Kickass was the absolute greatest imo
Amazing how after it was seized and all the copycats came out, it lost its reputation (of course it wasnât their fault as it wasnât the originals work) and the copycats showed no respect
Demonoid was the OG greatest site. Had everything, especially the most obscure things. Loved Kickass too though.
I had such a great ratio on Demonoid. Back then I was proud of having shared 4tb of uploads. Pocket change by today's standards.
But didn't someone drag Demonoid back from the grave? I don't think it's the least bit trustworthy.
Yeah, I think it might still exist. I checked it out a few years ago but it was a shadow of what it was before the dude who ran it got busted, and I never went back.
The founder is believed to have past away in an accident.

Nah, supernova and mininova were the best...but im probably showing my age
Holy shit I forgot all about those! Memories
One of the only websites I miss, it really was the best! I weep every time I see a 'kat.' website..
It was so prolific that someone even named an archive site of specifically Sonic related ripped media TailsKicksAss at one point
I have not used it in a long time but Frostwire is adware, right?
Alright we just scanned it and looks like adware to me. Thanks for letting us know, I'll get it added to the list.

It's a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). Like Kaspersky says it's "NotAVirusDownloader", so.
God, this subreddit is my favorite on the site. It's simple, detailed to the point and without any bullshit. You get all your info in concise, well made format from a community you know you can trust. I love you!

Oh man, the days of using TPB and KAT are long gone. I still remember using KAT back when they kept getting shut down, one website after another and they'd be back with a new one within a few hours to days. RIP to those old sites.
Also fond memories of btjunkie.org and Demonoid.
Wow, I haven't heard of Demonoid in so long, brings back memories.
Man... Demonoid was so amazing.
They taught me to seed because they had a ratio system that tracked your progress and it was awesome to get those big D to U numbers.
What's like, the best place now?
RUTracker, TorrentGalaxy, 1337x for movies / music.
Demonoid is also still around, just not as active as it used to be. It could make a comeback though if more people started showing it some love.

My main public site. Searching with IMDb tags is 10/10, especially when paired with https://greasyfork.org/scripts/376793-imdb-to-rarbg-torrent-search
Ooo saving this for later! I've just been using 1337x as my main open on a .arr stack with Plex and this seems way better. Does this work with docker?
No idea.
Thanks for the list
any recommendation for torrent software to use?
edit: thanks for the fast replies, installed qbittorrent as recommended.
Qbittorrent is the most popular one amongst pirates
This is what I use on everything. Including my headless Linux machine through the webgui. It has everything I need it to do.
qBittorrent?
Transmission
Doesnât have every feature imaginable, but itâs simply a no-BS client
Edit: also try this subredditâs wiki â Transmission is second listed, after qBittorrent.
I was using Transmission 15 years ago, glad to hear it's still going strong!
Qbittorrent is nice foss client
And if you use a VPN, you can bind qBit to your VPN network adapter in qBit settings.
Shouldn't be an if. Unless you're in a country where piracy is completely ignored, a good VPN is a must
my policy is not paying for piracy
qbittorrent, deluge, transmission, picotorrent, etc etc
I use picotorrent because it's the better minimum. It downloads and that's it. Sadly it doesn't have dark mode...
Can't we just use sites with malicious ads with adblocker like Ublock origin?
Yeah you could. The sites are still out there for anyone who chooses to use them, but we just feel its best for the community to not direct people towards anything potentially malicious.
Understood, thanks
That's why I still use steamunlocked, but MY GOD does it have slow download speeds
you can use a download manager to speed up things a little, but its still such a fucking pain for anything larger than 2 gigabytes
[removed]
You should also add TLauncher (Minecraft) to the list, it recently was exposed as spyware and malicious both on YouTube and in the piratedgames subreddit.
TLauncher is not spyware, but it is malicious. That analysis from piratedgames is dogshit
Alright fair enough, I think its probably best to keep it on the list but I'll use the thread you sent instead.
At least TPB still has a official site, KAT has been dead for a long time and all you have these days are just copycats using other sites for torrents.
So stop using KAT completely.
You guys are doing God's work. Thank you
note that igg games also uploads to torrent sites like 1337x and such, most of the time their releases are fine but its a good idea to get them checked out of anything sketchy before launching the game
How do check them? Is virustotal enough?
virustotal and a check of the folder with defender/malwarebytes should be more than enough
What happened with crackshash?
The guys on /r/SoftwarePirates found malware in one of their releases last year while scanning sites for their megathread. I'm not sure if it's happened again since then, but probably best to avoid them.

