Welcome to the Physique Phriday thread

What's the point of having people guess your body fat? Nevermind that it's the most inaccurate method available, (read: most likely way wrong - see here) you're still just putting an arbitrary number to the body you have. Despite people's claim that they are shooting for a number, they're really shooting for look - like a six pack.

So let's stopping mucking around with trivialities and get to the heart of the matter. This thread shall serve two purposes:

  1. Physique critiques. Post some pics and ask about muscles or body parts you need to work on. Or specifically ask about a lagging body part and what exercises worked for others.
  2. An outlet for people that want to show off their efforts that would otherwise be removed due to Rule 4, and

  • This makes a lot of sense. Most people don’t actually want a body-fat number they want a certain look and how it makes them feel. Focusing on physique, proportions, and weak points is way more actionable than chasing an inaccurate estimate.

    Threads like this are useful when the feedback stays specific and respectful: “bring up shoulders,” “more back thickness,” “lean out a bit” things you can actually train for.

  • I wonder if there’s something wrong with my shoulders.

    I’ve noticed all muscles in my body grow, but shoulders seem the same, and you can notice these depressions in both — they look concave, not convex.

    Are they just underdeveloped or is it some genetics bs? I hit them with three exercises, including drop sets, I don’t know what else they want from me 🤣

    Underdeveloped. What program are you running?

    hey man you literally asked if they're just underdeveloped lol, you're worrying about optimizations at a stage when you should just be concentrating on workout intensity and frequency

    Already worked on that, though. Nearly a year hitting the gym at least 6 days per week.

    This picture is bad, but there are angles that show how small it is compared to the rest, hence why I’m asking before it gets much worse.

    Looks OK to me! Shoulders /dels are ridiculously hard to grow and the concavity in your pics stems from your triceps being more developed. So no, not a genetics thing, just get more volume in on shoulders (i.e. train more often). If i could recommend one exercise that helped me the most it would be jeff nippard‘s reverse fly machine variant - these blew my side delts up.

  • One of my legs is more defined than another, even though I do all of my leg exercises unilaterally and I can lift the same weights on both sides. It’s always looked like this as far as I remember (the non defined one is my dominant leg too)

    Barely noticeable.

    Unfortunately, some things are simply genetic and can’t be changed.

  • Hey, I'm 5'8 and I've noticed i have really long legs and a very short torso. I've also noticed I have wider hips than usual and its been pretty hard finding fits. Some part of me thinks its because of my proportions that my short torso makes it look like i have wider hips.

    Is there any way I can make my hips look smaller? I've been working out for the past year and doing standard Back/Triceps, Chest/Biceps, and Legs

    Your proportions look pretty normal tbh, might just be in your head. Try focusing more on building up your lats and shoulders - wider upper body will balance out your midsection and give you more of that V-taper look

    More upper body mass will make your hips look smaller.

  • These threads always remind me how different goals shape physiques, as a team sport guy, I stopped chasing a certain look once I realized it did nothing for my performance, being able to repeat sprints late in a match matters way more to me than visible abs. I do like seeing people ask for honest feedback on weak points though, that feels more useful than guessing body fat numbers. end of the day, if your training supports what you actually do, that is the win.

  • 4 years later and 6kg heavier

    I finally feel pretty good about where I'm at. Still would love another 3-4 kg of mass, but I have a marathon next year. Fingers crossed my trainer can get me running without losing too much mass.

    Looking great. A puffier chest would make you a 10.
