• Why do I suspect that if they really were having that much of a dig around in your purse and insisting you take it back to the car that you might already have been showing signs of being half in the bag? Because generally speaking people who present as totally sober who might just sneak some small liquor thing in tend to not even get noticed. The reality that they went for you more the once says you weren't no so subtle or sober I'm guessing. I'm also guessing this is for a movie theatre as well so it's even more of a bad idea for a possibly drunk person or planning to get drunk asap person to be in a dark movie theatre full of people. Because drunk people tend to get loud, distracting, move around a lot or bother others and nobody paid money to see a movie to listen to your antics Karen.

Now maybe I'm totally wrong and truly the staff was just being dicks. It can happen. But I don't know sounds suspicious that they really seem focused on her and she's acting so shocked they were looking for alcohol. Well don't worry staff I'm pretty that liquor was already inside her body this point from the sounds of it. Also kinda scary that she drove there if she was indeed showing signs of being drunk to the point that the staff noticed she was off and wanted to check her purse or ask her questions.

Seems like they may have still been tipsy writing this 😭

Yeah… the fact that OOP is so certain that they were looking for alcohol (seemingly without them saying it) seems like a bit of a tell here

Honestly, I'm wondering how the manager got involved in this in the first place. It feels like she's leaving a lot out.

  • New flair: I don’t think so skooter…

    Whatever the fuck that means

I think it’s a Ron White bit, which would match up nicely with all the alcohol in this persons purse

  • "They were looking for ALCOHOL"...... Well, did you have alcohol in there? Or did you leave that in car?

  • I've snuck nips into the theater before and never been noticed, mainly because I don't get drunk before hand

Same. But I ended up having to pee like a lot. It was a bad idea that I only repeated for The Last Skywalker because booze was the only thing saving my sanity. That and watching the two guys a row ahead of me do full on wtf motions with their bodies like all during the movie. Using that as a drinking game was a terrible idea that I would repeat for any movie that terrible.

You just gotta not break the seal man

Dude my bladder was screaming already I was gonna pee my pants!

  • Walmart can fuck all the way off wanting to check receipts. Would be reason enough to not shop there if I didn't already not shop there.

My Mum went Walmart shopping and bought the big container of white vinegar through self-check. Loss prevention stopped her and said she didn't pay for her "water". She offered them a sip.

Well it is, in fact, illegal. And they have lost several lawsuits over it. Only membership stores can do that.

Really!? I just got into an argument with the receipt nazi at my wal mart. She was laser focused on me the entire time I was paying for my one item and tried to step in front of me as I was leaving. Meanwhile 6 other customers with full carts were leaving all around us.

I told her no and tried to keep walking. She kept stepping in front of me and tried to grab my arm. I told her I’d call the police if she even thought about touching me. Then kept walking out. She was yelling after me all the way that by law I had to show my receipt. It was wild. If I hadn’t been in a hurry I’d have gone to customer service.

I’ll take things that never happened for $100 Alex.

The lady that makes minimum wage at Walmart tried to grab you?

Yes. She put her hand on my arm as I was walking around her. She pulled herself back right away but doesn’t change the fact that she touched me.

i really get irrationally irritated by the receipt checking thing put that person on a register

Omg every time I think that, why not have them work a register so I don't have to use self check out and absolutely you are not checking my receipt when you stood there basically watching me check out.

I just smile and walk on by, they have to right to stop me.

I just repeat "in this state it is only legal to stop me if you have reasonable proof I've committed a crime, and since you don't, I'm going to keep waking"

That's if the no thank you doesn't work, if they try and stop me, but it's not happened in years. We have a store called nps which is all discounted items places were ready to throw out, and it's not membership based. They always have a huge line to get it because people load their carts up worse than Costco, there's no self checkout so no way to steal something between the cashier and the door and they still make everyone with 1000 items still stop and get their receipt checked. The few times I ever shopped there I had to force myself out the door repeating what I said above.

Finally I just went to the store manager and said look, next time someone physically blocks me (after showing the state laws to him on my phone) I will call the cops and you'll have a lawsuit. I'm not going to be inconvenienced for your lame loss prevention rules, especially with the insane lines.

And you know what? They actually stopped blocking people, the few times after that I went I just said no thank you and kept walking :)

Luckily they never block people at the ones I go to but I have had a guy look to my husband after I smiled real big and said no thanks. Hubs just shrugged and kept walking lol

    That's awesome lol

    Me, smiling “no thank you!”🙏

Yeah, I understand my privilege, since they usually just put a highlighter line on my receipt or wave me through if I only have a couple of items.

Funny thing is that I don’t really care either way, getting worked up because the greeter takes an extra 15 seconds out of my day because they are doing what their boss told them is VERY VERY far down my fucks given o meter.

    Not irrational

I feel like that statement is just as legitimate if you end it at "Walmart can fuck all the way off". They are so full of scummy business practices.

Well sure(perhaps amended to the Walton family can fuck all the way off) but that's why I already don't shop there.

It’s a location thing, I’ve never seen Walmart check receipts.

I do not shop there, my girlfriend occasionally does and they definitely check at the one closest to me.

I always just tell them "no thanks" and keep on walking!

My Walmart hasn’t had a door greeter or receipt checker since COVID.  Are they back in other stores?

The PNW has them in a lot of cities - Walmart and Fred Meyer.

I just do the “no thanks” and walk out thing. Only one guy at Fred Meyer has gotten snarky with me.

Mine does but only for expensive purchases.

PSA Walmart may fire the greeter if you complain about them checking receipts which is their job and that's why the "nice" ones who don't rotate out all the time :)

Literally, just put your items in the bag. They only check if something is out of a bag. Aldo, stop encouraging people to steal. Because, no, it's not poor single mothers. I've seen people try to steal make up, chocolate fir girlfriends. Someone tried hiding steak under the disabled child's seat.

  • Want to check my bag?  Get a warrant.

  • I'll never understand why some people get upset over having their receipt checked

    1. Those checkers are not actually reading your entire receipt and checking your cart they just mark jt with a highlighter IF that.

    2. There are cameras. If you have stolen dodging the check does all of nothing

Because its illegal and slows down an already slow process. They have cameras, they should use them

It’s perfectly legal. You can legally refuse to show them, but you face being banned.

Edit: Mr. Chemboy doesn’t like facts, I see. So much so, he has to use a straw man fallacy, on a separate comment of mine, in an poor attempt to get that ‘Gotcha’ moment.

Not sure where you are located, but in the US, unless you have signed a membership agreement, you can be asked to show your receipt but you can't be detained for just for refusing. And I've never seen a verified case of Walmart banning someone for that, but feel free to prove me wrong.

Stores CAN detain you for possible shoplifting, but they must have reasonable suspicion. Without that reasonable suspicion, it's unlawful detention and opens them to liability.

People just want to be upset to be upset.

It always makes me think you stole/just have something to hide. I don’t have anything to hide, so I show my receipt. They’re only looking for certain items anyway, they stop certain people with certain items in their cart. It reminds me of the old people that bitch about self-checkout because “I wAs’Nt TrAiNeD aNd I dOn’T wOrK hErE!” Get with the times, old man.

And you just let cops in without a warrant, right?

    Nothing to hide
