Then you are taxed per gallon of fuel, just like vehicles are.
As far as which rate, it depends on how they have their private jet setup I don't know the details if it requires being operated under part 135 or if it would work for commercial part 91 flight. While I know that the two rates exist, I only over flew as the noncommercial tax rate when I flew bug smashers for fun decades ago. There are also state level taxes on fuel.
So regardless anyone claiming that jet fuel isn't taxed is completely wrong. Whether you fly commercial or private the Feds are getting their pound of flesh.
Don't mean to be an a-hole, but can you provide a source? I am far from an expert, however AFAIK aviation fuel in the US *IS* taxed, both commercially and privately (granted the former pays way less than the latter does, and even then it pales in comparison to the amount of taxes on plain gasoline that the everyday person has to buy). Additionally, some states apply their own aviation fuel taxes and LUST fees (Leaky Underground Storage Tank) too.
I dont know how true it is but I read once that each Kardashian produces a bigger carbon footprint in a day than the average person produces in a year.Â
One day Bezos had an important meeting in New York and had plans to fly in his jet early morning from California. He woke up with a headache and decided to do a remote meeting instead. The amount of fuel saved is your lifetime usage to drive your family car. So dont go by all the shit good things you are asked to do for environment... Your life is equivalent to one day headache of a billionaire
Not ever close, they are god awful on carbon emissions but it isn't that much. A single trip would be a little over an average American's total carbon emissions in a year.
On private jet travel alone, each year Bezos emits about ten times an average American's total carbon footprint.
ETA: Looks like I got confused on Bezos' total as it was a couple of years ago, and did a couple of celebrities at the same time.
Hmmm good point, I think that might have been Taylor Swift, as I looked up Bezo's total private jet flights hours and it comes up to about 3,000 tons. Or about 190 times the average American.
I think your math is wrong. for the average American, a cross country round trip commercial flight is roughly equivalent to half of a year of driving in terms of emissions. so if he is in a ~100 person sized plane and the flight is just for him, then yes that single flight is approximately equivalent to an average person's lifetime driving emissions.
A 737 averages under 100kg per flight hour per passenger.
The average American passenger car emits about 5 tons.
So in order to emit a lifetimes worth you would need to emit 200 tons. Billionaires like Bezos do easily emit that yearly from their private jets, it just would take flying most of the way around the world to do it on a single flight, not just missing a meeting on the other coast.
But I've said it before I know rich liberals aren't serious about climate change until I see them giving up private jets. That single act dramatically lowers their carbon footprints.
your numbers given are consistent with my conclusion, not yours. do the math, and don't forget the return flight. That's 10 hrs flight time so roughly 1/4 of the way around the world. it just depends on the size of the private jet tbh, a large one would be similar to lifetime car emissions and a small one would be less
No they aren't, the original claim is that a single trip from CA to NY is more than the total lifetime vehicle admissions for a single person. That is at least 200 tons.
Bezos owns two G650ER, which are classed as large private jets, they burn approximately 2 tons per flight hour.
The flight time between LAX and LGA is 5.5 hours, so 11hrs round trip, or 22 tons.
Now I'm not a math major, just computer science but I am pretty sure 22 tons is smaller than 200 tons.
Bezos flies a fuck ton and emits 3,000 tons from his private jets, but a single trip still isn't close to a lifetime of a single person's driving.
ETA: Even if he flew a BBJ, which is a 737 based business jet, it would be the similar as the 737 is more efficient than the G650ER when lightly loaded. Even fully loaded like a normal airliner they burn 6-7 tons per hour so still much less than a lifetime of a person driving. In order to get a jet that has the fuel burn to reach 200 tons back and forth you would probably be looking at something like an wide body airliner like a 787 or 777 based business jet, AFAIK only the Arab oil billionaires have those.
Don't forget to trade out your 30 year old still running, good appliance for an energy star that you can replace every three years filling up landfills faster than ever.
We are all conditioned to blame the left or the right for our problems, depending on which way you lean, but our gaze should all be centered firmly on the extremely rich. They are, and will continue making the world a worse place, and sooner or later they'll have so much power it will become almost impossible to get the power back.
