His name is Daniel. And I finally got a chance to listen to what a non-voting Texan has to say, even if it's just one person.
What frustrated me was that he actually liked what Talarico had to say (even though he didn't agree with everything James had to say) and praised his vision for the country. So it should follow that if you like what his vision for the country, vote for him.
But he said he's deadset on not voting as he believes that he doesn't believe that there's a vision that changes the system fundamentally and he doesn't think his vote makes that much of a difference. And he unironically called voting a waste of time.
Sadly, even though he's one person, we have too many Texans who think exactly like him. And people like Daniel are why we can't have nice things in Texas.
Was he young? My kids are in their lower 20's and their world view is overwhelmingly different than when I was that age. I'm (pretty) sure they vote, but their prospects and expectations aren't the same.
Weird times, Rome has an American Pope, and America has a Russian President.
He's bald, but doesn't seem to have any gray hairs on his beard. So he seems to be in his late 30s or early 40s if I have to guess.
Just because the bus doesn't drop you off at your house doesn't mean it isn't worth it to ride it so you don't have to drive as far. Bring a non-voting friend with you to vote this year.
He sounds like one of those people who rides your bumper even though the freeway is empty. The mentality of “I’m not the problem, everyone else is.”
That episode was frustrating. I loved him answering every single question, but some got voted out before even getting an answer.
I find Jubilee to be an exercise in frustration, tbh. The format is horribly antagonistic and does nothing to alleviate our nation's divisiveness.
Basically. He tried and I hope swung some over.
Apathy kills Democracy
Voting does matter because it is your voice to the community and limiting government
It sounds like this guy needs to put his "vote that doesn't matter" behind a candidate that matters to him, namely a third party candidate.
That's what blows my mind about breaking the two party system. Everyone wants other options but they seem to think that they just show up out of thin air. People don't realize that you gotta start grass roots otherwise this "third party" will always be ambiguous at best. A lot of people had no idea who Jill Stein was or even what the Green Party stood for let alone any other "third party" candidate.
When people say "third party" they need to define what that means. Which party? Which candidate?
Welp, Jill Stein is a frequent dining guest of Putin.
I was a better person when I didnt know who Jill Stein was tbh
And hibernates for 3.5 years at a time.
We’re gonna be stuck with someone, might as well have a say in it.
So true. May Daniel and others like him decide to actually vote.🙏
So the issue seems to be that even when most democrats win, nothing of any real substance changes, so people feel that the system itself is the problem, and we're wasting our time voting in a two party system if youre someone who wants substantive change. Therefore, people who think this way feel it's a waste of time to vote, and your solution is to blame those people for not participating in a system that doesn't really change anything. I vote, basically out of habit at this point. I dont expect anything to come of it, and if we had another option, I would jump on it. Voting will not stop facism, and pushing the narrative that it's our only means of improving things is copium. Democrats will always blame the left for their own shortcomings.
My millennial child believes exactly this as well. Makes want to literally grab her and drag her to the polls. In fact I've done it before. But.... much more difficult now that she lives in Colorado. And they vote by mail!! (She is registered, I saw it on person in October)
Good. I don’t want someone that stupid to vote. I don’t want them to drive cars or own guns either. And I know they don’t get a tax refund because they’re TOO GODDAM STUPID to have a job.
