I'm pumping. I always planned on it since I will be a working mama. Couldn't get baby to latch fresh out the womb. But we still try from time to time. I know there's always a chance he could still latch.

I was doing pretty good. Pumping 3-5 ounces each pump. Pumping every three hours for 15 - 20 minutes. I got to the point where I was a whole days worth ahead because we started supplementing with formula for night feeds.

But from day one I've had issues maintaining a good schedule. I went back to the hospital for preclampsia and got put on bed rest. Doctor literally told me to sleep through the night so my bp stayed down. Then I was sick. Then here recently at 3 weeks pp my dad needed a huge multi bypass surgery. I was away for two whole days. And my boyfriend blew through our entire backup supply. Which that's what it's for. But still sucks.

Now my output has dropped. 🙃 And my little guy is only wanting more. He's eating about 3oz right now. He goes through about two cluster feeds a day. I'm trying to pump every two to three hours. I think ultimately I'm going to have to power pump. He'll be four weeks soon. I'm just going to have to keep trucking as best as I can.

  • It's ok if you have to power pump, there were points when I was power pumping twice a day. If it helps, there are lots of ways to powerpump so you don't need to do a strict timing one.

Realistically it sounds like you've been through A LOT. If what you need to do is rest and your supply drops, that's ok. Some breast milk is better than none, but also it's not magic and it's not worth your wellbeing.
