• I hate how easy she made this look. I’m going to try it, and I’m going to make a mess.

Good thing it’s a smash cake, so it’s ok if you make a mess!!! But yeah I know even just the bark texture must take so much practice

You can do it!! When I was making ducks in a pond, I looked up the technique for making the ducks, then made 20 or 40 ducks on a baking sheet before I felt confident and put them on the cake 😄

  • So adorable and well done

  • The bear is so cute! And his little toes!

  • Those mushrooms on the side were incredibly satisfying.

People like this make it look so easy and effortless, meanwhile if I tried this it would be a war crime

  • I love it, I made my sons first cake with chocolate ganache it wasn’t anything fancy especially since I used almond flour, my best friends nephew first cake was a smash cake covered in fondant he hated it, it’s way too sweet for the kiddos sometimes the good old fashioned way is just the way to go Edit: misspelling

  • This is so adorable!

  • Adorable and looks delicious

  • What’s a smash cake?

Copied from my response above: A smash cake for a first birthday is generally the cake baby gets to eat by themselves while everyone else has cupcakes or a sheet cake. It's just called a smash cake because one year olds just start digging into it with their little hands. There's usually a little photoshoot and cake and icing end up everywhere.

    Huh

It's a tiny cake made only for the baby. Baby can't use utensils yet, so they use their hands to eat the cake instead. They typically end up smashing and smushing the cake when trying to eat it, so it's called a smash cake. Everyone else either has cupcakes or gets a slice of a different cake.

Yeah, it's so the tradition of 1 year old children getting themselves covered in cake and icing and being adorable to continue without there just being remaining cake thst everyone else is supposed to eat like folks used to do. (They would just cut off the section the kid grabbed and serve it to party guests).

It's definitely way more sensible and sanitary to do a smash cake.

  • This made me hungry as hell

  • Her videos are so satisfying 💖

Yesss I watch her videos all of the time. She’s great.

  • Looks delicious and amazing but since it's mini, all I can think about is if it's going to be one of those cakes that they hand over to babies to smash their hands and faces in for the insta reel? Because I can't imagine spending that much on a custom cake for a literal baby.

I love the ivy details the most and hope they cut slices for everyone to appreciate it.

Alas, she does start off by saying it’s a smash cake.

A smash cake for a first birthday is generally the cake baby gets to eat by themselves while everyone else has cupcakes or a sheet cake. It's just called a smash cake because one year olds just start digging into it with their little hands. There's usually a little photoshoot and cake and icing end up everywhere.

Exactly... so this is, what? A $60-80 cake for a photoshoot? Sorry y'all but that's absurd for a baby... Decorated cupcakes all around makes more sense.

Sorry, I misread your comment. I thought that you thought it was to push baby's face into like some of those awful videos you might see, so I was explaining the difference lol. It's definitely out of my budget but some people go all out I guess. I got my kid rocket ship cupcakes for like $25 and the outer space smash cake was free. Granted, it was from Walmart but the bakery actually did a great job on it and it was well decorated.

obviously they can afford it lol, just because its not in your budget its automatically absurd...like obviously its for the family and memories for later? Why would cupcakes make more sense when the point of it is for the cake to be smashed?

Personally, I can afford it and I have children, I just think it’s stupid and wasteful to make a whole cake for sole purpose of destroying it.

Just give the baby a slice of cake, you’ll get the same result, the same picture, and the same memories.

Just because you can afford it doesn't mean the price is justified. You're spending that much on a singular smash cake for a baby who can't appreciate it and doesn't know the difference from a supermarket bakery cake. It's basically just for the parent's photoshoot.

Just because you can buy luxury shoes and purses for a baby, doesn't mean you should. Just because you can buy custom baked goods for a photoshoot, doesn't mean you don't deserve side eye.

why do they deserve a side eye for doing what they want for their baby?? holy shit people on reddit are so fucking strange, no shit its basically just for the parents photoshoot. Birthday parties for babies are basically the same exact thing. Who gives a fuck if the baby cant appreciate it? ITS FOR THE PARENTS, for like a third time people have said that.

Its soooo incredibly wasteful though. A small cake with a bit of frosting but all of this is so so much food waste

Its super cute but I was like yeah thats A LOT for a smash cake

  • The cake is just beautiful. But those leaves.... 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 Seriously!!! Those are amazing!! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

  • So cute and beautiful, the details are great

  • It's beautiful!

  • I think I wanna know how much that is and get me one

  • That is just the cutest. Love the bear ❤️

  • The ivy leaf tip i need to get it looks amazing!

  • Dont feed sugar to babies
