We all know about the rural/urban accents, but are there any noticeable profession accents? Would a person doing a specific job speak differently from an individual doing another?

  • There are accents linked to the social class so there are some accents that I would be surprised to hear with some specific profession. However I don't think there is one accent directly linked to a profession.

(Apart from the rugby commentators, they all have a southwestern accent; it must be part of the job description.)

  • People whose job is to speak like politics or journalists have a very distinct way of speaking.

Other than that, I don’t think there are job-related accents.

  • It's not a real rule it's only a cliché, but people in markets trying to sell you this amazing new device to cut carrots or whatever, well they have this specific intonation / accent. Also rugby commentators all have Toulouse accent.