This should unite us. We all have common interests even though our views differ.
When it comes to waste and energy usage across the entire planet though, Americans ostensibly are the extremely rich. The average American uses more electricity and produces more garbage than any other country. That is averaged, across the rich and the poor, per capita. We waste, our culture wastes, and we are addicted to the convenience.Â
I think whats so concerning about the meme and your comment is that, yes, primarily it is the ruling class to blame, especially on the overall quantity of waste. They're also to blame for continuously offering convenience to the public at the cost of the planet. But the public is to blame for continuously buying into that convenience. We use the plastic bags they offer, we buy the water bottles instead of refilling. We pay for shipping instead of pick up at store.Â
These are American products of convenience. Sure the evil sell them, but the apathetic keep buying them.
Nah, keep doing it. It's so fucking convenient for the politicians who actually fuck the world over. If it's not poor people's fault because they use plastic straws, then it's celebrities' fault for flying a small handful of planes. Don't think about how 100k commercial flights run daily, with tens of thousands more military and non-commercial flights running. And that's just planes - a teeny tiny slice of humankind's carbon footprint.
Don't hate on Taylor Swift or Bill Gates - be a single issue voter for the environment. And for young people, remember: you can't be a single issue voter and matter if you stay home.
I'd argue yeah, he's a hypocrite, but what that woman is presenting him is based on per capita statistics. As in, it is not the average american billionaire, it is the average american who uses that much more electricity than any other individual on average. Remember, these countries have billionaires too, the wealthy and impoverished in each country are included in those statistics.Â
If Leonardo DiCaprio is a hypocrite, than he's just being an effective spokes person for our culture, a culture that we continue to remain disinterested in affecting.Â
I was speaking of how his constantly climate control and he was on one of those private jets. Why wouldn’t I be referencing the post? Jeff Bezos couldn’t have been on all of those jets. It’s about the hypocrisy of the elite. That was my take on it.
I work as an LST at the airport. I drive a hybrid Kia Nero to work everyday, and I feel like such a clown. The wealthy only want to control the actions of the poor, while they burn the world down.
For example, yesterday I parked a Bombardier Challenger 350. It flew from Michigan to North Carolina. Only one rich prick got off. ONE. PERSON!
A Challenger jet emits roughly 2 metric tons (4,000 lbs) of CO2 per hour. For context, a short trip can produce as much CO2 as the average citizen's yearly footprint.
I get the point of this and don't disagree. I would, however, love to see someone calculate the impact of the Russian attack on the Ukraine, and all of trump's golf trips
Pallet straws, bag bans, gas stove bans are all orchestrated psyops. "Give in" on pressure, but only things that will piss off everyday ppl, and negativity affect the perception of the green movement. Every legislation since the 70s in the field has been controlled by the corps
You are correct, because you have a more resolute moral core than most. Memes like this are apathy propaganda crafted by the ruling class to con normal people into not trying. American have been sold their own survival, now they have to keep selling us convenience to keep us on the wheel.
And better get used to only eating insects for meat, and working out will also soon be outlawed because it creates CO2 but doesn't do the megacorporations any good.
Unpopular opinion, yeah billionaires fucking suck and are the main cause of this.Â
Americans need to shut the fuck up complaining about the microscopic amount of ecological guilt we receive compared to how much individually every single American wastes in direct comparison to other developed and undeveloped countries. We simply do use more plastic per product. We use more gas for convenience. We use more water than anywhere else. And my god do we use the most power.Â
If you're pissed at billionaires, do every single thing you can do to divest from them. Stop buying Amazon, and Netflix, and anything from any of these idiots pushing the AI bubble.
If you care about the planet, do that and also stop double wrapping your milk jugs in plastic bags, or buying water bottles, or all the other shit. Americans are comparatively fucking disgusting in our waste, and just blanket blaming someone else is a glaring flaw in our culture that absolutely prefers convenience over longevity.Â
Literally grow up, and do both right things at the same time. Be pissed off and be responsible. Its what the billionaires are incapable of doing, so we have to.Â
Well, there should be a thorough study (it likely already exists) on average carbon footprint per person in the rich western countries and then if you are clearly above that, pay a hefty Carbon Tax on the level that these f*cking millionaires would be a lot less rich and Billionaires would become millionaires.