CCleaner was pretty good years ago. Any alternatives out there that people recommend?
Windows 11 has a built in feature now called Storage Sense, it can be set to run on a schedule and clears up space, deleted temp files etc. It word well for me.
Was thinking with Windows 11 it may not be necessary to use a 3rd party cleaner tool anymore.
Can you recommend something for windows 10?
Yes, Windows 11 đ
But seriously, for Win10 I'd just do the actions manually or download an older version of CCleaner, v5.44 is before the introduced their active monitoring BS.
See HowToGeek : here for further details
Thanks

Oh, so I don't forget - if not an issue, add to the list those FitGirl-Repacks clones considering she's likely the most popular game repacker. Her website ends in .site, the rest are fakes filled with malware.
And quick question about Opera - I am using Firefox as my main browser, but I use Opera's built in VPN to access WoWHead because they blocked my country. That's the only thing I use it for, so: 1) Am I in danger by just having it installed? 2) Is there an option for me to somehow access WoWHead from Firefox without a free VPN? I don't want to pay one just to access one site occasionally.
beware! there is a fake fitgirl-repacks.site , its exactly the same name as the original except it has no s at the end. of course if you have ublock origin with malware filter list activated, it wont allow you to access the site.
real: fitgirl-repacks.site
fake: fitgirl-repack.site
You are kidding me. Although I ever used her installers to find her website, I remember she stated that her website only ends in .site hence why I mentioned it. Damn, those people really are fucking awful.
I think using Proton's free plan is fine. They would have a lot on the line if caught doing shady business with their free VPN customers.
Just checked out the impressions, seems other Redditors are satisfied. I will consider it, certainly sounds like a better alternative to Opera. Still, it is a bit bothersome to have a VPN for WoWHead alone. I keep wondering if there isn't some easier option, like copying WoWHead's link into some website that can access it for me.
Proton has split-tunneling if that makes it any easier; https://i.gyazo.com/5882023b0a314d9b570ad9dfdfb3bd94.png
There are other free VPNs like Proton or Windscribe. Windscribe has a monthly datacap, but it should be enough if you just use it for one website. It also has a browser extension, which Proton doesn't.
Can PolyMC be included in the list? The owner of the PolyMC github repo removed all members from his repo. The owner now has the potential to distribute malware to all players using the launcher.

Does anyone know if vimmslair is fine to use?
I used it for SMG1 and had no issues pretty sure their fine
Yes.
In general, ROMs themselves are quite unlikely to have malware, I think. The worst you can get on ROM sites is weird ass exe downloaders, which Vimm doesn't have. And annoying ads.
Vimms is good
Always found them to be safe and reliable. I had 1 game flag my virus scanner once but aside from that never any problems.
I've been using vimmslair for a long time, I've never had issues.
vimm is fantastic.
Oof. if this list is a bingo card, I'm aiming for blackout. Time to uninstall.
whats an alternative to avast?
As long as you stick to trusted sites you should be fine with just windows defender and maybe an occasional malwarebytes scan. Also remember to always scan the setup / installation file when getting games or software with something like virustotal.
thanks!

