Apologies if the answer is known, but I searched for answers and didn't see much. It's pretty much as stated above, duckstation and pcx2 work smooth as butter on my computer but parallel launcher stutters to the point of unplayability, so does desume. Here's my stats - not working with a powerful machine, but I don't see why nintendo 64 emulation should be difficult if PS2 emulation works. It's a Dell Latitude 5400, Intel Core 1.9 GHz processor, 32gb ram.

  • Emulation is complicated. The age of a system has no bearing on how easy it is emulate. A lot of times emulator developers put in speed hacks per game to get better performance. They are better optimized. The n64 has been known to be difficult to emulate and most emulators are using code that’s been ducktaped together over the years and is clunky. DS should be fine. But idk. Every emulator is more optimized than another. Even for the same system. Try drastic.

  • Because the emulated console's power doesn't have much to do with the emulation performance.

Parallel is a cycle accurate, low level emulator for a pretty complex console. The more complex the console, the harder it is to emulate it. If you want speed, you should look into Mupen or Project64

As for Desmume, that's another beast entirely. That emulator has always been hit or miss for me, and if you want speed there are another options like no$ds. I'd also suggest looking into MelonDS

  • N64 emulators have always been weird. And regards to the DS, try another emulator

  • Try MelonDS for DS.

    MelonDS is close to perfect.

  • I also have issue with ds emulator on my old laptop. Somehow ds is more laggy than ppsspp, like seriously?🫩

  • i used no$gba for DS emulation for a long while, then moved to melonds never used desmume
