JD Vance is just an extremely off putting guy. Trump for his faults is capable of being a conman and enjoys the fame and attention. But Vance is unironically just a bitter 4chan/twitter nazi that Thiel dressed up and paraded as a politician. He lacks charisma, likeability, and clearly has disdain and discomfort for others. He's not as smart as he thinks he is but he views himself as special and unique and more clever than his MAGA peers. He's written an entire book about it.
Trump being ridiculous and awful in an over the top way can be seen unfortunately as entertainment to many.
Vance is not entertaining. Instead of being something you can't take your eyes off of like Trump he is something you feel stressed out just experiencing.
The vibe I always get with him is that he's a shlubby fat kid who was always a loser but then for political reasons he was allowed to hang out with the "cool kids" but on the condition that he insults and bullies other losers for them.
Every time he tries to talk shit and make jokes it just comes off so forced and pathetic. Like he's trying so hard to be cool. It reminds me of that scene in "Moonlight" where the main character's boyfriend is forced to pick a fight with him in front of all the other kids to save face.
As unappealing as Kirk was in general, he had way more charisma than Vance ever will. Compared to the balsa block of unpleasantness that is Vance, Kirk is like Obama.
There is a whole ecosystem of MAGA where self-serving smart people (or seemingly smart people) work backwards to justify the president's whims, people like Ben Shapiro, for example. It helps keep the neocons and normies on board. It grounds the president. How could he be as crazy as they say, when the hyper rational "facts don't care about your feelings" Ben Shapiro is defending him?
JD Vance was selected as VP for the same reason. He could go out there and debate Tim Walz and normies could watch that and see that smart, well spoken people with Ivy League educations can use big words to defend the presidents agenda. It makes it seem like things are as they always have been. I'm not defending an insane person. There are adults in that room. Just look at Ben. Look at JD.
But I don't see that having legs without President Trump. JD is (part of) the yin to his yang. He's part of the support structure. Politics is unfortunately less about ideas and policy, and more about brand and leadership. JD Vance does not have the gravitas to command that party. They've made a coalition of low propensity voters. President Trump gets them to the poles. JD Vance will not. He's in a support role. He's not a carry. As much as Erika or whoever else wants to make JD happen, he's not going to happen.

He’s straddling the rope between Carlson and Shapiro. Most of the other presidential contenders have picked a side
Fascist club meeting notes should not be in the national news.
We ended up with Trump in 2016 because people underestimated him, let’s not make the same mistake with this one.
We underestimated him, sure, but we also gave him lots of attention.