Defender
Microsoft defender is surprisingly good nowadays. That and scan launcher files of games/software with virus total.
Defender is supposedly good, but I don't have any real experience with it. In corporate environment I can see it's working pretty well and it scores well in detection tests. I am not sure how well it handles heuristic analysis, I need to do some research around it.
Malwarebytes is one of the very best you can get.
Kaspersky. Now this may be controversial, but personally I think it just got caught up in a proxy war between US and Russia. Eugene Kaspersky himself swore he isn't sharing any info with Russian gov because if he got caught just once, even if there was a tiniest suspicion, his business would be royally screwed and finished, and even Russia doesn't want to lose one of its bigger companies that contributes so much to the economy.
Windows defender is good enough, but IIRC you can augment it with Malwarebytes
Kaspersky hands down best

Would love to see a list of font sites added to this (if a problem exists there). Iâm often looking for fonts to use but so many sites seem super sketchy.
Thank you for posting this. It's really helpful to have an up-to-date list of what to watch out for and why.

Ohh, Iâm currently using Opera and AVG. Time to uninstall them. Are there any alternatives that I would like to check out?
Use Firefox as Chromium based browsers are going to be severely handicapped when it comes to Adblocking in the near future.

i thought FreeGOGPCGames was safe since it's listed in the fmhy website
Yeah sorry for the confusion, someone said they were connected to IGG, so we removed them to be safe, but as far as I can tell that isn't true, so we've re-added them recently. I just removed it from this list as well.
thanks for the clarification. i got nervous since I mainly use that site along with fitgirl's
I only use opera for their own free vpn service. I tried some add-on (free) on Firefox but theyâre all very cheap, some of them doesnât even work at all, and data protection is unknown. Iâm gambling here
Riseup vpn is pretty good for me. And free obviously
Thanks mate

What's the problem with AVG and Avast? I thought they were safe
Avast is safe as a program. They are very keen on you giving them your data, often in return for additional features, which there is a suggestion that they sell on. They certainly put a lot of pop-ups offering upgrades unless you disable then.
AVG is now owned by Avast so they no longer have competitive pressure to have a clean, non intrusive presence and not to sell your data.
Thank you for your answer, I got scared for a second!
Im sorry to be so dumb but what is the difference between a "scene" and regular torrent?

Thanks <3
Dam I thought onstream was safe i will now be deleting it!
Steamunlocked with an adblocker is okay, but takes many minutes or hours to download games
not anymore
[deleted]
Yeah nice I'll get them added next to it.
is fmovies still kosher? idk, i been using it for a couple years but recently it seems to have changed something and my anti virus is giving me a warning of sorts
Yeah its still safe. They updated their UI recently but besides that I don't think anything else has really changed. There are lots of other good options too like soap2day, movie-web, justchill if you want something different.
Can you comment about the safety of movie-web's sources? What is Superstream exactly? Is there background torrenting involved on any of the main sites? Stremio I know does it
Then bitrate is another topic, DDL would be most reliable but for streaming purposes why does movie-web seem to only use H.264?
I don't remember if I got it here but the "FMHY Unsafe Sites / Software" filter on uBlockOrigin can't be updated. I checked why and it is because the GitHub of the filter is down.
This is truly awesome dude, honestly, a big huge thanks, Iâm sure everyone who comes across your posts feels the same. As someone whoâs always had iot devices (25 years or so) and have been active online for years and years but donât have a comp science/dev background at all, having this type of ref could have saved me a few more issues throughout, and probably will. Good job.
I'd honestly add Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge in Software / Apps right with Opera. At this point, I don't see any reason to use either of those browsers for their garbage privacy practices and untrustworthiness, over alternatives like Firefox and Brave.
So 1331x is monitored right? So if i where to get a CracksHash fix from there what are the odds that its maleware?
I believe so. There is always a small whisk of malware from torrent sites, but 1337x is well moderated so just use common sense and ma defender and youâll be fine

Accord? The mac discord client? Wow, didnât expect that.
Modded Central is marked with a Star â in android/iOS, but after joining the group, they are sharing from CracksHash which is marked as virus
So, I'm not really sure if the modded Central it's the real one after the ban on telegram
I still use TPB for most things with no problems at all, it's a shame it's not considered trustworthy anymore. I do miss KAT, though.
As for browsers, I can't recommend Vivaldi highly enough, even though it runs on Chromium. They're aware of the looming issue with adblocking, and are actively working to refine their built-in adblocker so that it can stand on its own.

