Howdy everyone,

So it has come to my attention that a lot of posts that are at least a few months old, or even more than a year old, or even those posts that are brand new, but still get brigaded by Tankies is a massive, and I mean MASSIVE problem, and for many reasons.

You have of course you Mugabe, Stalin, Mao, North Korea, Castro, Che Guevara, Pinochet, and various other defenders of dictators and mass murderers that come in to this subreddit to brigade old posts to act in not only bad faith, but to also brigade the posts and often flag you posts for “self-harm” where you will get sent a redditcares message sometimes when literally the post is not talking about self harm at all, nor is it even related to self harm.

This has become a serious problem because the posts are not only inactive, but they will reply to your comments in chains or waves. It’s not only annoying, but also a massive violation of the subreddit rules. Before anyone says “Just Mute the Posts! That will surely fix it right?” No it will not, you could mute a post all you want, the problem is that they will keep coming back in waves, and they will reply to other users as well, and that’s a problem because not all of us have the posts muted for one, and secondly it is only going to allow brigading to further continue and be left unnoticed. Meaning that they will get away with it. You cannot let that happen, because if you do, more Tankies will keep brigading the subreddit, and then it will become way more common than people realize.

    This Post for example where I call out Che Guevara for being a mass murderer has had MULTIPLE brigades by sleeper Tankies, and it has gotten extremely problematic, and in some cases when they reply to old comments, they will often link overzealot’s video on him defending Che Guevara, and let me tell you this. Overzealots is not a credible source, and he downplays all of the heinous crimes that Che Guevara committed in his life.

    Another example is this post where I am calling out the disrespectful behavior of disrespecting US Veterans who served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Look, as much as I personally disagree with the Vietnam war, disrespecting our veterans who served and had a lot of trauma and PTSD, as well as those who were BRUTALLY TORTURED in the Hanoi Hilton is and always will be wrong. The fact that many Tankies will go to the lengths to defend the North Vietnamese by claiming that they were “resisting imperialism” is really infuriating. The South did not want to be a part of the North, yes I fucking hate Diem for his treatment of the Buddhist community, and yes I think he was a fucking ruthless dictator, and yes I think that the Mai Lai Massacre was disgusting! However, THAT DOES NOT JUSTIFY THE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY THAT THE NORTH VIETNAMESE DID TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH VIETNAM, AS WELL AS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HMONG PEOPLE.

    Mods u/Decoy-User and u/BrandosWorld4Life I know you two have probably had this happen to y’all before, and I know it’s extremely annoying. My personal suggestion would be to have the comments locked on every post after like 2 weeks to prevent further brigading of the subreddit. Yes I know that SLS will be screenshotting our subreddit and we unfortunately cannot stop that, however to prevent further brigading, it’s one that I personally believe would be the most effective.

  • You can report specific accounts for brigading and we'll ban them. If you find where brigades are being sparked or organized, we can also bring attention to it to the admins. You can report Reddit Cares messages for being done in bad faith.

    Otherwise, best advice is as always, don't feed the trolls. You don't need to engage with brigaders and expressing frustration at them is likely to encourage the behavior.
