At least he’s got the cowboy hat to go with the cowboy attitude

He needs an umbrella just in case.

    1 points HuntsWithRocks

I think you’re supposed to extend the hat up while holding firm then land in a jumping position. Of course, aim for the bushes if you can.

    That's one crazy feller.

    parent

    Feller? Nice

    parent root
  • 61 points Abadayos

    That’s sketchy as fuck lmao

    parent
    10 points ktappe

Depends on how well anchored the ladder is to the bucket. If it’s just floating there with no attachments, I agree it’s sketchy AF.

    parent root
    26 points rsm-lessferret

Even with attachments that's a lot of torque to be putting on the bucket if it stops being supported by the tree

Bravery would be using an extension ladder, tbh

    parent
    19 points damxam1337

Start unfolding and extending that "Little Giant" ladder. 😂

I would absolutely belong to a sub specifically for inappropriate uses of little giant ladders

Yeah, fine. But bravery is different from a death wish.

    parent
  • 4 points fortunatefeist

Is he tethered to the ladder?

    parent
  • 5 points Quiet-Competition849

This might be a dumb question, but what is his goal? To cut the top off? Is so why not do it from the spot the bucket reaches?

    parent
    17 points please_and_thankyou

Those dead fronds you see hanging down in the thumbnail can weigh 40-70lbs each, sometimes more. If they fall on their own people can get really hurt. So in addition to the threat of falling, there’s also the fact that trimmers regularly get trapped under the weight and die.

Also, rats love making nests in those piles up there.

    parent root
    15 points Own_Government7654

would 40 to 70lbs be enough to knock over a precarious ladder placed in the bucket of a max height boom truck? 🤔

oh well, not worth answering the question, there is work to be done!

    parent root
    5 points highdiver_2000

    Use Extendable pole saw?

    parent root
    1 points BaliGod

I don’t believe they make 60’ pole saws because physics would prevent a human from operating them

    parent root
    13 points Rustymarble

Probably clean out the dead branches so they don't fall unpredictabily

    parent root
    7 points tuigger

My guess is that there isn't a lot of room to drop stuff below the palm tree and he doesn't have any rigging equipment/good personnel below to make that work so he is going to take it whole or at least pop the top.

It can be hard to get a good high-tie on a palm tree if you want fell it; doing so will give you more leverage. You want 2/3rds of the tree at least.

This guy was going for the highest high tie he could get.

As long as he doesn't try to fell it from the ladder, this isn't the dumbest idea. A bit unsafe -I would have remained strapped into the bucket at least if I was going to do something like this- but it's not braindead as long as he has a decent drop zone.

From what I can tell just from the video he will try to cut the palm tree in half and get it to land in the area sectioned off by the plastic bollards where his truck is now. I'm guessing he will move his truck and cut it from the back now that he doesn't need maximum reach.

Edit; NM, it looks like he's lashing the ladder to the palm tree to hold it steady so he can trim the dead branches. That's dumb af.

That ladder is probably in that bucket safer than 90% of ladder placements ON THE GROUND ive seen in videos on reddit

Fuck me man. Like why aren't the police there or something. Like if you were doing something that's going to hurt yourself any other time they'd be there saying stop that .. surely that's not allowed 😅

    parent
    9 points sumtwat

What the fuck? You want cops acting like OSHA now? Cops don't even know the law and you want them to be the all knowing enforcers of everything.

    Get down or I'll shoot!

    parent root
    4 points ItsAllBotsAndShills

Just have the cops shoot the palm fronds down.

    parent root
    2 points Halstock

Haha nah I mean I'm kidding, it's just crazy that people can do shit like that, when it's likely to cause harm to themselves or others.
