r/place was good until it started to become overrun by bots and admins cheating. Seems like Reddit has a habit of turning everything into shit. (including their logo)
One thing that really sucked the joy out of it was streamers who would recruit their fanbase to participate in it.
One person recruiting a couple hundred people is much less impressive than a couple hundred people coming together on their own and organizing something.
What if, instead of one global board for everyone, users got randomly put into small groups with mini-boards they could war over. Like 256 users per board.
I don't think as many people would bother to bot that, streamers couldn't reliably organize their fanbase, AND it'd lead to lots of unique boards with different art we could all look at in the end.
Some of the fun was subreddits uniting together to take a slice of the board. Maybe they have a global board, and then individual boards for large subs?
agreed, i had a blast teaming up and helping lead a subreddit take over a spot and create a piece of art of the main character of the anime the sub was based on
I loved the original r/place, even with the bots in the final stretch. But the moment the streamers discovered the second r/place it was all cringe. I don't know other streamers, but Spanish ones didn't even know anything about r/place or Reddit, it was just "pixel war" and the only important thing was how many sheeps followers each one had.
I definitely don't want another r/place just to see another massive streamer taking over.
I'm a Touhou fan but I didn't participate in the Bad Apple. I just lurked in the corners, and I would participate in the other stuff my other subreddits are doing. I believed what we did was stupid are wrong. I remember that one video of the Bad Apple timelapse, next to r/canada. The Canadians can't draw their flag, but us botters making fun of them
Tohou fans where defending the Osu! circle so hard that when a popular streamer came in and used his fans to destroy it, it got rebuilt so fast you wouldn't notice any kind of vandalism for the whole event.
And because they didn't have enough with that, they even freakin did a bad apple animation by creating each and every frame so you could appreciate the result in a timelapse. And no, they did NOT use bots for that.

I think we have a generational shift already. The last r/place was the very first one I participated in, and I believe very many people joined with it being so popular. And it was one of the most exciting things ever I’ve witnessed on the Internet. So for us newcomers it was the best thing ever happening. It’s still exciting. And I disagree with making it too rare. 2, 3 or maybe 4 years to recharge is ok, but 5 or 10 years? Then I’ll only have a couple of places left in my whole life, and I don’t wanna have that.
Apparently, supposedly some people are getting perma banned for mentioning his name (because it's the same name as the guy who shot that healthcare ceo)
u/spez is the CEO of reddit and everybody hates him bc he's the figurehead of reddit and thus behind all of the enshittification that we have experienced regarding the once beloved site.
i wish some russians hack this website and just remove him from the system altogether lol..well idk if it's possible as i aint a techie but i wish it happens. i want my good reddit back

I liked Place a lot, but I don't want it every year. Every 5 years seems like a good pace because it allows us to see the ways the site has grown and changed. If we have it every year it'll just get boring and stale.
No one's been interested in what I've had to say anyways
I've been suicidal my entire life and 3x suicide surviver
I've reached out for help multiple times over the years n all the government is worried about is the💰 they can get with you being in hospital or detained

a subreddit place would b cool then we could assemble them to be the whole of reddit!
No that sounds lame. It's much more fun to know everyone is on the same board.

no
The streamers are at least authentic and generally short lasting. Bots/scripts just make the entire thing pointless

AAAAND THE SIXTY-NINETH DOWNVOTE COMES FROM ME
Thank you for your service
Wow I thought you were a protogen for a second
They can't have an r/place this year because it will be filled with "fuck the USA"
It’s a real shame, because the entire rest of the world would’ve come together to make it happen. It would’ve genuinely unified a lot of people.
It would have been magnificent
As if they don't do this on every single sub ever anyways.
But that's what I came here for
When is the year they will have it again? Interested cause of other reasons.
Absolutely no one knows this answer.
Hopefully 2027 at the earliest
And a giant green Mario putting someone to sleep.
Nail. Head
It’s also likely due to most communities openly botting.
Wait so… this wasn’t an April Fools joke? The game is so laughably bad, I thought it was a prank before they re-launch r/place, no???
Admins too busy banning people for mentioning green Mario characters than to actually run a website.
Yoshi?
No, green Toad
Mario's brother.
Apparently, supposedly some people are getting perma banned for mentioning his name (because it's the same name as the guy who shot that healthcare ceo)
Damn, guess we gotta go back to green mario. Sorry weegee 😞
Believe it or not straight to jail
you mean Doctor Darius Denver?
I still have no idea who spez is and why everyone hates him im so lost
spez is the ceo of reddit , he banned the usage of 3rd party app on reddit also when someone commetted fuck spez he edited that comment ,, soo
FUCK u/spez
dont know that he edited the comment is real or not , heard it on reddit
Its real. He was caught doing it in almost every thread he participated in.
u/spez is the CEO of reddit and everybody hates him bc he's the figurehead of reddit and thus behind all of the enshittification that we have experienced regarding the once beloved site.

