Hi! Welcome to your weekly thread where you can share your gym tales!

  • I always drive to the gym, but needed to walk to the gym this morning due to a holiday half marathon starting in my neighborhood that blocked off all car traffic and parking. I could’ve skipped today… no excuses, always staying motivated!

  • Weight loss still continues, unfortunately Christmas and New year is here. I will try to limit the damage... eh who am I kidding, I'm gonna go wild. Also doing my fat loss I noticed one thing about my body... I have Mike Israetel build. Well fuck me.

go in with a game plan and drink lots of water. had myself a cheat day this weekend. holidays are tough!!

    I'm gonna go wild

    Don't!

    Don't!

    I WILL DO IT BATMAN

Unless you are in a contest prep of some kind, a single day will not derail you. Usually a single day/meal will be a nice litle diet break, and you'll be able to easily jump back on without much or any damage overall.

AND, the fun, relaxation and diet break may be enough to offset the diet fatigue and overall stress. Allowing you to diet overall longer and more thoroughly.

    Enjoy the day!

I hear you! Don't freight over it. Think of nutrition as a week instead of a day: splurge one day, cut back the next. After a huge feast, you're satiated for a good day; have a smaller-than-normal meals the following day. Heck, you may even feel like skipping breakfast after all that gorging!

Also doing my fat loss I noticed one thing about my body... I have Mike Israetel build. Well fuck me.

Same as my step-brother. Short and stout is HARD cause your macro thresholds are so low.

You may even feel like skipping breakfast

NEVER! I will always eat my morning oats no matter what!

  • Got up early as usual and I started off with 25 minutes of yoga followed by high resistance rowing for 20 minutes and 35 minutes of walking. I've been aiming for a total of 3 hours of movement per day so I've got some more to do but I should get at least 30 more minutes of walking done before the end of my work shift. Weight loss is in progress. I'm down 46 pounds as of this morning. If I can continue this pace I'm on pace for a healthy BMI by May. Go get it!

That's freaking awesome. Losing 46 lbs is no joke, keep up the good work!

I had an ankle on jury in the army that had made it painful to run. Do you finding rowing to be a good source of cardio?

  • This will be my first workout after being away for 10 days due to acute bronchitis. I just got up and I'm already having trouble moving. It's going to be tough, but I don't see any other way to feel good again. I need to finish that cut.

Same happens to me, take off a week & feels like a year, but the good thing is after couple workouts it’s like you never left

  • Transitioning from deload to regular routine. Felt great to work with lighter weights, correct form, slow the eccentric, sync breathing. Valuable lessons learned

  • i finally canceled my gym membership (190/month) after almost 10 consecutive years at the JCC. my entire routine is based on bodyweight training and calisthenics, that all i need are bars (high bar, parallel bars, straight bar, rings, etc), which are FREE at various outdoor fitness areas around the city (the marina, sunset dunes, gg park, lake merced) - downside is when it's rainy like it is now, but I have a a high bar, parallel bars, and parallettes at home that i bought during the pandemic. the gym is nice for weather events, but made no sense anymore since i dont use free weights or machines.

  • Live opera singing in the locker room today

  • Last week, I finally deadlifted my bodyweight!

  • Was on the treadmill running intervals and Anthrax’s version of “Got the Time” came on. The “two, three, go!” to kick off the chorus was perfectly synced with the start of the first running interval. It’s the little things that keep me going🙂

  • I just finished up my workout 30 minutes ago. There was a guy, in full 80s workout gear, livestreaming a workout on his phone. I couldn't tell if he was teaching a body weight class or Muay Thai for beginners.

  • I’ve officially reached the point where without a t-shirt on I look like I need to cut, but with a t-shirt on, I sort of look like I lift.

    Hooray?

Spare me the sight of your sagging tits

  • I've been playing this game called Dispatch, and I'm just so entertained that they feature people who lift:

    - There's this huge engineer character who's obviously jacked. His nickname is Royd, and the main character makes a joke like, "do they call you that because of steroids?" and Royd is shocked and upset: "You mean they think Royd not natty?" You have a choice to either tell him you're joking or yeah, it's probably because of steroids.

