I have a theory that the origin of my FND is genetic. Here me out:
When I was 3-4 months old, my eyes unaligned. In many people, this would have resulted in double vision. My brain, as my vision therapist pointed out to me years later, was highly adaptable and turned off one of my eyes. So my brain's first response to bodily adversity was to shut down that part of the body. As an adult, when my brain perceived loss of agency, its first response was to shut down my body.

So now I'm wondering if others with FND have lazy eyes or other medical issues since childhood/infancy.

  • Yep. On the left side, had patching as a child. Now I have FND, the majority of my symptoms are also left sided.

  • Someone likely dropped you and denied it. But I have spotting in my eyes and it looks staticky when I pee.

  • I’ve had ADHD my whole life. But wasn’t diagnosed until 2 years prior to FND.

  • I patched my eye as a kid for a lazy eye!!

  • i’ve also got a lazy eye (left) and a couple other eye defects (both). It’s funny because my left side is the one that gives me the most trouble, i never noticed that correlation until now.

i was also born anemic and (more recently) have a suspected autoimmune issue, so maybe they also play parts in it.
