Yeah good luck with that when you likely live in a gerrymandered congressional district, your preferred candidate gets blacklisted because they dared to challenge corporate profits, and then find your vote for president is meaningless because you live in a state where at least 50 + 1% of the voters disagree with you.
Don’t forget that you have trained an algorithm specifically to cater to whatever it is that keeps you glued to a screen, so the flow of information you receive isn’t necessarily what is most accurate, but what is most engaging.
I don’t mean to be pessimistic for its own sake, and I still stress to everyone reading this that you should go vote, but it’s kind of hard to create meaningful change when all the people who do not want meaningful change control the levers of power and information
I‘m totally fine.7.5% from my and my wifes net income for rent.Groceries are more expensive than before ukraine war/Covid,but we stopped eating out.Living in Germany for some context.
We life in a cooperative Appartements(Translation from Google, dont know the english Word),so we have to pay significant less than people on the „free“ market. But yes,we earn well above average too.
Assuming they are similiar to our 2+ apartments sharing communinal spaces like kitchen, laundry, bathroom, you are still likely outperofming most people in the US. With a simgle roomate in the cheapest housing we can find on top of govermemt assistance me and a friemd would of both been pulling 40+% of our income for rent. Most people I know my age with their owm place have a minimum of 2 additional roomates, and usually are all barely able to afford neccessities.
Okay, I forget the name of them, but my aunt had one paid for by r/tigerking whe. She was working for him (I have not kept up with anything about the show, or if he was good or terrible to the animals, he was a dick to staff though so I imagime animals weren't treated properly either) a few years back, and I know the total cost was the lowest % of her income she'd ever needed to spend on housing, but I don't have exact numbers. Regardless I it sounds like you have. Good siuation going on, and its good to hear some people still find decent patches of peace in the world
Yeah. I’m lucky bc I have grocery help between my roommates (they help pay I cook for both and vice versa) but if not I’d be paying $400-500 a month on just groceries. Not counting essentials like toothpaste and the like. It’s crazy. I’m not gonna even touch the car and rent and school bills. I can’t wait till I graduate and hopefully find a full time job, start making progress on my debt.
I live in Canada. I have friends and family who are struggling, and I have friends and family who are doing well. It really seems to depend on the job and where they are living. Some places it is easy to find work, others not, also depending on what sort of job.
I'd say so. I mean I'm fortunate enough to have a decent job, but the people who did this job in past generations were doing a whole lot better than getting by like I am
Vehicle insurance being high on first time drivers is such bullshit. It's literal ageism. The premium should only go up if you have a record of traffic incidents.
There's something driving people who don't even care about cars to spend an extra $30,000 to drive a new expensive car instead of something older and cheaper. Meanwhile, they complain about being unable to afford necessities and hobbies. My brother in christ, you made this 2024 Bronco into your hobby when you signed up for an 8-year loan at 9.8% APR. If you wanted to do other things with your life apart from pay for a car, you should have bought less car and more 'other things'.
Yes, falling living standards are real and need to be addressed, but the proverbial plank in your eye is the giant 4x4 hole in your driveway that you've been throwing money into.

My grocery bill gets higher everytime i go. I buy store brand. I don't buy steaks or anything crazy. My rent is high.
I was just whining about how I haven't had a good steak in over a year or more last night. I want it so bad.
I'd send you some from the UK if I could. Can get pretty good steaks here for £3.
There is a yearly event that you can take one day to send someone to the government to try and change things.
But alas, that might be too much effort for it requires a day off

Person A - "Hey maybe we should try to vote for better things!"
Person B - Three paragraph rant about why we can't do anything ever

If only there was a method for voters to determine the general election candidates.

Is that normal for Germany? In the US you have to make substantially above average wages for rent to be that small of a percentage of your income.

Nah,no shared kitchen or bathroom.It‘s a normal Appartement,but only a company without profit intention.We got a 2room Appartement (57m2).

Everyone knows it's happening, they just don't want to admit they're a problem else the show would be over.
Me when a news headline tries to sound monotonous and professional
No
I live within my means and put excess in my IRA, plus I make decent money
"Gen Z is spending more on essentials"
Maybe if the essentials in question weren't raised in price so companies could pass on the inflation to consumers then this wouldn't be a problem.
I don’t think it’s a weird way of saying it, it’s a precise factual way of saying it

Vehicle insurance shouldn’t even be a necessity, you shouldn’t need a car to live your daily life
