It really all depends on the American consumer. If there is a sustained boycott of the network and its ratings fall, then CBS will fall and Weiss will find herself a rather obvious fallgirl. If Americans are okay with lies that placate their egos and state media, Weiss will be fine and CBS will trudge along.
It is hard to understate how much of Trump's fascist takeover has elite and public buy in. Despite this, we are fortunate to have resistance.
We’ll see as 60 minutes is the most popular news show in the country. So what happens there certainly matters.
Still, I am a bit skeptical and cynical. I am much more worried about a repeat of the LA Times and Washington Post whereby the owners just eat the loss. And it was/is a big loss. We are in a bit of uncharted territory because we’ve never seen a news outlet overpay for a media outlet like this before (150M’s to Bari Weiss).
The closest comparison I can think of is Disney buying 538 & Nate Silver working at that company for a while. He never was given the power that Bari was given; nor the money. I don’t see her being displaced, at a minimum, until Ellison exhausts all options to acquire Warner Brothers; which could take 5 to 25 more months.
Elon Musk started the year off with a Nazi salute and is ending it with being closer to being a trillionaire despite 20-25% sales drops in every major country & byd surpassing it as the leading EV Company
What is happening to CBS News right now is the most dangerous and scary thing I’ve ever seen in media. Most right-wing media outlets are started by people who openly say that we need right-wing news, so they attract people who already have crazy beliefs and give them a place to be. CBS is taking a mainstream and middle of the road audience that has been conditioned to the fact that they are a news source that is to be trusted for their entire life and, overnight, turning it into what Fox News looked like before Bush (for those who don’t remember, the early days of Fox News did regularly have some straight news and allowed some weaker liberal voices), with a likely longer term plan to evolve it into a full blown right wing mouthpiece. But the people who’ve known them as a trusted source for their entire life, like most of us even? For those who aren’t paying close attention, they’ll start to think this evolution is just “mainstream” and “accurate news.”
They should quit if they have any journalistic integrity at all, because it's patently obvious that Weiss is there to carry water for Trump and the GOP.
that's the point they want them to quit so it will reduce any opposition to Weiss and install pro trump folks