I should add that AppValley/TutuBox also owns Ignition(dot)fun, a store that used to have a good reputation before the owner of AppValley scammed the owner of Ignition out of the site.
I've added you on Divolt and can definitely provide more details if needed, however if you go to the site right now you'll see it's just a clone of AppValley/TutuBox.
I regularly use filecr.com . Has anyone else found malware in the scan?
FileCR it's complicated, you'll get what you want, if you have knowledge and experience about, because when crack iObit uninstaller for exemple, he will give you, the installer, instructions (txt file), and 2 another files to apparently crack, but only one of them has the file needed to crack, the other is probably malicious, because not need to crack
The 2 files are compressed (zip/rar), if you have a competent antivirus, it will delete the malicious file when it is extracted, to crack the iObit uninstaller, you just need "version.dll", you move this dll and replace the original one (in the program files) that has the same name, so the crack is performed, the other file contains 2 other unnecessary dll's
Maybe you're wondering why you should trust that, so I'll answer you, take the test yourself, download the crack of this program there, usually the two compressed files are "Activator_By_ActVer.zip" and "Generic-Hook-bb2018.rar", you will have these two files that will be compressed into another compression from FileCR and will have a text file with crack instructions
And yeah, the "version.dll" works to crack, as I said. It's safe, just know about...
Safe software sites ?
Any updates on OnStream?
ty!
I think you all should use archive.org links for the reddit links mentioned in the post.
Just in case...
i just downloaded ticktick and wordweb from Filecr.com and it seems the keygens and patches that are provided in zip files are malware (i uploaded to virustotal link ). My question is should i trust virus total with its results? And for TICKTICK app the same file is uploaded everywhere so im sure they are malware too.
i just saw in about section of Filecr.com that theyre like search engine for cracked files. So its better to be more cautious before installing from there.
Yeah virustotal can be useful, but only for scanning things like set up files or installers. Anything like a keygen, crack, patch etc. is gonna give sketchy looking results 100% of the time.
Has anyone probed on TeamOS HKRG? I've downloaded several Windows 11 slim/debloated versions from there and magically after some hours of fresh installing it on 2 PC's and 1 laptop, all the accounts logged in on those have been magically logged into places/IP addresses that are not mine.

Oh, I used to use Oceanofgames a lot as a kid who wanted free stuff but didn't know how to pirate properly. This explains a lot
1337x - 1337x admins allowing BG3 torrent with bitcoin miner stand after multiple reports in comments with proof, He is working with the admins. the coins mined go to the admins wallet and vitamin gets a 30% cut. They allow igg game to be on there https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/15itrip/1337x\_admins\_allowing\_bg3\_torrent\_with\_bitcoin/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
Alright thanks for the heads up. I responded to the situation here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PiratedGames/comments/15j68o8/mod_update_1337x/juy7jc4/
I found malware on Cybermania.ws, it isn't safe - Autodesk license patcher 2024 - it got 28 on virus total and bunch of red flags. what is up with allpcworld.com? It is from r/Piracy wiki as safe...
I'm not sure about AllPCWorld, but yeah CyberMania has a bad track record.
Life saving, cheers !
How about is the security of these browsers?
Microsoft Edge
Mozilla Firefox
Falkon
Google Chrome
Brave
Up
PolyMC (minecraft launcher) needs to be removed. It was a fully conscious decision from the owner. Doesn't matter if you agree with him or not, but the important thing is that: security is NOT compromised and NEVER was. It's a perfectly safe fork of MultiMC. A discord screenshot isn't enough to keep it on there anyways.
Thank you

I'd give ones here a shot
https://www.reddit.com/r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH/wiki/download/#wiki_.25BA_software_sites
Whatâs the deal with TeamOS? It feels super shady. Iâve downloaded multiple files that got flagged as malware by VirusTotal, like 35/60 detections. The instructions even said to run the files as admin! When I reached out to the mods or the author, they just kept saying itâs a false positive every single time. Seriously??
I'm not too sure but we don't have them listed I dont think, we'd need more proof like VT scans in order to add them to unsafe, but there are probably better sources.
