My nice pumping space has been invaded.... No more big comfy chair, just half a table for the pump + lunch or computer. But "we put the table by the window for you!" Great, so my options are exposing myself completely to the parking lot or pumping in the semi-dark ... Semi-dark because the table is too close to the window to close the blinds, so the second option just obscures my face from the window, the pump is still fully visible....

My only comfort is that I stole some pillows from the break room ....

  • if you’re in the US, I highly recommend looking into the FLSA’s requirements for nursing workers. one such requirement is a space that is shielded from view and free from intrusions.

  • Hey so if you're in the US this is illegal. You can call the labor board and they'll help you figure out your options

  • At least you have a window 🫠 at my last job I could either be crammed in the server room with a folding chair or pump at my desk, which was effectively just a big open room where everyone passed through, hung out, popped onto computers. I pumped at my desk because I couldn't afford the time away every three hours to get all the work done that was on my plate, and no I didn't apologize for the sound of my wearables.

I just started a new job today and I have no idea where my office will be yet lol. I'm currently sitting in my car on my lunch break power pumping. It's totally fine for now because they don't know I had a baby 3mo ago (at-will state, already lost one opportunity once they found out I recently had a baby... silly men), but it's also a woman-owned business so I'm not too terribly concerned about telling them. I do have my setup optimized for discretion though just in case, although it is a dang shame that's our reality as moms today.

  • I agree with the person who said this is illegal.

Doubly so because it costs $20 and less than 30 minutes of someone's time to install some frosted window vinyl, or whatever level of window obstruction feels adequate to you.

They gave us a recliner in the pumping room. Which seems nice, but also, gravity and liquids don't work that way. And there was no desk, so I couldn't work and pump. I usually just used the counter. Also the fridge in there had the world's loudest compressor.