Bit coin farming centers is using energy like anything we've ever seen but you might have to cut your home energy consumption and cut on heating or cooling cause the bilionnaires need their bitcoins.
nope, i have fully stopped any conservation efforts at my house. If i shower for 9 hours straight i will use .001 % of what a AI slop generation data center uses in 15 minutes.
I honestly cannot agree more. The average American, not the average billionaire American, spends more electricity per year than any other citizen in any other country. We use more plastic, we use more fossil fuels, we use more water. Per life, because of our culture of convenience, we absolutely waste more than other individuals.Â
Memes like this are literally apathy propaganda crafted by the ruling class to remind you to stop caring and choose convenience at every corner, because there's always someone more evil than you. But if you're an American it is an undeniable fact that you are wasting more than a completely normal average person in another country.Â
Kudos to all those highly-skilled pilots! Imagine landing a plane in all that air traffic! its mircable there were no collisions! or shall I say, Shame?
It’s just Taylor swift flying to target
Yeah but while other girls wear short skirts, she wears t shirts🥹
A woman wearing just your tshirt is better than women wearing short skirts.
Fuck that. Give me my shirt back you random woman.
No it’s mine now >:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tRaa4c6VXU
When Taylor Swift played in my city, she flew out between shows. So in total, 4 private jet flights.
For the cost in fuel it took for all that, I could feed myself for the rest of my life.
And aviation fuel is not taxed.
What?
He said:
Aviation fuel is not taxed
What?
Why the fuck not? Why am I getting taxed so hard when they aren't?
Rules for thee not for me.
I know what you mean.
But you pay less for your tickets when you go flying as well.
Except it is taxed.
Noncommercial Jet A is taxed at 21.9 cents per gallon. Commercial Jet A is 4 cents per gallon.
Airlines aren't taxed per gallon, but there is an excise tax on your ticket.
So the guy lied or was misinformed
So if you’re not buying a ticket because you have your own jet?
Then you are taxed per gallon of fuel, just like vehicles are.
As far as which rate, it depends on how they have their private jet setup I don't know the details if it requires being operated under part 135 or if it would work for commercial part 91 flight. Stop Attacking billionaires /s
10% of their wealth stops homelessness, food costs included
Their money can help but money doesn’t not prevent a determined person from becoming homeless
Better that it sits in an account generating interest for their great100 grandkids, true

You expect me to fly commercial to Bezos’ wedding? Ha! Do you also want me to wear a suit off the rack, order a beer, and do the chicken dance?
its the small things that can make a difference, you know
If I was Superman, id fart when I fly past a private jet and have them explode.
The impact of the picture would be bigger if you would include more planes in the picture.
Why not just sit at the end of the runway with MANPADs?
Also set extra taxes on people using commercial flights.
Billionaires and major corporations make up almost 2/3 of pollution and are less than 1% of the world population
Well, there should be a thorough study (it likely already exists) on average carbon footprint per person in the rich western countries and then if you are clearly above that, pay a hefty Carbon Tax on the level that these f*cking millionaires would be a lot less rich and Billionaires would become millionaires.

Yup. Sad thing is, we have to pay for the energy we use. So wasting it just for the case of wasting it is only emptying our wallets.
i do have a solar system on the roof, so i get a bit of that for free.

In the 18th c. we had the French Revolution. In the 19th c. The Communist Manifesto was published. The 20th c. is late.
And ended up having an emperor again within 15 years
Which so far has achieved... nothing..
Doesn't seem like a good streak there...
Third time's the charm.
Yes billionaires are bad for the environment, so let's all be bad. The climate will know it is to get back at the rich and it will be ok.
Remember when the MAGAs where all hot about Tyler's trips?

I just don’t like the logic that big corporations and billionaires are the problem, so why should the little guy even bother trying.
