The scariest character in the show

  • 2218 points Whipwreckeded

The actor who plays her is absolutely nailing the barely suppressed madness.

Smiles and things that seem genuine but in the eyes there’s a whole other thing going on.

She’s doing an incredible job, steals every scene she’s in.

Edit: Just in the eye really lol

Editedit: Annabel O’Hagan is her name to give her proper credit, u/NoRelationToZorn helpfully linked her IG in the comments below.

    parent root

The guy who plays Chet is also a great pair with her, his "oh god" expressions and quiet realization that she's gone off the deep end, trying to keep her pleased and the general "what the heck am I supposed to do now" moments really help frame her as a credible danger to everyone in the vaults. Gotta say, the casting is great.

    parent root
    17 points Whipwreckeded

    Aye, he’s also fantastic.

He’s a big guy but makes himself seem small if that makes sense?

I forget the exact wording but his delivery of something like

“…because I’m a coward. We all are, we live in a vault”

Was just spot on. Totally agree with you about the casting. Everyone is killing it in their roles.

    parent root
    12 points Macca_Pacca_123

Everything 50s makes them look older because we assume it's in the past. It's a weird thing our heads do.

Like a picture of someone 10 years younger in 50s attire just looks more formal, more businesslike and older as well as the association with our elders like we probably all are related to someone still alive from the 50s.

Even a child in an old photo we look at and automatically assume they are older because of the feeling the picture gives.

She’s for sure done some horrendous things while in the annexed territory to survive going by what she says to Betty.

    parent
    224 points Major-Tiger-7628

I’m wondering if her plan is to destroys the three vaults as revenge for America invading Canada. One vault is already empty, another is about to collapse because of the water chip. So she’ll only have one to worry about destroying

    parent root
    189 points Josze931420

Calling it now, the late-season twist will be that she sabotaged the water chip

    parent root
    131 points Goldman250

Well, she definitely killed those raiders after failing to manipulate Norm into doing it, so her sabotaging the water chip wouldn’t be the first time she’s acted against the Vault’s best interests.

    parent root
    16 points El-Grunto

Keeping the raiders alive was in Vault 33's best interest?

    parent root
    8 points Goldman250

Oh, I agree that killing them was the right move - especially after the broken water chip thing turned out to be real (when they first revealed it, I assumed they were faking it to invent a fixable crisis to distract people). I mean more like, she did it behind everyone’s backs after letting Norm paint a target on his own back.

    parent root
    84 points Darkdragoon324

I think she’s just power tripping and also hates Betty. Betty seems to imply they’ve had beef in the past.

So she just wants to rule her vault and doesn’t really care if everyone in 33 dies.

    parent root
    76 points AhhFrederick

Based on the convo they had last episode, it feels insinuated the Steph in some way still wants to carry on Vault-Tec’s mission since Betty had to keep reiterating “The company isn’t coming back it’s just us”.

I think with the mention of phase 2, FEV, and Hanks keepsake box, combined with the water chip having been destroyed, there’s definitely something behind the scenes that’s about to happen. My guess is the “super” managers are forced to undergo FEV in some way.

    parent root
    23 points Major-Tiger-7628

Betty was a secretary right? She probably also knows what phase 2 is. Maybe that’s phase 1 once all the buds have been released. The water chips break so the vault dwellers leave and move over to the phase 2 location to create the ‘super’ managers into super mutants leaders

I don’t think Hank is in the phase 2 location cause that seems to be all about mind control and doesn’t make sense why it would be by NV. Unless he’s actually ment to be working on mind control for super mutants

    parent root
    12 points AhhFrederick

Yeah I feel like the FEV will be applied to either A. the group following Norm (becoming literal “super managers”) or that Hank’s keepsake that Betty is supposed to get has FEV and one of the Overseers will use it on the opposite vault.

Honestly I didn’t even think about Betty knowing everything until now. We know she’s complicit in the bombing of Shady Sands and we know she’s pre-war. But with the framing of her character in S2, is seems likely her guilt is starting to change her ideals. I think Steph will be the “Vault-Tec bad guy” for the 31,32,32 plot and Betty will work to turn things around and fix the craziness she helped to create (not that we should forgive her or anything).

Edit: also I think Reg’s little temper tantrum about his in-breeding party will also help to seed chaos within the vaults. Maybe this is all supposed to result in the vaults being abandoned later on.

    parent root
    4 points cylonfrakbbq

I wouldn’t be shocked if the Reg group becomes ground zero for FEV introduction. There was a trailer showing all the Reg group acting odd and extra glutinous. I think Vault 33 gets purged by FEV introduction, leaving 32 as the sole vault. Norm’s group I think at some point will try to access 33 and chaos ensues

    parent root
    23 points eVelectonvolt

I honestly get more a vibe that she’s basically miss-capitalism and wanted to defeat all the competition and be Buds ultimate victor by removing the competition in her path. So performing sabotage but for her own power grab purposes.

I think Hank is pretty nutso

    parent root
    58 points cutofmyjib

Agreed, I think they are equally nuts and morally bankrupt, but we haven't yet seen what she's fully capable of.

Hank had a family as a cover and ghoul-efied his daughter's mother in the process of nuking a town and probably wouldn't hesitate to kill his daughter too if she happened to get in the way of his plans.

