when Palworld did it to Pokemon, and all the other bullshyt plagiarism going on in all kind of games.

This is precisely what convinced me that why smearing campaigns are present in China, it's simply not reasonable to have THAT much attention on a somewhat nobody company during that period of time garnering that much uproar. Honestly, you also cant convince me that BOTW is more popular than fking Pokemon as a franchise, garnering that much attention over some other game.

I think most Pokémon fans can't even defend the somewhat lazy Pokémon games that gets released nowadays so they hope a Pokémon clone with additional twists would light a fire under Game Freak's asses.

But Tencent was 100% running a smear campaign against Hoyo before and after Genshin's release

  • Bruh i thought its miliastra showcase

  • you’re telling me this isn’t genshin…?!

  • Yo I didn’t realize genshin impact were adding new regions!

  • i thought it was just a miliastra project lol

  • 10cent borrow hoyo map editor to do this, trust me

  • That's just straight up Genshin. I don't know how much of that if any is legit copied assets, but the overall style makes it pretty indistinguishable at times.

  • Tencent plagiarizing? Quick, everyone act surprised

  • Stealcent doing its stealcent things again

  • Which game is this?

  • WHAT DO U MEAN THAT'S NOT GENSHIN LOL

  • oh i thought i was looking at genshin 🥲

  • Copy Furina and I’ll consider

Tencent: got it, we have a playable character named Aniruf!

  • I don't doubt it, but we need more proof than just "same exact art style". Gotta compare the tree models and rock models to see if anything was actually ripped from the game, since art style can't be copywritten.

Honestly though, it does look like it was made using 100% assets ripped from Genshin, but Idk that without actually comparing the individual models.

if we're gonna compare it between individual assets, i'm pretty sure there are difference... but it's not that atp - it's the artstyle itself. even Genshin's main competitors dont have this level of Genshinness

  • Brother that's literally a Genshin map. It definitely can't get more blatant than this, right? Oh yeah, I forgot those ads using modded Genshin gameplay to advertise their shitty 2D game.

  • The bad blood between the two esp for Tencent towards Mihoyo never seems to cease. Also it's already part of culture for the Chinese to copy anything even themselves...

  • I was gonna say it was probably enough to be legally different, but then some of it looks too much like specific landmarks in Genshin.

  • That's Tencent business model tho.
