Back then I thought, "this banner has only one 5 star on it whereas this banner has multiple 5 stars on it.... I should pull on this one instead!" I was also swayed a little by seeing Keqing on the banner, who to me looked prettier than Venti.
Same, took me 3 years to get Keqing and only cuz anniversary finally let you pick. I was holding out for it was literally gonna quit the game if it didn’t happen then.
True, and it would mean everyone has the same characters, losing some of the core appeal of gacha games, where scarcity and personal choice are what serve as the basis for the geameplay

Yeah, pretty much. Archon's give you primos, most archons give you a weekly boss (Venti, Furina and Mavuika don't), and Razor and Arlecchino also give you a weekly boss.
Durin's story quest is the first to have a skin as a reward. But the story quests are pretty great and fun to do (with a couple exceptions, but that's subjective).

Not only it doesn't make as much money it's just not sustainable. You can't have years of live-service content without live-service monetization.

Frick, it was worse for me: I assumed one could get a new character from the Teapot and I worked toward it. Boy, how wrong was I.
I thought you could get any character by pulling on a banner, took until C2 venti and a banner change that I realized
I thought that too when I first played Amber Kaya and Lisa. I was excited to get Jean, venti and diluc later on. Oh man😔
