My favorite thing about insert just about any long running series is “everyone” talking about how bad it is now and how it all went wrong. But then everyone has a completely different mark on the timeline regarding where they went wrong.
IMO feels like the reality is there’s not a huge amount of change between entries and it’s really just the mark of where you got tired of the formula.
I still remember being in middle school, hearing people argue about whether Call of Duty stopped being good in Black Ops 1 or Modern Warfare 3. They grow up so fast 🥲
Yeah people were saying all this shit about COD being bad now back when I was in primary school (for context, the newest game at the time was Advanced Warfare/ BO3).
I played AW and then later BO3 and really liked them. Nowadays people consider BO3 to be one of the best in the franchise.
It was all downhill after Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare.
I don't think it's when you get tired of the formula, but the fact that the formula hasn't changed in an impactful and meaningful way. The changes they do make tend to such arse.

I think the pokemon community has the benefit of constantly growing, which makes it really easy to cast someone aside. Even the (to my knowledge) not awful people in the scene from when I was growing up have ended up losing a significant portion of their viewership (marriland, shadypenguin, adrive, etc), drastically lowered their output, expanded their focus, or some combination of the three (JWittz is still around but doesn't upload much, though it looks like he's been covering Z-A).

The rampant cheating is one thing but it's also the pisspoor attempt of trying to get a new audience who have no interest in paying 60-90 dollars for a lesser experience they can get free on other platforms like Fortnite.
There is so many videos relating to not to play old CoD games due to rampant cheating, lack of security patches on older titles that lead to a risk of hacking your account. To counter that, that's why they have the BOIII Client for BO3 or Plutonium for WAW, BO1, BO2, MW3 and BO3 since IW4X Clients for MW1, MW2, AW and IW were shut down due to Activisions Cease and Desist on SM2 and H2M.

Black Ops 7 is bad, but not for any of the DEI reasons. Writing feels very rushed, but I felt like the premise was good, but very poorly executed. There’s no build up for the big bad, no interesting twist, and feels legacy characters are shoehorned in for nostalgia. For the game that uses AI as a theme the scope of it is very limited.
Campaign was a rush job to introduce Endgame, which is fun.
But it's not a worthy sequel to BO2, Warzonification of campaign shouldn't be a thing after MW3 and yet they've done it again.

Games fail for a lot of reasons. It's complicated. Sometimes good games can even fail just because they get squeezed by even better games - October was a crazy month this year for example. How good game's marketing is, how well-received the previous game in the franchise was, and many other aspects also affect sales. But to an outrage farmer, the reason has to fit their long-tail narrative, even when it's not true.
Some games really do have a forced cultural messaging problem. Veilguard really did have this problem - the pushup sermons and other things were completely uncalled for in a mass-market entertainment product. But many more games were also accused of having this when they didn't, and to a grifter, it's all the same. Avowed didn't have anything really, and neither does The Outer Worlds 2 as far as I can tell. But if you just go by youtube headlines, you wouldn't know that.
But even in the case of Veilguard, I would say the reason it flopped had more to do with the success of BG3 and people wanting Bioware to go back to Origins. People really didn't want to go to mission-based linear levels, god of war combat, etc. for this franchise. I certainly never asked them to do that. They also disrespected the story and lore of the previous games, which undermined people's nostalgia and commitment to the characters and world of the franchise. The tone for the games and agency and reactivity was also very poor. But Youtuber's rarely focused on this aspect even though it was probably more detrimental. It's just easier to sell a simpler narrative.
Basically, you just have to filter out these people. They are not trying to give facts or nuance. They are just trying to make you mad so you watch and comment and keep coming back. Their channels only end when people figure this out and stop watching them.

I've barely started B07, I'm always for the cod campaigns and the co-op is interesting. I like the continuation of the cradle tech from b06 and david's story. Just a mission in and i feel like the squad is cohesive, has good banter, and it'll be interesting to see where it goes.
If bo6 and cold war are any indication, it's clear the dev team has been trying to stretch out the bounds of campaign experiences, which I appreciate better than the half-DMZ MW3 trued to do
