The downgrade in the presentation of physical games has been huge. Obviously this isn’t only the case here, but it’s honestly sad to see how little effort they put into it nowadays. Even on the game’s cover (it’s not fully noticeable in the image), the “V” had a metallic embossed finish on the PS3 version that the PS5 version no longer has. But the biggest loss, in my opinion, ends up being the map and the artbook/booklet, which are no longer included.
When GTA V was released back in 2013, almost everybody was still buying physical copies, especially on consoles
But you can see the latest numbers from Sony, their sales ratio is close to 80% digital and 20% physical
i'm not justifying the lack of effort, but these days, the physical copies are for the minority, and companies don't care
Sadly true...
Digital is easier
If you think that's impressive check the manual from GTA SA. Yes the damn MANUAL
What I would give to have a physical copy of GTA San Andreas for PS2
If GTA vi doesn't have a map I'll riot.
GTA 7 map should take up the whole living room ong
If you do, im right beside ya
I think there will be a collector's edition and it will probably be included.
I think this was a result of the game being a re release like 3 times over. They still had a map in RDR2 and I would expect the same for GTA 6. Rockstar is the exception for their physical media they know people love to buy their games physically still so I would be quite shocked if they buck their own trend
pc gaming really killed physical media everyone moved to digital overnight. Ps4/xbox one most people still bought physical until then. Sony launched disksless consoles forching people to go digital slowly killing physical media. and Pc has been digital for ages.
what does pc gaming have to do with it? more and more people just started to switch to digital games on console because of practicality, and companies like sony and microsoft just adopted it for their newer consoles. on pc you basically have to get games digitally because of the bigger game sizes on pc, gta 5 had 7 discs for the pc version. imagine how man discs a game like call of duty would have, they are over 200gb these days
I was just saying this. After ps2 u barely got any thick manual
I've got two PS3 copies , the later PS3 copy lost its reflective 'V' branding too .
I didn't know this, I imagine the PS4 version is also very close to this PS5 version
I bought my GTA V for my Xbox one and got a map, in fact it's taped to my door, the design on the box art it pretty much the same on the PS3 and Xbox 360. But I now that I have a Series X, I no longer have to put the disc in so it saves time, however putting the disc in is just right.
Games don’t come with cool stuff in the box anymore
Rockstar games still do they at least give you a map poster
Only noble class had the dirigible atomic.
I managed to snag a new copy of GTA V that had the map in 2025 it was a PS4 copy but I am a collector and I play on PC
God i still remember using the map that came with the physical copy to find a police station holy as a kid😭
I bought my ps3 copy on release day 17 minutes after midnight. I still have the receipt in the case. You guys think this could have value some day?
Yes, although I would keep it for a few more years
Buying a physical game without a manual or map with just the disc, it feels empty.
PS3/Xbox 360 version is peak GTA V imo