"Beloved"
I think he also "likes them young"
spazzing about spez, but now I know thanks to your comment train
I still don't know what's the point of the field anyway

All they had to do to fix r/place is make everyone complete a captcha before placing a dot. Then bots cannot place dots.
It was so simple, idk how they messed up this bad.
true
I mean, r/place is cool and all, but I like that there is some variation.
Place was cool and fun to watch. This shit in "field" is dumb as fuck. What a joke
It's like "Oh you liked that canvas where people could be creative together? Yea fuck the creativity, just fill this with your color!
I am still of the opinion that ever couple of years is the best for r/place. Also f. Spez
Can we please start over or send a notification
I don't even know what spaz is what field means and why place is gone
What is this rfield about how do I play?
Exactly. Like what is this
I can't tell if it's reddit fucking with us and it's a fake game for April fools or if it's a real game that just makes zero sense.
What are we doing here? I placed some pink blocks without knowing what it does.
Is it just a way to get us to verify our emails?
How do I get this stupid icon to go away? I don’t know what this group is and I want nothing to do with it.
🙌🤝
Bam?
Magneto
😂
H
Field is garbage!
So then, just to fuck with people, I make it 16 😈😝
Yeah. Reddit "let's try something different but make it super lame!" Woohoo
+1
I don’t get it, what did spez do? (r/place was better though)
He made Reddit (r/place was better tho)
???
Look some comments below where they explain who spez is (r/place was better tho)
The fuck is this field bollocks?
r/fuckspez
r/mid
You are a god damn genius
This stupid asf fuk up SPEZ
I don't know what field is, I've not tried it, but I know that I hate it.
My man!
I ain’t even apart of this subreddit and I get it in my feed since it’s been a thing
Field is just a poor man’s minesweeper
This should be pinned to the sub.
Long Live, Team Flamingo 🦩.
I liked Place a lot, but I don't want it every year. Every 5 years seems like a good pace because it allows us to see the ways the site has grown and changed. If we have it every year it'll just get boring and stale.
Came here because of the stupid logo change
how does this game work?
I contributed to so many FUCK SPEZ's in the fields. I am proud of myself
I never got to try r/place, but I've seen it a few times, and now I want it too, it looks better than r/field!
Soo true. #fuckspez #r/placewasbetter
I don't understand anything of what's going on 😭
I tried it, HOT GARBAGE. Bring back r/place
Tried it as well and calling it boring would be a compliment due to how bad it is I want r/place back
Get this fuckass game off my reddit
You all can hate him but cannot defeat him!
I don't get r/field do you have to claim squares at random to reveal special squares that give your team a point? That's fuckin' lame.
Boo spez

Hey man, u good? Do you wanna talk about something?
Nah I'm good talking only makes it worse but it's true I'll be doing it in a few days time just in time for my mother's birthday
No one's been interested in what I've had to say anyways I've been suicidal my entire life and 3x suicide surviver I've reached out for help multiple times over the years n all the government is worried about is the💰 they can get with you being in hospital or detained
Need a better game! tbh
R/place was way better than whatever this was supposed to be
Juice Box rules
Please no hate. Just honestly asking. Why am I in this and what does this mean?
I’m just loving all the tiny “fuck spez”s appearing on r/field
Bruh let them do something new. r/place every year would get boring
Fuck Spez
What
Bring r/place back!!!
I absolutely hate how this is grouped into teams and all like it’s so weird and the gameplay lasts what, 4 seconds?
it will sound like a stupid question, but why does it seem like all the people here hate him so much? (I'm new to reddit)
Test
Passed
Haha I lost the game and it said I was banned, so I wanted to see
Fuck Spez!
What is r/Place I don't get it?
Place was awesome
Laughs in The Button.
fuck spez
who is spez?
owner of reddit and distinctly subpar person
In r/place would be to much criticism against trump. We get r/field to shut up... 😫
Welcome to the club
u/spez you're an asshole
I 1 the sandbox.
Agreed
best one so far
