Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) is considering running for Lummis’ seat and could announce her candidacy next month, said two people familiar with the plans who were granted anonymity because it was not yet public.
Lummis, sometimes dubbed the “Crypto Queen,” has been a prominent ally of the industry during her time in the upper chamber. She has played a key role in crafting industry-friendly digital assets legislation during this Congress.
Lummis, 71, was one of the lead GOP negotiators on a bipartisan crypto bill dealing with so-called stablecoins that became law in July. And she is in the middle of ongoing talks in the Senate over a much larger crypto regulatory bill that the industry has pushed for for years.
The bipartisan crypto bill negotiations have been tumultuous at times. Lummis said this week, after a committee vote was punted to 2026, that the process has been “exhausting.”