    - There's in-game dialogue where one of the female characters goes to another female character, "How is your butt so big?" and the female character goes, "Hella squats, girl!" That made me laugh IRL

    - There's a whole extended cut scene where the main character tries to bench and fails, and one of the other characters spots him. Then that character casually squats 4 plates for reps and looks like he has like 12 more in the tank, while telling him normies need a spotter when they lift. (There's been some discussion on the ad hoc sub if it's in kg or lbs. The numbers are weird - the 35 plate looks like it should be a 45 - and apparently the creator said everything is in lbs, so it might just be a goof on the production side).

    - One of the characters gets handcuffed to a squat rack, because boobs 😂

Of all the things to get me to play Dispatch lol. I'll catch on sale at some point, I'm sure.

    Great game! Killer soundtrack, too.

  • This week is my third full month of consistent weightlifting, which has honestly felt better than any previous PR. I’m a PT, so staying active has never been an issue for me but programming definitely was. A few months ago I finally sat down and put together a simple system for myself that plans my training ahead of time and adjusts based on the previous sessions exercises. It’s nothing fancy, but just gives me enough structure that I don’t have to think when I walk in the gym. Since then, consistency has been way easier, lifts are trending up, and training feels like something I do for myself again. I’m not fatigued from marking decisions anymore, and I’m super happy with the progress so far

    Congrats. What’s your system

  • Had a quite long break (3.5 month)due to some after covid symptoms (?)....idk, breathing is fine, but had some lingering weakness...

But feeling way better today! Did little cardio + stretching. Feels awesome. Gained some extra 7 pounds, but I think I will get in shape quickly...

Also I made massive reduction in sugar intake, so no more sugary stuff to me. let's see how I long I can last. But I noticed that there are no sugar cravings at all with me.

    Let's go!💪

    i cut sugar too

  • I just finished an eight week body transformation program and lost 3% of my body fat. Now we're out of town with family for the holidays and they eat garbage in general anyway. I don't have any access to a gym here locally so I'm stressed about giving back some or all of my progress this week.

Just keep moving - jogging, walking, do calisthenics. A week isn’t going to undo all your work so keep it in perspective and enjoy some time with your family.

You won't undo all your progress in a week and if you don't crazy overdo it most of the weight you gain back will be water. You might go up 5 lbs but once you dial back in you'll lose it all in about a week.

  • I’m 6’6” and it’s always been difficult to add strength and build muscle. I’m finally in a good rhythm and am noticing that my working sets are getting heavier than the other guys that go to my gym. I know it’s not a competition, but it feels good to finally be reaching my weightlifting goals.

  • I went to the gym Friday and for some reason I felt really good despite going to the gym all week going decently heavy . I decided to do a yolo bench and the next thing I knew I’m back up to a 365lb bench after like three years of being inconsistent and lazy. I’ve been going for Ike the last three months.

    Muscle memory ftw

  • I have a home gym- a Powertec- and I try to keep my workout under an hour, a PPL routine. I don't care what day it is, I just try to be consistent. I did legs on Monday and my push day Tuesday, but I missed Wednesday and Thursday we went skiing. My whole body was sore on Friday, so Saturday I was due for Push day again, but I had missed pull day. I decided to work both- I did a few less sets for each muscle group, but I still spend an hour and a half in the gym. It felt good, and now I can get back on cycle without feeling like I skipped back and biceps day.

  • Tried a new routine today—felt amazing!

  • I was stared down by this massive girl and my brain kept saying danger danger danger wee woo wee woo

  • Had a guy shadow boxing me everytime I was doing a set on lat pulldowns. Annoying but honestly pretty fun.

  • Saw a guy at the gym who through his shirt you could see he had a big upper body. I thought he was doing warm-ups for pull-ups. He was loosely hanging, doing some scapular retractions, twisting his body a little bit to the left and right. Got down, did some arm stretching. Got up, did a few more retractions, got down again.

I thought "here it comes, after all those warm-ups I'm about to see the most insane pull-ups of my life".

Then he walked away from the rack, got a ball, and started doing some yoga on the ground.

I bet he's rehabbing an injury, or his shoulder felt weird/not warmed up enough and he didn't want to risk doing pull-ups. I've definitely bailed on my lifts if something in my joints didn't feel right

Maybe. Just thought it looked funny after I hyped him up in my head.

  • Had a hilarious miscommunication with the trainer!

You played blind man’s bluff while they played charades?

Am i having a stroke, or are you?