She manipulated the former gate keeper into replacing her "husband" and looking after her baby a day after her "husband" was brutally murdered.

    parent root
    27 points celestaire

She keeps calling the baby "it" instead of "him" and it makes my skin crawl every time.

    parent root
    8 points Faiakishi

I want Chet to leave her and take the baby. He's raising him, his baby now.

    parent root
    5 points Faiakishi

I very much doubt Hank would harm either of his children, at least as he is right now. Not because of fatherly love or anything, but because he views family and legacy as something sacred.

    parent root
    20 points Riliksel

I think Hank just didn't had his chance to shine yet. He is a different kind of crazy from her.

Hank is a fucking psychopath, just look at his scenes in the Vault-Tec facility. We didn't had the chance to see the REAL Hank interacting with someone on the same level.

    parent root
    3 points MunkTheMongol

Yeah, she seems to be more of the unstable type. Makes sense considering she woke up in a tomb 200 years after the apocalypse and was a part of buds buds

    parent root
    20 points DeyUrban

She’s scary to watch because the people in the vault are completely defenseless. They are simply not prepared for whatever she might do to them, and so her barely contained insanity makes her scenes with other people tense. Quintus, Hank, etc. exist on the outside world where people like the Ghoul can and will fight back on relatively even footing.

    parent root
    39 points Cotif11

All the capitalists that engineered the apocalypse are the real bad guys and not the losers squabbling for the refuse of a forgotten world? Sounds like real life.

    parent root
    16 points SerHodorTheThrall

You're responding to someone who said even the legion. As if the Legion wasn't always a hilarious joke of a faction like the Railroad lol

And she has no sway over any important characters unless you care about the Vault randos who are clearly more likely to die from their own societal dysfunction rather than Mad Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

    parent root

I feel like Hanks been like comic book evil this season. More like 1950s Joker really. Like he's obviously a crazy piece of shit but there's a sort of dark comedy about his shenanigans.

There is no humor in that woman's dead eye. She'll burn you to ash and not even crack a one liner.

    parent root
    5 points Sage_of_the_6_paths

I mean at least with Hank we know what he's capable of now and we have some idea of what his agenda is, and we know his potential weakness is his family.

Steph is a wild card who has sort of enslaved Chet with little effort, seems to be confident enough to go head to head with Betty now, knows about something that Betty doesn't know despite being out of the ice longer, and we just found out she's originally Canadian which further complicates what we can expect from her. Is she loyal to Vault-Tec? Is she loyal to Canada? Something else? Not to mention we clearly see that her "personality" is pretty fabricated.

If she is anything like ‘a new play through’ than, we are just getting started with the violence!

The scariest character in a post-apocalyptic show about 2200s USA:

    A Canadian.

    Checks out lol

    parent
    6 points Cyhawk

Canadians, especially ones who keep their ID are enemies. The US annexed Canada in 2077. Many of them were terrorists and theres a good chance she is one.

    6 points Josze931420

Well gee it's almost like the Canadians really didn't appreciate getting invaded, rounded up, and executed (shout-out to the original Fallout).

I have a sinking feeling that she will inject her baby with FEV…

    parent
    3 points Rosebunse

I feel like we aren't talking about the fact that this woman is so devoted to her ideals that she carried and birthed a baby just to keep up the act. And she clearly doesn't seem to like said baby very much.

    parent root
    8 points whattheshiz97

Yeah she seems rather indifferent to her baby… also her being one of the prime vault tec psychos from before the war doesn’t inspire any confidence in her sanity

The monster revealed vs the monster created!

Her and Lucy's showdown will be glorious. But I'm sure her popularity will ruin the shows trajectory and everyone will be disappointed GOT style 😅

Yep she knows something we don't. She could be Enclave, the Canadian id could be fake, is she working for House? So many questions so little answers.

  • 9 points myLongjohnsonsilver

    She could fix me.

This is secretly what all Canadians are like.

I think I have a crush on her

    parent
  • 6 points RedEclipse47

Right now my, wishful thinking, albe it toxic, is that Steph is or will become a Enclave agent, or even presidential candidate.

Her being Canadian might mean that's not possible, but I can see it work as she's a complete psychopath.

  • 6 points hotsizzler

Her corporate talk is very scary.

    She’s a baddie

    parent
  • 6 points Sufficient_Doubt4283

When Woody went to leave after confronting her about meeting up with Betty, for a moment I genuinely thought she was gonna just straight up stab and kill him right then and there.

Im really excited (and a bit scared) to see how things go down, she is a (atom) bomb (baby) just waiting to go off.

  • 9 points VaultGuy1995

I've known plenty of women like this, so I have a visceral hatred of her despite how hot she is

    parent
  • 5 points Mind_Killer

She's so great. Really nails that balance between sweet and creepy. Even in a completely normal universe, I'd let her be my Overseer.

  • 5 points Dapper-Meaning-8006

I saw a comment from another redditor on a post a month ago, it said she has the closest personality to become a raider boss and after watching this last episode holy shit was it spot on. She doesn’t give. DAMN about the others lol

  • 3 points DamnDude030

    She's Canadian!! She's terrifying!

I hope Chet manages to get away from her, poor fella.

    parent
  • 3 points N00BAL0T

Yea she just gives off the psychotic person feel about her. Especially with how soft everyone in the vault was.

    parent
  • 3 points Empper2211

Dude after the last episode I can’t wait for them to expand on her character.

    parent
  • 3 points Formal_Equipment1651

    I can fix her

  • 3 points YellowBelliedCoward

I'm really not into the vault storyline.

    I know she’s Enclave, I just can’t prove it.
